4.1 Poured from the tap (2019 vintage). Pitch black with small tan head. Lighter coffee notes with lots of wood and alcohol with mild bourbon undertones. Very woody, very good.
4.3 A black beer, a head is medium and brown. Aroma has roastiness, lots of coffee, some chocolate, liquorice and sweetness of lactose, also some dry barrel. Taste has balanced roastiness, lots of coffee and sweetness, still nice, some chocolate, strenght of barrel in the background. The end is long, quite strong bitterness drying the taste, also some vanilla. Full bodied, velvety smooth palate. Great and enjoyable beer, strong coffee is balanced with other nuancees, the barreling is mild but it works nicely.
4.3 341ml bottle. Pours an opaque black with a small, creamy, long lasting, light brown head that laces. Sweet aroma of roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, bourbon, vanilla and oak. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, caramel, brown sugar, dark chocolate, bitter coffee, dates, vanilla and oak in a bourbon warming finish. Full body with a creamy, smooth, almost chewy, oily texture and soft carbonation. The BBA version added complexity to an already incredible beer. Excellent, a world class Impy.
4.6 Black pour with a long lasting dark brown head. Smells and tastes great, a bit of smokiness on the nose, flavour is sweet rich malts, caramel, cream, and coffee. The creamy flavour and texture is what really makes this one special. It is a soft beer, very smooth and without much heat. Just wonderful.
4.7 One of a number of variations on the Pêché Mortel theme by this leading Canadian craft brewer, vintage bottle of several years old; huge thanks to tderoeck for sharing, this one was high on my list. Mocha-beige, mousy, open head but with a waferthin beige ‘veile’ in the middle, black robe with hazy burgundy edges. Aroma of hazelnut purée, toffee, sweet bourbon, clear coffee powder (still relatively fragrant after years of aging), old oak wood, almond, bayleaf, old dusty cinnamon, caramel, brown rum, vanilla beans, treacle, solventy note of fresh paint. Sweet, dense onset with a light sourish edge, notes of raisins, dates and pear, softly carbonated, deep, full, viscous body. Massive, layered malt body, toffee, chocolate, roasted peanuts and indeed – towards the end – a lot of coffee, both aromatic (as in real coffee) and roasty-bitter from the beer’s malt bill itself, both of which work perfectly together (as in the regular version). Beautifully bittersweet ending with ornamental vanilla-like oak woodiness and indeed warming, sweet bourbon galore with a spicy effect, but the opulent, chocolatey, bittersweet maltiness prevails till the very last drop. Clearly the mistake to drown a beautiful beer in a vat of hot booziness has not been made here: the bourbon barrel aging has been applied with great care, relative subtlety and utmost beauty. A masterpiece, many barrel aged ‘impies’ can learn from this one.
4.1 Keg at the Beavertown Extravaganza, day one, 08/09/17. A jet black coloured pour with a fading tan head. Aroma is spicy coffee beans, cascara, earthy roast, Flavour is composed of sticky brown sugars, cinamon, creeme caramel, soft coffee, roast. Palate is sreamy, spicy oak, rounded. Very good.
4.0 Draught at Outro Lado. Black coloured with a medium sized beige head. Roasted aroma of coffee and chocolate. Roasted flavour of caramel and chocolate with notes of coffee and hops. Roasted finish.
4.3 At Muted Horn, bourbon 2018. Dark chocolate coffee bean aroma. Black, brown head. Dry chocolate, well integrated bourbon barrel, dry praline as a result, a bit smoke and rust, sweet spiced stout, chocolate, coffee, well integrated barrel notes. Medium full dry body, sparkly. Very pleasant.
4.1 Péché Day 2018 version. Almost black with medium beige creamy head. Very nice coffee aroma. Mild bitterness with coffee notes, lasting bitter aftertaste. Some touch of whiskey notes.
3.8 Pours black with creamy head. Beautiful aroma od dark chocolate and espresso, followed by dark fruit. Taste: very smooth, a lot of dark chocolate and espresso, followed by vanilla from the barrel.
