Djævlebryg Son of Nekron

Djævlebryg Son of Nekron

Editor’s note: Formerly brewed by Djævlebryg at Brøckhouse, Hillerød, Denmark.

English: Son of Nekron is a top-fermented porter. We use peat smoked malt which gives the beer a distinct smoked character. The roasted malts and dark muscovado sugar turn Son of Nekron into an almost pitch-black beer and add touches of coffee, chocolate, and peat smoke. Son of Nekron goes very well with stews and heavier dishes.

2.9 Bottle (500 ml). Traded by SlovakSniper, thanks Patrick! Almost black with a small beige head and some lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, caramel, chocolate and a slight acidic presence. The taste begin with an acidic off-flavor along with roasted malt and slight caramel and chocolate notes. Mouthfeel is thin and watery. The bottle is BB 07-2012 so maybe this one is just too old.
3.4 Sample @ SBWF 12. Black colour with a brown head. Smokey coffee aroma. Flavour is burnt, malt, coffee.
4.3 Tap @ SBWF 2012. Aged for 5 years (2007 edition). Pitch black color. Small tan head appears. Chocolate, malts, roast, licorice, sweet notes in aroma. Chocolate, malts, roasted, coffee beans, hops, mild sweetness in flavor. Yeasty and bit dry ending. Wonderful beer.
3.6 Draught @ SBWF’12 Pours pitch black with a foamy light brown head. Aroma of roasty malts, chocolate, coffee and hops. Taste is roasty and smooth with hints of grain and chocolate. Finish is slightly roasty and smooth. Quite balanced stout.
3.3 500ml bottle from IPB. Best before 15/07/2012. Appearance : Deep dark mahogany with small foamy head. Minimal lacing. Aroma : Resinous and vegetal hops. Coffee with light chocolate. Taste : Vegetal and resinous hops. Slghtly malty with coffee. Finish is nicely roasty with chocolate and coffee. Resinous and piny hops. Faint acidity on finish. Palate : Average carbonation. Overall : Not bad. Taste feels a bit thin and borderline watery until the more complex and rich finish arrives. Light acidity that is a bit disturbing. Not bad overall but fairly thin... a bit over-attenuated for my taste.
3.6 500 ml bottle. From Copenhagen, Denmark. This was supposed to be a celebration for Danish victory today but Portugal made it unnecessary. But this definitely beats Sagres big time. Black colour with small tan head. Roasted malt, chocolate, sweet liquorice, mild ash, mild sweetness and cola in aroma. Flavour is crispier with roasted malt, ash, mild coffee, mild bitterish hops and cola. Aroma is more rounded than slightly harsh flavour. Slightly thin but otherwise quite satisfying Porter.
3.2 Bottle shared with my brother Pours black with a brown head that falls down to a thin layer. Smells of chocolate, butterscotch, coconut and roasted malts. Taste is medium sweet but this beer actually needs some more sweetness. Quite bitter finish but not any sort of bite. Some thin coffee and chocolate also apply. Medium to full body, dry on the palate, watery feel
3.6 Aroma:good coffee-chocolate nose... Appearance:Dark,good brown head... Flavor:rosted malt-chocolate.......
3.9 Bottle. Pours black, with almost no head. Very pleasant and full aroma with notes of chocolate, caramel and liquorice in a near perfect mix. Body is oily, and flavour is burned malts and coffee. Pleasant finish.
3.9 Botle, vin-og-gaver.dk. A great looking beer; jet black with a foaming, thick tan head, which retains well. Initially a strong peaty aroma, which dissipates quickly and becomes a bit soapy. I was surprised at it’s slight lack of body, but, overall, it’s a fine porter, with a lot of smoothness and some late chocolate and coffee notes and a good spicy finish.
3.4 On tap at Monk’s Porterhouse, Stockholm. Black, light beige head. Aroma of smoke, salt, peat, light sour cream, hard roasted malts. Flavour is light tart, sour cream, hard roasted malts, earthy peaty bitter roasty finish. Thin bodied. Expected more of this..
3.9 Bottlenekromanser...it pours pitch black with brown medium head.....the aroma is smoke, coffee, burn malt...Hell Yar! and chocolate.... the flavor is pretty much the same as for the nose....nice coffee, bitter finish a little bit thin finish.... still love it ! ....
