2.7Pours a clear copper colour with a small white head. Nose is malty, nutty and a hint of smoke. Taste is a little thin, but easy to drink. Lighter in the mouthfeel with a soft carmel undertone."
3.0Pours medium brown with a 2 finger light beige head that has o.k. retention, fading to a skim and ring after a few minutes. Aroma is lightly toasted grain, caramel, crusty white bread, a hint of molasses and some nutty notes. Flavor is caramel, toast, dense wheat bread, roasted nuts and more grain for the finish. Palate is thin and sweet with a finish that is slightly more dry and crisp.
2.9Pours a medium dark amber that is quite a bit clear with a minimal head... Aroma is sweet with big notes of bread... The flavor is a subtle touch of fruit with sweet notes and the bread from the aroma.... Medium to medium thin bodied with a lingering sweet finish... Quite a solid dunkel, especially for the price, depending on the price, this is a steal...
3.0On tap at Beerfest (New Orleans, LA). Pours a hazy dark brown color with a thin off-white head. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of spice, nuts, yeast, bread some ripe fruit. Flavor is sweet and malty with similar notes of bread, yeast, sour ripe fruit, some hints of cherry. Medium body with a sour malt finish.
2.7dark amber brown with small tan head. caramel aroma and flavor with a bit of smoke and creamy malts. thin, lowish alc. content. decent.
2.0Draft at the Wurstfest. Glad I stayed with the HoffB and the HaSC before I had this one. a light bodied semi watery brew with seemingly added caramel coloring and caramel candy taste. Both in taste and color the dark fails. Watery body with a metallic and mercifully quick finish. Back to the HB for me for the rest of the evening. Head was a nice light beige. Blah
3.012 ounce bottle purchased at World Market Pembroke Pines, FL for $1.99 Not bad.
2.9Pours dark red with minimal lacing. Aroma is of mild caramel and dark fruit. Flavor is creamy sweet, sort of like a milk-chocolate caramel blend with a smooth finish. Mediocre; flavorful but lacking complexity.
2.4poured a deep brown with a thin head. Upon tasting, it was entirely too sweet for my taste. Overpowering malt flavor and sugur sweetness. Not terrible, but not great either.
2.9Bottle. Pours an almost cola brown, which was an ironic bit of foreshadowing, with a thin white head. Aroma of very sweet malt, and little else. The slight malt taste carries over to the mouth where it is joined with a good deal more soda like sweetness and an incredibly thin watery body. Finish is a bit of a letdown too, and features a slight metallic tang.
3.5Pours a nice brown. Flavor of nuts, caramel and malts. Light body. Surprisingly flavorful without strong roasted notes.
3.9Nice and flavorful, fairly sweet beer. Dark and malty with a pleasant aftertaste.
3.4Draught at the Flying Saucer, dark and malty with red brown color. Small head, aroma was sweet , taste was zesty but left something missing.
2.9(Bottle). Sweet malty aroma, some hay. Dark reddish brown body, small light tan head. Flavor is sweet, sugary caramel. A bit too sweet.
2.7Poured a brownc olor with an off white head. Aroama was caramelly and some chocolate. Flavor was very watery and some caramel, thats about the only thing that stands out
3.6This is a nice dunkel. Dark, medium brown, it has a smallish off-white head steadily shrinking to a wispy top. The smell is sweet brown bread, toast, leaves, hay, hint of pine. The taste is dryish with toasted crust, leaves, hints of cola and root beer, a bit zesty, clean, very pleasant, but still a little on the bland side, yet very drinkable.
3.311-Sep-08(12-oz bottle) This is a bottle I’ve had in the fridge for literally a year or more, just never got around to opening it, so these notes are just for the sake of observation, and the actual numbers won’t be changed. If my previous notes are to be trusted, there seems to be a lot more chocolate in the flavor now, especially in the finish which is actually quite chocolaty and mildly earthy. The malts are mildly toasty, slightly roasty, only lightly sweet, and show no real signs of caramel. The nose is toasty and grainy with modest signs of oxidation. Body is medium. The moderate carbonation is soft on the palate. Light-brown in color with excellent clarity, and capped by over half an inch of light-tan head that recedes to a wide ring after several minutes. I can’t say that this beer is better now, although the development of chocolate is interesting, but really, for a style that should be consumed fairly quickly, I think this has held up remarkably well.
