2.6 12oz bottle from Andrew.... Pours a cloudy apricot brown with a fluffy thick white head... Aroma of sweet sugary red fruit and very candy like... Currants def in the flavor with fluffy sugariness involved. Hardly drinkable at this point. Highly carbonated and effervescent.
2.9 hazy apricot color, respectable, quickly disappearing white head, some lace. sweet sweet fruit nose, some maltiness. sweet fruit flavor, hint of hops, finishing suggestion of alcohol. medium bodied, sweet finish. too sweet for me, but on the plus side, at least it is not cloying. bottle provided by cornfield.
3.7 Black cherry red pour with creamy white head and lace. Cherry like aroma as well. with sour kicker. Fruity but a tad flat and musty. A bit thin as well. A very funky but good beer.
3.4 Sampled at Noogfest High 5. Poured a red brown with an off-white head that left light lace. Aromas of caramel and dark fruits. The flavor found currants and malt background. Light to medium body.
3.3 @Noogfest High5-12oz bottle–pours an off white ring for a head and dark amber color. Aroma is dark berry-sweet. Taste is dark berry-sweet, some hops. Slight syrup on mouth feel.
3.5 Sampled at Noogfest High 5. Thanks to Lithy. Pours a hazy purple with tannish head. Good sour with dark berries that provides a decent pucker. Very interesting, I think they should bring this one back.
3.5 No shock this one is retired I get it had age on it. But still held up well. This poured a dark amber color with a beige head. The aroma contains some currants, other dark fruits, and yeast. The flavor was a bit yeasty from the age but didn’t distract much. Some currants, caramel, raisins, and yeasty notes. Nice beer RIP. You should pour yourself out for yourself errr yeah.
3.2 this beer was very interesting. it pours almost a purply orange with a pink like head. taste of current and citrus very warming with a dry finish.
4.0 Yup another imadeadguy gem. Poured gold with a white head. Good carb for being at least 5 years old. Aroma of fruit and candy. Refreshing fruit with some candy malt backbone. Stellar.
3.5 12 oz, thanks to lithy for sharing his 900th rating with this one! Didn’t know this was a retired beer at the time. red-brown with a nice lasting cap of foam. Nose of raisins and cherry. Tastes of raisins and cherry liqueur are dried well with some woody hop. Medium bodied, fairly smooth and acidic-dry.
3.0 Bottle at nearbeer’s Spring Cleansin’. Pours purple-hued orange with pinkish head. The aroma is black currant with some faint malty notes. The flavor is black currant, some oak, general dry fruitiness. Typical simple-minded fruit beer.
3.7 Rating #900. nearbeer’s Spring Cleansin’. Sample from a bottle shared by me thanks to loubrew at BA. 04 or 05 bottle. Ruddy red body with a pinkish white ring of head. Aroma is currant sweetness. Taste is of sweet black currents, with a woody earthiness. Not a horrifically sweet fruit beer.
3.4 Bottle, thanks to WeeHeavySD for sharing. Pours a murky amber-brown with a white ring. Huge sharp aroma, of malt, wood, citrus, and apple. Taste starts tart, with citrus, currants, and wood then picks up more sweetness, of malt, and brown sugar. Lingering tartness. Strange, but decent.
3.8 Bottle and my last one at that! Pours a hazy, orange / golden color with an extremely large, frothy, white head. Lacing is very strong, almost perfect. Aromas of strong raisins, a bit of honey, and finally some cherries throughout. Initial feel in the mouth is creamy and smooth, followed by a nice carbonation sizzle and then a nice, refreshingly slick finish. Flavors are mostly raisins to me, and it honestly reminds me a lot of their Miades Touch but much better. Glad that I could enjoy my last bottle on a cold night in DC. My rating, when I come back to it, is going to be inflated because of the sentimental value of this wonderful beer.
3.2 12oz via trade with Ibrew1or2, shared with dalekliz. Nice to try another old DFH beer. Pours dark reddish brown with a tan head. Nose is sweet with some currants. Taste is sweet with plums and some currant. Cloying and interesting. Glad to have had it.
