Dieu du Ciel! Grande Noirceur

Dieu du Ciel! Grande Noirceur

The Grande Noirceur is an intensely black and dense beer with pronounced roasted flavours. The bitterness is very imposing but is balanced by a malty-caramel taste. The alcohol content is quite high, but its presence remains discrete in this beer.

ABV initially 8.5%, changed in late 2012 to 9%.

3.7 On tap in a flight @ The Hourglass Brewery in Longwood, FL. Jet black appearance. Not much carbonation with a flatter feel. Flavors of chocolate, light coffee, vanilla....some mild sweet/tartish fruit in the background. Not as complex as some of their other brews though. Didn't really stand out for an IPS...but solid beer nonetheless.
4.0 Stout impériale, on sent bien le côte sucré, mais c’est un tantinet trop amer pour mon gout. Probablement meilleur vieillie 1 ans. C’est bon, mais pas surprenant pour du DDC.
3.6 Dark, almost opaque brown colour, creamy brownish head and lace. Aroma has roastyness, dark chocolate and coffee. Medium-bodied. Roasted malty with bitter aftertaste. Dark chocolate and licorice in the flavour. Strong hoppy impy.
3.2 0,341l bottle at home from Beerlovers Vienna. BB 10/2019 (according to sticker of the importer). black color, small dark coffee colored head. smells of soy sauce, earthy, spices, leathery, peppery, tobacco, hints of cocoa. nice smell. full body, soft carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes of heavy soy sauce, spices, peppery, earthy, herbal, leathery, rubbery, light veggies. finishes rather bitter with notes of rubber, leather and some soy sauce notes. hmm, judgding by the high ratings, this is very underwhelming. Either this is not fresh anymore (although I only bought it two weeks ago), or the importer f*cked it. anyway, not a fan.
3.8 330 ml bottle. Pours a deep, dark coffee brown, near black, with a tan head that settles into a thin ring and island of film, leaving a few spots of lace in the glass. Notes of dark chocolate, roasted malts, tobacco, earth, burnt sugars, and a bit of rubber. Medium-full bodied, with modest carbonation and a bitter, roasty, earthy mouthfeel. It’s several years old but drinks nicely.
3.9 Black with quick fading head. Aroma and flavour have a lot of heavily roasted malts. A little bit of smoke and dark chocolate. Perhaps a savoury element too.
3.8 Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from Andover Classic Wines. Appearance is opaque black used motor oil with nice sparkle at edges of the glass, some chunky floaties, ring of brown head with fair retention and no lacing. Aroma is dark fruit, alcohol (almost rum quality), rich, roasted malt, dark chocolate. Taste is rich, bittersweet roasted malt, dark fruit. Palate is medium-to-full bodied with thick, smooth texture, average carbonation and dry, mostly bitter roasted finish. Overall, not complex but strong and rich roasted quality and dark fruit.
4.8 I really like Imperial Stouts.
4.0 Black, extra dark head. aroma: burned bread, chocolate, dry fruits, alcohol, licorice. full body, medium sweetness, medium to high bitterness. flavour also dominated by bread notes (burnt crust of bread), some piny, smoky notes, overall bit to bitter
4.1 Bottle at home, köszi Kini! Pours jet black wit brown head. It’s coffee, roasted notes, cocoa powder, some fruits all over with a touch of booze. Medium to heavy bodied with average to soft carbo. An oldschool RIS, and quite good at that.
3.9 Flaska från SB. Bf 18-11-03. Svart vätska med litet kakifärgat skum. Doft av mörk choklad, tobak och bränt bröd. Smaken följer doften, avslutas med en fin beska.
4.5 341 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet. ABV is 9%. Pitch black colour, moderate brown head. Aroma of roast malts, coffee and caramel, also some vinous notes. The flavour has a well balanced sweetness, notes of roast malts, coffee and dark bitter chocolate, a hint of caramel, also distinct bittering hops. Smooth and pleasant to drink. Excellent beer.
4.1 Inky black with a tan frothy head that dissipates quickly. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, smoke, and alcohol. Flavor is lightly sweet chocolate, heavily bitter and roasted. Alcohol presence is strong. Finish has a pepperiness to it. Strong and bold fantastic beer!
3.6 Poured from bottle thanks Brian dark black with a thick cocoa head. Aroma is roasted malt light ash tobacco chocolate. Taste follows aroma notes of caramel chocolate tobacco ash.

2.9 Agresywnie gorzki aż po kwaśność, mocno palony, popiołowy, niezbyt orzyjemny w ustach ris. Przehajp w ocenach.
3.8 Nitro sample at Bob's Bar. The beer pours flat black with some brown around the edges, and a medium creamy beige head that recedes gradually to a dense film. Small patches of lace. Roast malt, coffee and chocolate in the nose. Medium body with flavors of roasted coffee, bittersweet chocolate and caramel malt. The finish is creamy with an espresso and malt aftertaste. Pretty good overall.
3.8 On tap at E9. Pours black, thick tan head. Scent is roasted malts. Taste is coffee, booze. Good beer.
4.3 on tap @ au coin mousse pitch black with very solid, long lasting small layer of mousse. like nitro aroma is true soy sauce the fermentation component to it, strong malt taste is coffee and malts, the thick foam transports alot of aroma mouthfeel is slick, milkshake like, very very smooth low to medium syrupy tastes very fresh like it was kegged an hour ago close to no bitterness
4.1 Bottle from State Line, marked as bottled on 2016-10-24, so one for the age test! And a screw-top! Nose roasty, chocolaty, bitterness, earth, realty attractive in its brutality. Red berry and grape when in the glass. Pour murky dark brown but quickly collects to straight pitch with a dark tan head. Taste sweet in the espresso way, and there's a lot of that here, intense dark roast with coffee and a mildly astringent bitterness that lasts long into the aftertaste; also a very subtle flash of seaweed or fish food that I found charming. Medium minderal, heavy full body, no citrus, some cigarette smoke, plum, relatively mild / controlled alcohol with no heat or burn, certainly no fusels here. A little flabby muddle from the malt but at this age, like all other things in this beer, a modest amazement. Touch of cola, no soy, but man, back to that espresso! Very persuasive and still tastes fresh. The verdict: this is great even with age on it. [2018.08.29: 4.1]

3.9 Közepes, örökké tartó hab, fekete szín. Csokis, kávés, aszalt gyümölcsös illat. Kávés, csokis, kakaóporos ízek, halvány aszalt gyümölcsös beütéssel. Száraz, testes, közepesen szénsavas, erősen keserű, aminek zömét a pörkölés adja. Nem rossz, de túlságosan mintaszerű, mondhatnám keményvonalas, semmi izgalom.
3.7 Strong roasted notes, coffee, dark cocoa, black with a thin tan head, medium body, average carbonation, quite bitter and roasted...nice.
3.9 Aroma - pleasant roast Appearance - black body with a nice 2" khaki color head. That fades slowly. Good foamy lacing. Taste - nice roast, barley malt, slight coffee. Palate - medium body, smooth texture, average carbonation, and
