Dogfish Head Midas Touch Golden Elixir

Dogfish Head Midas Touch Golden Elixir

Midas Touch Golden Elixir is a beverage based on the residue found on the drinking vessels in King Midas’ tomb. Our recipe highlights the known ingredients of barley, white Muscat grapes, honey and saffron. Somehwere between a beer, wine and mead, this smooth, dry ale will please with Chardonnay or I.P.A. drinker alike.

4.2 12 ounce bottles gift from neighbors. Appearance: Pours a honey color, fully translucent with a pure white head. Head is creamy, a bit lager like and doesn't have much retention. There is some lacing but nothing to write home about. Aroma: Strong smells of pumpkin, caramel, vanilla and that's pretty much it. Very sweet presentation. Taste: It tastes of pumpkin, caramel and vanilla. Maybe some speculoos, but that's pretty much it. To the point and definitely not as sweet as I expected. Palate: Heavy-ish medium body with a carbonation that is a bit too lively for the beer in my opinion. Still decent. Overall: I usually don't like pumpkin beers, but this one is by far the best I've ever had. Still nothing spectacular, but it really delivers a nice dessert like (but not cloying in any way) pumpkin flavored beer.
3.5 355ml bottle. Minimally milky, orangey golden to amber colour with small to average, frothy to creamy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Sweet-ish, herbal, spicy and floral aroma, notes of honey, petals, a touch of marzipan, speculoos, white grapes. Taste is initially sweet-ish, biscuity malty and floral-fruity, notes of speculoos, marzipan, sugar powder, honey, herbal and spicy overtones, later slightly dry, vinous, almost oaky, hints of white grapes. Rich and complex, quite unusual, slightly too sweet overall.
3.8 Can't believe I've never rated this beer. Golden to orange body beneath a one finger white head. Aroma of biscuit, honey, corn. Taste is malt heavy with more biscuit, crackers, honey, corn, and just a hint of grape. Fairly easy to drink, tasty, and unique. Maybe a bit similar to a strong lager, even though this is an ale. I actually enjoyed the aroma a bit more than the flavor, although both are good.
3.3 Pours clear ruby golden with a thin, white head. Aroma is dried fruit, honey and a touch of clove. Taste is grape and honey, moving to herbs and light sour. Finish is smooth honey. A decent beer.
Tres bonne !
3.9 honey and golden wine infused to make it beery.not an easy feat as i see it but done very well here.essence of mead with good honey in the flavor and aroma as well as the body but done with green grape and infused with a quality carbonation just soft but with an edge. really completes the package.surprisingly good since i rarely enjoy wine.
3.4 From tap at Beavertown Extravaganza 2017. A clear golden coloured beer with a small white head. Aroma and flavour of honey, sugar, grass, caramel and sweetness.
3.4 Bottled on 3/26/09....sampled on 7/21/09- This reminded me more of a mead than a beer. Was told that it kind of was like wine, which it was a bit in flavor, but I found it be more like a strong honey beer. Light brown, honey colored appearance….maybe a little on the golden side. Not much carbonation or head. As I drank a few more sips I started to notice the grapes, which gave me that “white whine feel”. Still meadish to me as the other flavors prevailed over the grapes, which I liked. I’m not a big wine fan, and was afraid this would be a bit over the top for me. Not one of my favorites by DFH, but I would try again when in the mood for something different.
3.4 aromatics of grape and slight pine/earthy notes, appears golden amber in color, has a small white head, tastes of grape, almost white wine-like, also notes of something earthy that i couldn't place, a well rounded flavor that isn't too sweet or bitter, its palate is thick, creating a long lasting finish of pine and slight grape
4.0 Pours a clear golden. Smells like grape hard candy. Based on the smell, I thought the beer would be too sweet but it is well balanced and delicious. The grape is present but not too powerful. A really nice after taste and very little bitterness.
3.8 Pours a nice clear orange. Smell is honey and some yeasty breadiness. Taste is quite sweet with the honey, but excellent malt flavors dominate. The grapes give a nice, bright dimension. The body is light-medium. The alcohol is well-hidden. It all comes together nicely thanks to the malt profile.