3.8 12 oz bottle-Trade w/daknole-unsure of the vintage but it’s a few years old-cloudy medium maroon color w/o much head. Aromas of dark fruit. Very fruity flavor, currants (of course), plum, cherries, raspberry, very winelike. Reminded me of a Curve de Tomme...but not quite up to that quality. Heard a lot of conflicting opinions on this one, glad I got to try it. I think aging may have helped this mellow out & develop some subtle character. Great steak dinner/after dinner brew. Full mouthfeel w/a long fruity finish, alcohol was well hidden. Thanks Dakine
3.5 ’03 Vintage. Hazy orange with minimal head. Solid currant on the aroma with faint hops. A similar body with a thick mouthfeel.
3.1 12oz bottle. A dark maroon red with a pillowy pink tinted 3 finger head with clingy lacing. A currant aroma that is bold and rich, with just a hint of biscuity malt underneath. Tastes of strong currant that alternates between tart and sweet with an dry finish.
3.2 Bottle received via trade with daknole. Pours hazy ruby with a small, fizzy, off-white head, mostly diminishing with fair lacing. Aroma is average malt (bread, cookie), light hops (flowers), average yeast (dough, earth) with notes of plum, wine, and currants. Medium bodied, slick texture, average carbonation, and a sour finish. Average duration, moderate sweetness, light acidity and sourness.
3.5 Bottle from Ibrew2or3. Thanks man. Orangeish pour with a medium head. Lots of sour fruit on the nose, as well as some raison and other dark fruit. Taste is pretty refreshing and enjoyable with lots of fruit and some very mild hops.
3.2 Thanks to my friend Nick for scoring this! Copperish/orange pour wiith a nice head. Aroma is malty, sugary, grapes, raisins. Flavor is spicy and somewhat hoppy. Interesting brew.
3.2 Thanks to BDR for sharing this bottle! ’03 vintage. Orange opaque pour with little head. Sweet aroma of currants. Sweet, syrupy flavor of currant with a little spice and hops in there. A little too sweet, but very interesting.
4.4 2003 12oz Vintage. Pure Gusher! Pours hazy orange copper color with 1" of frothy with head. Aromas of grapes, sweet malt, and sugar. Flavor was just the same as the aroma. Very "slammable" brew and just downright good. I would like to have had a fresh batch of this to compare...
3.7 Bottle, courtesy Degirth. Pours a caramel reddish color, ruddy brown, with filmy lacing and a nice head. Aromas of raspberry, corn, grain, grits, some butter. Flavor is filled with intense and interesting fruit. Corn, grain, and other unique elements. Smooth and crisp, has managed to age well. Very good.
3.3 Bottle courtesy of Retorp. Pours a hazy amber with a small white head. Aroma is vinous with dry dark fruity and spicy yeast. Taste is the same as aroma. Medium mouthfeel with a mild amount of bitterness and smooth alcohol. Good.
2.6 Bottle from ibrew2or3! I guess this bottle is about 3 years old. Pours a muddy amber/brown color. Small head. Aroma of grapes, almost wine like. Taste is tart grape juice, or cranberry juice. Not that good, not that bad. It got worse as I drank more of it...Texture is medium. I am glad I tried this beer but I would not suggest seeking it out. Only wish I would of tried this 3 years ago....Thanks Dave for the brew!
2.5 Another fine bottle from Degarth. This beer looks absolutely grotesque, like a mixture of tomato juice and prune juice. No head at all. Strong currant aroma with some grape and apple. Syrupy mouthfeel. Faint taste of currants. Sour. This feels like it was much better when fresh.
2.1 Gold colored ale with fruit/berry scents, but no real fruit flavor. This was much more sour/tart than would be another ’fruit beer", but not at all what I would have expected. Relatively bland
3.6 12oz bottle, bottled 2003. Sweet and tart fruity aroma. Grapeish (I don’t know what currants taste like). Cloudy orange color with a small white head. Lightly sweet in the beginning with a tart finish. Light fine carbonation at the end.
4.0 Pours deep purple with a lavender, moderate head. Aroma is lightly sour and currant. Flavor is lightly sour with qualities of grape and currant. Moderate mouth feel.
