Djævlebryg Gudeløs

Djævlebryg Gudeløs

Editor’s note: Previously brewed by Djævlebryg at Brøckhouse, Hillerød, Denmark.

Danish: Bryggeriet Djævlebryg and the Danish Atheist Society have entered into an unholy alliance and the result is "Godless": This first batch is a somehow accessible imperial stout with its 8.9% abv. It offers burnt notes from the malt mingled with sweet nuances and a warming depth from the alcohol. This brew is primarly aimed at members of the Atheist Society, but it will also be available in selected shops and bars. In these times, when companies are expected to show social responsibility, we in the brewery have decided to follow suit: For each bottle or draft sold we donate 1 Danish Krone to the Danish Atheist Society.

3.9 Pours thick, very dark brown, with a creamy, tan head. Aroma has dark sugar, dried fruit and licorice. Flavour has more licorice, raisins. Sweetness and bitterness well balanced. Finish is sticky and bitter with light alcohol burn.
4.1 Bottle from systembolaget. Smell is sweet and strong with coffee and chocolates. It pours black with a rich brown head. Taste is both sharp and deep. A deep taste of coffee, chocolates and roasted malts with a subtle oakiness and a smokey finish. Palate is a bit thin. expecting more from this kind of beer. The palate is really the only disapointing thinh about the beer. An overall really solid beer.

4.0 Bottle. Pours black with a medium sized tan head. Aroma is coffee, licorice, soy. Taste is medium sweet with a roasted coffee bitterness and a salty soy and licorice background. Medium/full bodied with an average carbonation.

4.1 @ Havregatan.
3.2 Aroma of caramel & fudge. Black with brown head. The taste is vinous, liquorice sweet & a bit of sourness. Medium body, thin texture & soft carbonation.
4.7 Taste at beer and whisky festival gothenburg. Really nice nose and Palate. This is a typical imperial except that it is really good! This one I Will definetly ger My hands on. One of the vetter i've had. Only way this could have been vetter is with bourbon barrel storage. All the different tastes are very prominent. Mouthfeel is very nice!
3.4 Keg at the City Pub, Goteborg, 21/03/14. Light black with a good sized tan covering that retains well. Nose is roast malt, toffee fudge, chocolate, light spice, dark malt, liqourice. Taste comprises much the same with a trace of booze flowing through it. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Ok impy but lacks a little depth.
3.7 Tap at the City Pub, Gothenburg. Poured a dark mahogany with a thin tan head. The aroma is creamy caramel roasted malt. The flavour is medium bitter with a slightly watery hop malt coffee peaty palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Nice and chewy with lots of flavour.
4.2 For a godless beer, it's pretty heavenly. Pours rich dark brown with a creamy tan head. Aroma is sweet dark fruits and bitter chocolate. Flavor follows. Lots and lots of chocolate. Fairly sweet. Full bodied and creamy. A gift from God despite the name.
4.2 Smells like chocolate and ice. Big brown aroma. Bitter chocolate with an alcohol bite. Clean but sharp sweet full body.
3.6 Backlog. Strong notes of coffee with some alcohol coming through. Burnt caramel an dark fruits.
Meget velbalanceret, god krop. LAng ristet bitter eftersmag. Appelsin-agtige noter.
3.8 330ml bottle @Lúpulo Feroz, Oviedo. 8-2-2014 In short: a robust Imp. Stout. Pours black with some very tan head. Some head retention and lacework. Coffee, liquor aromas.Oily texture, soft carbonation, medium body. Taste is roasty, coffee, some nuts, caramel. Well balanced and very enjoyable.

3.9 From a 50 cl bottle shared in Park City UT. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of dark cherries and licorice. Flavors of chocolate and dark fruits. Medium heavy bodied. Roasty, oily finish.
3.1 50 cl bottle from LCBO, served cool in a tulip glass. BB 04.04.13. App.: Deep brown-black with a decent tan head. Aroma: Quite fruity, tart and vinous, stewed berries, some chocolate, a bit of molasses, more as it warms, smells like strawberry jam. Palate: Medium-full body with elegant effervescence. Flav.: A bit darker than the nose...more chocolate and a little more molasses, still lots of berry-like fruitiness; somewhat sweet with decent bitterness and a long, chocolate-covered strawberry finish. Tasty enough. Not quite what I expected/wanted.
4.0 Bottle. Black with a brown thick creamy head. Aroma is dark chocolate, coffee, cacao, syrup, soya. Taste is sweet and roasty. Medium to full body, smooth mouthfeel, sweet finish.
3.2 Poured from bottle into pint glass. Pours dark brown with a thin tan head and yeast chunks on the bottom. Aroma is sweet with raisin aroma and roasted malt. Taste is very sweet, too sweet for me. Lots of raisin and a bit of licorice. Sticky mouthfeel, full body. I’m sure It’s great but it’s not my style. Way too malty and raisiny.
4.1 Bottle (Stronzo batch). Pours jetblack with a one-finger beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and vanilla. Taste is much like the aroma - very roasted with the chocolate and vanilla really coming through. Also fruity flavours coming out as the beer warms. Sweet and fullbodied, with low carbonation and a slightly bitter aftertaste. Not the best from the brewery, but pretty damn good anyway. :-)
4.1 12/13/2013. From bottle. Poured black with a creamy beige head. Licorice, chocolate, dark roasted malt aromas. Bitter flavors, rich and thick. Very good stout.
3.9 33 cl. bottle Pours jet black with a dense, lasting mocha head and nice lacing. Nose is vanilla, chocolate, burnt coffee - and a little sour!? Medium to full bodied, moderately carbonated with a long bitter/sour finish. Taste is rather dry with little to no sweetness. Dark chocolate, roasted malts, coal, peat. It’s not a "big" imperial stout, and for my taste it lacks a little of that Imp. stout high ABV deep sweetness, but it is rather well balanced.
4.1 Aroma: rich aroma malty mocha smell with hints of chocolate and licorice Taste: very very rich malty taste, great taste. roasty with some other tastes akin to the aroma finishAppearance: very dark body, thick light brown head
