Dieu du Ciel! La Païenne

Dieu du Ciel! La Païenne

Paienne is a top-fermenting June straw blond coloured beer. It presents aromas of malt, fruits and hops. Its well-balanced flavours are dominated by malty and fresh cereals tastes, completed by a delicate bitterness. All of this makes the Paienne an inviting and thirst-quenching beer offering at the same time satisfying tastes and a generous body.

3.3 Bottle 341ml, a slightly cloudy golden beer with huge head and good retention. Nose is malty with honey touch, aroma is malty, toasted grain notes, grassy bitterness, earthy notes, apple notes, bot bad but bit simple from this excellent brewery. Easy drinkable, finish is on dry grain, light toasted caramel finish with good duration.
3.7 New England Bucket List Trip #146. Keg at St. Jerome. Pours a clear golden with a large frothy off-white head. Good head retention. Aroma of grainy malts, floral hops, dry citrus. The taste is tropical, stone fruit, caramel, bread, spice. Medium bodied, well balanced.
3.6 (bottle) clear yellow colour with a smalll off white head; aroma starts with stewed fruit, then roast; balanced flavour with a long, light bitter finish; slightly creamy palate; very nice interpretation of this generally unexciting style
2.7 341ml bottle. Gold with a thin foamy white head. Slight haze. Flavors are crisp cereals, dough, honey, butter, orange and cooked vegetables with herbal and fruity notes. Medium to full body, moderate carbonation, smooth texture. Nothing to see here, move along.
2.9 Pours an ultra clear golden with a small white head that fades fast and doesn’t leave any lacing. Nose is of pils and hay, not bad but not that expressive. Taste is of weird sugar, not quite caramel but not good and clean cereals either. A little fruity and herbaceous. Bitterness level is moderate but really appreciated. Body is medium, carbonation medium-high and mouthfeel slightly oily. Overall an OK blond ale I guess but a weak DDC to me. Of course this is kind of the point with these beers, a gateway beer for some maybe?
3.2 This is probably the "worst" beer I’ve had from Dieu du Ciel. There’s definitely nothing remarkable about, but it does have more character than the average blond ale. (Side note: why do craft breweries even bother making simple blond ales and lagers with generic taste profiles? Am I the only one who ignores these offerings almost entirely, in favour of the cool hop bombs and funky hybrids and barrel aged brews?) ANYHOO, the pour is typical golden, the nose is typical wheat and spicy bread dough, though there’s also some fruity sweetness and a sort of barnyard funk. Taste follows the nose, with a boomerang finish that leaves sweet and comes back crisp and dry. Overall it’s pretty darn good for a plebeian beer.
3.5 Bottle from metro supermarket. A clear gold with a foamy white head - it looks like a perfect blond ale. Great bready sweet malt aroma with a soft  fruitiness. Bready fruity esters, a bit of caramel and a crisp bitter finish. A great entry level to Dieu du Ciel for non-craft drinkers.
3.0 Malty and yeasty aroma, not much in the way of hops. Smells sweet. Hazy yellow, short lived head. Taste is a bit more exciting but not overly so, upfront sweet malt and belgian yeast, finishes with some grassy hops. Light/medium bodied and average carbonation. Nothing special, surprising from this great brewery.
3.4 Pours a light yellow with some head and low retention. Aroma is the best part, giving off hints of maltyness, some hop bitterness and a some fruits. Body is soft and on the malty side with some sourness at the back and sweetness at the front. Aftertaste is a bit drier and ends quite quickly. Quite a light beer, but definitely enjoyable and with it’s own twist.
3.7 Pours a medium golden color with a finger of white foam. Nose is grainy, sweet malt, biscuit a touch of honey. The palate is clean with a nice balance of bitter and sweet with some layers of earthy honey, bready malts and traces of spicy yeast. Kind of a belgian inspired pilsner. Refreshing.
3.3 From bottle. Clear golden. Medium white head. Sweet pastery-like malt aroma. Taste is mellow caramel malty sweetness with a touch of hoppy bitterness in the end. Good refreshing beer!
3.2 Bottle, orange pour, creamy head, malty aroma, taste is bitter, wheaty, interesting for sure.
2.7 least drinkable beer tried @ dieu du ciel. biscuity dough malts. subtle herbal wet hay hop. but weird plastic presence. touch too sweet. not very drinkable.
2.6 12 oz. bottle. Color is well, blonde. No head or lacing. Nose is pale malt and old wheat. Flavor has grassy wheat, citrus and light citrus. Light body with a oily/ slick feel on the tongue. A bit to much acidic tones. The bottle was notched 7/2013 so, yes it past it’s prime. The style is rather simplistic itself. Decent for the style.
3.1 Poured from a bottle. Clear golden color, small white fizzy head. Slight sour grain aroma. Smooth bread like flavor with a real clean finish.
3.0 Pours bright clear gold into an English pint. Bright white head with medium retention recedes to sicken surface. Sour malt aromas. Sweet and sour caramel upfront turning to mildly bitter earth in the dry lasting finish.
2.8 Draft at DdC with Streets, Ricky, Andrew, PJ and Brendan. Pours a light golden body with white lacing. Aroma is yeast, spice and light malt. Mouthfeel is medium to light with notes of spice, yeast, light bitterness, malt, cereal and spice. Eh, kind of bland overall.
3.2 Bottle shared with AJ in NH. Cheers. Pours clearish gold with a creamy white head. The aroma gives off aged white bread and straw. Medium sweet flavor with sugary white bread, dough, cereal. Light to medium bodied with average, massaging carbonation. Sweet finish with some bitter hay, slight oxidation, dry white bread. So so.
3.7 341ml bottle. Slightly hazy golden body, medium to small white head with good retention and some lacing. In the nose a touch of sourness under the layer of sweet malt, peaches and apricots, floral hops. Taste is spicy: bitter herbal hops, lemon zest, peppercorn, peaches, toasted rye bread, honey. Enjoyable.
2.7 Hazy yellow 2 finger fluffy head Bitter and bready nose Pretty chewy and bland. Very bitter. Some oranges and honey. Cloves? But tastes pretty old and stale
3.1 341ml bottle. Pours a cloudy, pale yellow colour with a half finger head that fades to a film fast. Aroma is a mild with a touch of yeast. Taste is slightly bitter. Faint hops, citrus Low to medium body. Texture is a bit watery. Medium carbonation. Short, slightly bitter, dry finish. Not horrible but wouldn’t be my first choice. There is just too many better choices out there.