09-Nov-05(12-oz bottle: Holiday Wine Cellar in Escondido, CA) Though this isn’t a great example, I generally love the dark malty beers from Germany. Lots of worty malt flavor, caramely, mildly sweet, perhaps a little nutty, and with a seemingly very mild contribution from hops. The malt flavor is definitely tasty, but the flavor lacks punch and disappears too quickly in the short-lived finish. And the thin body is the main problem with this beer, though carbonation is nice and it’s pretty easy on the palate. Malty nose that smells malty like wort but isn’t especially aromatic. Ruddy brown and fully clear, the beer is capped by an inch-tall tan head that gradually settles to a wide ring. Despite the flaws, I still find this to be a pretty enjoyable beer. (6, 3, 7, 3, 14 = 3.3)
2.5dark pour with no head...aroma of caramel, nothing more..flavor is replicating that with an added raison and faint hops..
3.3Bottle best i’ve had from this company. Pours a light brown body with some malty caramel aromas. A little like a bock but more like a pils. Not bad for shop rite.
3.4Draught at Schnitzelhaus Tampa. Cola brown body with a smallish white head. Dissipates quickly and leaves minimal lacing. Nose of nutty bread, caramel, molasses, chocolate and malt. Flavor profile carries over all of that, with the focus on the malts and nutty notes. Pretty damn tasty beer, actually, and quite a bit underrated in my books. Medium bodied, could use a little more heft but probably pretty true to style. Finish is medium-long, nuts, caramel and sweet malts play out. Surprising.
4.0A fairly rich aroma with a bit of molasses. Quite light and easy, but has a good sweeness in the finish, maybe a hint of chocolate. Good stuff.
2.8Bottle. Pours a brown with a frothy head and aromas of sweet malt and grain dust. Flavor is toffee and sweet malt with touches of dark fruit, but sits short on complexity.
3.0Pours dark red/brown with a tan head. Aroma of sweet caramel and malt. Taste of caramel, fruit, and malt. Finish is smooth. Body is medium and carbonation is light.
3.6Eyes: Good dark red color! the head is great in the first look.
Nouse: good cereal aroma is present with a little touch of caramel and coffe.
Mouse: Bitttter, with full body, great flavor a good german dunkel!
3.2Very deliscious, it was a little sweet and heavy. I like the hoppy flavour and the brown colour. A little alcoholic.
3.3bottle.aroma-typical green bottle smell, kind of skunky and not much else.dark red color and little head. Nice smooth drinker. Raisin, caramel and some malty hops.Nothing outstanding but a very good drinker.
2.6Pours a coca-cola brown with a coca-cola head. Aroma light, a little malty, but not much there. Hint of hops. Flavor is mostly malts. Caramel and Coffee notes, generally. Slight hoppiness but just enough to catch a hint of. Overall, Not bad, but nothing special.
3.5Bottle, thanks afire! Dark amber pour thin head not much lacing. Thin carbonation. Some caramel and malts in the aroma. Roast and slight flavor of fruity spice on the pallet. Very nice drinker, a little thin towards the end but still enjoyed it and reasonably priced!
3.5bottle. pours a dark amber color with a thin tan head. smells of caramel and dough, slightly skunky. nice smooth taste of caramel and dark fruits, leaving behind a raisin finish. very easy drinking, robust flavor yet light on the tongue. nice dunkel with a nice price.
3.7(GERMANY) There is a reddish brown color with a med-foamy tan head. The aroma is of brown sugar / toffee. The flavor has a silky smooth caramel taste with med - carbonation. This is a very delicious dunkel, and it did not take me very long to put this one down !!!! :)