4.1 Thanks Virby44 for the bottle! Taster showing dark brown with sparse latte colored foam. The nose shows moderately intense notes of cappuccino and caramel throughout. The palate is well carbonated and medium bodied with a moderate alcoholic spiciness. Strong dark chocolate and espresso forwardness with clean oak and bourbon background followed by a balanced coffee bitterness with light notes of adzuki.
2.5 Wednesday, August 28, 2019. On tap, 12.5cL. 9.5%. @bar "Le Grincheux", Strasbourg (67), FR. A sparkling black-brown beer with a nice oily-look beige creamy head ; good retention and lacing ! Beautiful! Coffee+, toast+ (burnt!?), light bourbon, woody character, black chocolate, light sugar, light water. Medium round sweet, light warming, lack of wingspan !!??, light spicy, light bitter note. Fat thin body, thin oily texture, flat, toasted coffee bourbon finish. Overall, disappointing ! At least, that's coherent with what I remember of the classic "Péché Mortel". Still a mystery... Moreover, I smelt bad flavors near the tram while tasting this beer at the bar.
4.0 Vycap. Cierna farba, nahnedla pena. Vona prazene slady, kakao, kava, whiskey. Chut prazene slady, suchost kakao, rumove pralinky, cokolada, a slivky.
4.4 Pitch black colour with small brown head, strong aroma of coffee, taste is unbelievable, coffee, chocolate, rather bitter, quite sweet, stout all around. Great
4.1 Tap at Unorthodox. Full bodied, though not overwhelming, moderate carbonation. ABV hidden very well, though present with a pleasant bit of warmth. Loads of big malty character, chocolate, caramel, rather soft roast. Clean bourbon and coconutty woodiness. Rich, intense, quite good.
4.2 2017 version. Black body with a small, quite stable brown head. Aroma is espresso, Bourbon, oak, vanille. Taste is bourbon again, vanille, wood, chocolate and coffee liquor. Dry alcoholic and coffeish finish. Full body, soft carbonation, oily texture.
3.9 Tap. Pours black. Roasted, coffee, dark chocolate, fruity, oak. Full bodied. Roasted after taste.

Aroma: lots of coffee, caramel, chocolate. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: lots of alcohol, coffee, dark chocolate, bitter hops, very roasted, more alcohol, slightly sweet. 4.1 Bottle, shared at Blabaer line (thanks kind stranger). Pours dark brown-black. Aroma and flavor are sweet and bitter, roast, malt coffee, bourbon. Overall: great.
Smooth, slightly roasty and sweetish with some bourbon, vanilla, toffee and oak, hints of syrup. Pretty nice.
4.0 Draft pour at GB’s bottle shop. Pours pitch black in color and topped by a small tan colored head of foam that fades away quickly to a thin film and leave some some patches of lace on the glass. The aroma shows notes of dry, dark and bitter chocolate, toasted caramel, and darkly roasted malts with hints of bourbon oak and vanilla. The flavor follows suit with notes of dark chocolate, toasted caramel, and dark roasted malts to go with some bourbon and oak laden vanilla with a nice warming from the alcohol. There is some nice balancing bitterness on the back end. Medium bodied and smooth with subtle carbonation that leads to a dark chocolate, caramel, bourbon oak, and boozy warming finish with some lingering notes of vanilla long after the finish. Solid barrel aged stout but doesn’t really hold up to some of the best ones out there. Really glad I got to try this though as this one has eluded me for awhile.
4.4 Draft at the Avenue Pub in New Orleans while on a trip back to my native Louisiana to visit family. POURS pitch black with a thin tan head. AROMA of ashy malts, deep dark chocolate, wet oak barrel, vanilla, and boozy sweet bourbon. FLAVOR of dark chocolate brownies, sweet smooth oaky bourbon, thick caramel, dark coffee, and creamy vanilla. Smooth in the finish with some nice sweetish notes. The ABV is really concealed. So happy to stumble upon the BBA version of this classic (I first reviewed it here nine years ago) while in NOLA. (403, 1139)