3.5 Some fine brown head, black. Roasted barley, light bitter chocolate. Medium body and length. Bitter chocolate, filter cofee. Simple, but quite heavy.
4.1 50cl bottle, courtesy of and shared with Gnoff. BB 08-2013.
3.1 Malt aroma with a slightly acidic smoke flavor. The taste is slightly smoky and acidic with hints of roasted malt and coffee. There is a dry and mealy tone in the flavor that I like but also a watery and sour tone that I do not like. Difficult to assess!
3.6 Bottled. Pours opaque black with a little, tan head. Nose of roast and smoke. Flavour of coffee, licorice and smoke. Medium to full bodied. Oily teture. Flat carbonation. Ends up with a little bitterness. Nice.
3.7 Backlog - May 13, 2010. 500ml bottle shared by blankboy with me and garthicus. Extremely deep chestnut-coloured pour with a large frothy light brown lasting head. Aroma of over-boiled coffee - acidic, nearly burnt nutty roast, with dry herbal bitterness as well as an oddly lactic smokey maple syrup sweetness. The taste, however, is extremely balanced - light peat, dry herbal bitterness, decent acidic espresso, a touch of maple sugar. Slick and slightly thin body, a bit on the still side, starts nutty and a bit sweet, but finishes long and dry - very, very nice, if a touch thin-bodied.
3.7 Bottle @ Home. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of malt, caramel, chocolate, licorice. Taste is malt, caramel, coffee, licorice, berries, Medium to full body, soft carbonation. 170610
3.3 17th May 2009 Copenhagen Beer Festival. Opaque black beer. Dry palate. A tiny bit sour but lots of chocolate and coffee.
4.0 Rating #517, bottle from Fish N’ Beer A brown-black beer with lasting head. Aroma is streams of chocolate and sweet liqourice as from the liquorice allsorts candy. Flavours of chocolate, sweet liqourice, roasted malts and nice bitter finish. I would’ve liked a bit of alcohol and generally some more bite, but this is still a very enjoyable brew, and just what I needed to accompany Iron Maiden in the evening sun. Creamy, soft, but maybe a bit thin. Or am I just getting too used to impys? Indeed a fine brew.
4.0 Black with a light brown head. Aroma is hard roasted malt, coffee and peated smoke. Flavor is quite sweet and moderate bitter. Dry and bitter finish. I miss a bit of smoothness, but it’s still a great porter. 040910
4.2 Bottle. Pours pitch black, brown head. Big, smokey nose, lots of roasted malts, hops, coffee, asphalt. Full bodied, dry, balanced bitterness. Rich, smokey taste, pronounced roasted malts, notes of coffee beans, tar, hops, earth. Long, smokey, balanced finish. (2010-11-01)
4.0 Smoke malty intense fresh aroma. Delicious fresh fruity taste especially good with the blue cheese in front of me. Pours very dark with thin mokka foam. Medium pleasant body. The finish is long and slightly sour. I like this brew and will explore more Porters in the future.
3.6 Bottle 500ml shared courtesy of meilby.Pours black with average, light brown head. Aroma of coffee, licorice, roasted. Taste is slightly sweet and bitter, medium to long duration. Medium body, oily, soft carbonation.
3.7 Bottle 500ml @ home [Trade by fonefan] Pours almost black with a tan head. Aroma has notes of chocolate, coffee, leather and light peat/smoke. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter with a medium to long finish with hints of licorice. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.
3.3 500mL courtesy of CaptainCougar. Poured a deep brown with a healthy, tan head that had excellent retention and lace. Nose of vanilla, slight dry-cured olives, brine, vanilla extract. Taste is creamy up front with milk chocolate, sweet overall, moving to other characters to balance thankfully: hazelnut, coffee, some tart red grapes for some reason enter. Palate is fairly thin but sessionable. Very easy to drink. There is a big sour character here that distracts and is out of place.