3.8 Slightly hazy orange color with beige head. Aroma has sweet, syrupy malt, candied tangerines and resiny hops. Taste is bittersweet with dried fruits, candied apricot, bitter orange peel on the finish. Medium body with medium to light carbonation. Tasty, complex, well hidden ABV.
4.4 Midas Touch has a medium, white head, a yellow, hazy appearance, some bubbles, and not much glass lacing. Aroma is of odd, honey, sourdough, and spiced white bread. Taste is of those elements, with low or no bitterness. Rather heavy mouthfeel, here. Midas Touch finishes medium dry. Hard to get a handle on this one. RJT
5.0 It smells strongly of wine. First taste is nothing like it smells and the beer flavor stands out most with the grapes as more of an aftertaste. The aftertaste is amazing though, much like that of champagne. It's interesting to enjoy the flavor of the beer twice over that way.
4.2 Faint honey aroma with a golden appearance mead like malts complement the sugary finish.
3.2 12 oz. bottle. Clear pale gold, white head. Aroma of honey, grains, bread. Taste is grains, honey, white grape, faint herbs, no saffron. Finish is sweet and grainy. Not sure about this one. Okay.
3.1 Poors clear honey yellow with decent head. Aroma faint: some honey, malts. Taste slightly stronger: mostly malts and honey, some hints of muskat grapes to add some depth. MF soft. Rather unimpressive.
3.6 12 oz bottle pours golden with a white head. Aroma of honey, grapes and spices. Taste is sweet honey and grapes
4.1 Bottle Vero Beach Fl ABC. Light gold in color and clear with thin head. Aroma make me think of white wine (white grapes) and orange blossom honey. Light bodied, sweet and balanced with no strong alcohol taste for being 9%. " between wine and mead" is about as accurate as you can get with this sweet beer.
3.1 Rami Rami is drinking a Midas Touch by Dogfish Head Craft Brewery at Kamienica Hoża 41 No troche jak utleniona dipa ze sladem winogron i bez szafranu. Miod dominuje. Ale nie jak w braggocie tylko jak z utlenienia... alko schowa
3.6 Aroma: grape, malt, and notes of wood Taste: saturated flavor of grape and malt, notes of honey.Interesting beer very much alike wine
3.7 12oz bottle, found at a grocery store in Moncks Corner. Hazy golden amber with a thin white head. Raisins, grapes, prunes, mid-palate sweetness, ginger, wine. Full bodied with evident alcohol. Drying finish. Take some time with this one, unusual but very good.
2.8 Vom Fass Stone Brewing Berlin 2016-11 getrunken. Wird wohl mit weiße Muskattrauben, Honig und Safran gebraut. Klingt spannend und schmeckt auch echt gut. Allerdings wirkt es recht schnell etwas langweilig. Aber das ist heulen auf hohen Niveau.
2.9 UT090917 backlog. On tap at Beavertown Extravaganza 2017, London. Nose is Vegetables. Banana, biscuits, glue. Medium to heavy sweet, light fruity sour. Medium lasting fruity medium bittersweet. Light body, slick, medium carb. Bit heavy 635312
3.2 Noe tåkete gylden brun farge med minimalt hvitt skum. Lite lukt. Maltig, korn og noe urter. Lett. Noe blomsterbitter smak. middels lang.
3.7 12oz bottle shared by commonshawn. Combined in Moeder Lambic snifter glass. Golden orange color with a quick to dissipate white head. Nose is mostly bringing to mind sweet malty notes with a little but of a dark fruit, wine like presence. Taste follows suit with a sugary, malty sweetness. Kind of an odd sticky and syrupy feeling. Some dark fruit. I can see why the description implies a wine drinker would venture down its path. Alcohol burn towards the end. A few too many touches of these will definitely sneak up on you.
3.8 Keg at Beavertown Extravaganza, Canada Water. Really lovely and fruity beer. Soft fruit and some grain in the flavour.
3.7 Bottle at Mugishutei, Sapporo, can't locate date on bottle. Pours a cloudy deep orange gold, low head. Alcohol aroma at first, then honey, grapes, spice, perfume. All the notes in the flavour hit simultaneously, a lot to unpack. Sweet honey with booze warmth, slightly oxidized, plenty of grape tartness and strong ale malt lingering. Medium body with decent up front fizz, but shifts to warmth and smooth like a honey tea for a cold but with a dry finish. Very interesting, tastes like it might have a bit of time behind it which works just fine.
3.4 Disappointing typical macro pilsner-like aroma. Slightly darker than gold with an off white head. Tastes like green grapes and honey with a sparkling wine palate. Interesting, worth trying, bought a single, I wouldn't want a 4 pack.
3.3 330ml bottle @ Beijing China
