2.8Tap at Clubhouse BFD. Pours clear yellow, small white head. Aroma is pilsner lager, pear. Flavor is pear, mild citrus, kinda bitter. Decent.
3.7This beer has a bright golden pour. Almost no head. Aroma is sweet and fruity. I got a lot of apple and pear in the flavor. A dryer finish with just a touch of alcohol. Interesting.
3.6At another backwoods Ulster county tasting. Clean pilsner pour into the glass. Interesting twist with the pear addition. And the tea really snuck into the finish. Yum.
2.8Pour is a hazy golden with a large white head. Aroma is the pear juice with some herbal tea. The pear juice kind of dominates anything the base beer brought to the aroma. Flavor is a little better with more pear juice to start then comes a bready malt. Some saaz hops show up I guess but again the pear juice covers up all the other ingredients and gives this a soapy finish. I would have liked to have this beer without the juice to see what Dogfish could do with a normal pils.
2.712 oz bottle from Trader Joe’s. Poured in a Trumer stenge glass because why not. Even pouring carefully down the side, it still kicks up a frothy head, over a slightly hazy straw colored malt. Smell has a slight bit of fruit juice to it, but seems to be neither pear, nor pils. Gotta say the taste is not much to my liking, and I realize this "pear tea," whatever it is, is doing most of the talking. My experience with tea in beers has been pretty hit or miss and this one seems more like a "miss." Perhaps if they went without the tea and used more juice?
3.2Pours a golden color with thin white head. Aroma of malt and wheat. Taste a bit sweet, notes of pear. A bit of Pilsner bite. Still, a nice beer. Thumbs up.
3.1Nifty pils. Needs double the hops to enter close to wbhat i expect. Pear tones are also nifty and are tolerable. Just not what the dude trulh enjoys from this , his favorite of styles. Thanks for somethi g new is what you always say of dfh. Falls a skoash short.
3.412oz bottle. 12/2/15 bottle date. Appearance: Light golden, clear, white foam head, decent lacing.
Aroma: Bready malt, spicy Saaz hops, slight woody pear.
Taste: Light, bready malt sweetness, light green apple and pear fruitiness, and a sharp, strong spicy hop bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with some slight creaminess. Moderate carbonation.
Finish: Spicy Saaz hop bitterness lingers long after the swallow, with a touch of bready pear maltiness.
Overall: Interesting take on a Czech Pils. Has a nice Saaz hop component, and the pear addition adds a softer, sweeter overall flavor to the beer. Creates a more balanced flavor profile than the typical Czech Pils.
3.6On tap at Dogfish Head brewpub in Chantilly, VA. Pours light golden with white head. Aroma is crisp citrus with floral and herbal hops, and bready yeastiness. Flavor is light grainy malt with citrus, floral, and herbal hops. Finishes with spicy yeatiness.
3.9Bottle in hotel room Orlando 2016... Golden amber.. Soft zezty lime fruit nose... Juicy lime.. Zezty lemon... Bitter peel.. Juicy zezty fruits... Big grapefruit pith... Massivly pithy.... Id go as far as saying that i think its taking the pith
3.9Bottle into tulip. Enticing fruity floral piny aroma. Complex balanced malt and floral taste. Great Pilsner.
3.7Sampled on 2/14/2016. This pilsner pours a orange gold color from a 12oz bottle. Medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity, malty and sweet, with a touch of tea. Medium to light bodied pilsner. The malts are fruity and sweet, a touch bready. The hops are floral and spicy. Lively carbonation. A crisp and clean tasting pilsner. A touch of pear and tea flavors at the finish, with some lingering bitterness. Very drinkable pilsner, it would make a very nice lawn mower, hot weather beer, Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
3.9Bottle from Sprout’s: Poured a crystal clear golden elixir with a few thin strains of rising carbonation bubbles. Beautiful display of creamy whip cream like foam head that sticks around for several minutes before retreating downwards. My nose was confused as I was unable to pick up on much aroma other than a roasted nutty scent and a perhaps a whiff of light grain or wheat like malt used. The flavor is mild and soothing with a harmonious balance of melted butter on top of bread like malt flavorings paired with a crisp refreshing burst of earthy floral hops that taste similar to cooked green weeds and also dirt like flavors as strange as that sounds. Finish has a lurking yet lingering aftertaste of rose water or some other perfume like fragrance.
3.5Cloudy amber pour. Small off white head with stringy lacing. Nose is herbal hops, black tea, intense caramel malt. Slightly sweet and fruity. Moderate carbonation. Tea, bright and herbal hops, candied lemon. Strong malt backbone on this one. Couldn’t really taste much pear, but this one is still pretty different and fun.
3.4Tap @ Dogfish Head in NoVA. Golden yellow with white head and decent lacing. Smells dry and lemony, bordering on saison-like. Taste is lemony and dry,.but not saison-like. Moderate carbonation.
3.7Golden color . Medium-sized , white head. Aroma of malt and herbs with hint of tea and pears . Same notes in taste . Decent hoppy bitterness. Well balanced beer.
3.612 oz bottle pours golden with a white head. Aroma of malts, citrus and fruit. Taste is grains, citrus and fruit.
2.9Bottle - Smells malty sweet. Kind of a dry taste to it, can’t taste much if any pear flavoring. No bitterness with a large amount of malt flavor going on. Has a pretty light flavor to it, much lighter than I expect from a Dogfish crafted beer.
4.4Pours clear brilliant gold, fluffy white head. Mildly sweet aroma. Hoppy, moderate bitterness, tad sweet, notes of the tea really come through and compliment the hops/bitterness. A nice take on a style that can get monotonous, I say the risk resulted in a great reward for the drinker. A new favorite.
3.5On tap at Natalie’s coal fired pizza. Piercing pils is a clear lighter golden with a good head of white foam. Nose is light roasted malt. Taste is a good crisp bitters and mild malt. Light sweetness. Body is light and crisp. Clean finish.
3.3Citrus aroma, some pear/pineapple...a bit off. Crystal clear gold with a frothy white head. Sweet citrus up front. Fruity up front with some corn as well. Peppery bitterness follows. Crisp mouth feel, refreshing. The mix of fruit with pilsner is interesting but not my cup of tea. Will try again in summer as it is Zero degrees at the moment.
3.7Bottle. Pours a clear pale orange with a thin white head. Aroma of pale malts, earthy hops, light fruits, apricot. Flavor of pale malts with sweet fruits and pear in the finish. Also floral hops and a slightly spicy, bitter hop presence. The pear juice is subtle but certainly present. Lightly hopped. An excellent variant pilsener.
7/4/8/4/14 (3.7/5)
3.4Slightly Hazy Golden Color, Huge Foamy Head That Lasts And Leaves Lots Of Thick Lacing. Pear Aroma. Lively Above Average Carbonation. Sweet Mild Pear, With Modest Hop Bitter Finish and Aftertaste. After Trying their Tweason’ Ale I was somewhat skeptical of yet another Fruit Beer. Pleasant Surprise, This One actually Pretty Good. Easy Drinker. Enjoyed It. Worth A Try.
3.5Hazy gold with a nice fluffy white head. Aroma is crisp pale malt with a touch of fruit. Taste follows with noble hop bitter finish and notes of pearfruit. Pretty damn good rep of a pils. The fruit additions subtly enhance the classic crisp, dry pils. Excellent for the style.
3.2Pours clear yellow with a thick eggshell head that has some staying power. Crisp aroma presents fresh malt and pear tones, nothing special but appetizing. Flavor delivers crisp malty and firm near-perry notes, rather like a pils mixed with pear cider. Resiny, slightly bitter hops provide a nice undertone. Mouthfeel features average body and fizz, and it goes down nicely. Let it pierce you.
4.1Crisp, tart and light pear aroma. Clear golden body with a at least a three fingered snow cap head. Light pear and tart taste. Mild sweetness from the pear tea. Refreshing and light bodied. Has a pleasant zing to the palate.
3.2Clear light golden color with a nice white head. Nose is a touch fruity and a touch of earthy hops. Interesting take on a Pils. Pear is there, but certainly in the background. Getting some astringency from the hops or the tea? What the hell is pear tea, anyway?
2.1Pours a straw from a bottle, pale malt aroma. Sort of a tart skunky flavor, maybe a bit of pears in there. Meh.
3.4Bottle. The best pils I’ve ever tasted. Gold in Color with a large head. Aroma was spicy, grains and hay. Taste was grains , hay and a wonderful well balanced beer.
2.9Rated on 12-20-2015 (Bottle) The appearance is a large fizzy white head that mostly diminished, transparent bright yellow body, fizzy, lively carbonation observed, and spotty amounts of lacing. The aroma is grainy, spicy, floral hops, herbal, sweet, earthy, and some pear. The flavor of this beer is lightly bitter, sweet, grassy, herbal, floral hops, bready, and a hint of pear. The mouthfeel is light carbonation and this beer is medium bodied. This beer has an unusual taste to it that I do not particular care for. This beer in my opinion is not one of this brewer’s better beers.
