3.7 Nice example of the style. Heavy enough sugar and spice and pumpkin to be noticed but not overpowering. Not overly heavy like a stout or porter. Bitter finish.
4.1 Delicious seasonal brew
3.6 One of the better pumpkin ales I’ve tried. Good body, traditional spice, not too sweet, well balanced. Would definitely order again when in the mood
3.4 12oz bottle at Saraveza, Portland, OR on 02/09/2009. One of the nicest pumpkin ales I’ve had. Smooth, and with more of a malt drive, supported by gentle cinnamon, nutmeg and brown sugar.
3.8 I really liked this pumpkin ale. Not overwhelmingly pumpkin spiced, not too sweet. Really, a nicely balanced brew. Tried at Sabrandy’s in 2019.
4.2 Dark orange brown pour. Thin head. Pumpkin and pie spice nose. Initial taste of pumpkin with barley palate. Sweet and sour.
3.2 clear amber colour, large, dense and stable off-white head; aroma and taste of pumpkins, some cinnamon, slight clove, nutmeg and biscuity-caramel notes; not bad
4.0 Perfect lil punkin beer.
3.7 12-ounce bottle pours copper with a tiny beige head and some lacing. Aroma: brown sugar, pumpkin pie spice. Flavor: cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar, raisins, pecans. Mouthfeel: medium-bodied, slick finish.
2.7 Orangey bronze color, white head. Pumpkin pie aroma. Sweet pumpkin pie flavored beer, caramel, spices. I love pumpkin pie, but why in a beer? It doesn't taste neceasarily bad I just don't see why.
3.3 12 oz bottle, pours clear orange amber. Nutmeg and pumpkin dominate the aroma. Strongly spiced taste and finish, with pumpkin overpowered. Finish is somewhat unpleasant.
3.6 12 oz bottle from Trader Joe's in Short Pump, VA The ale poured an almost clear rich amber color with and off-white head and lacing. A good looking ale. Your nose is attacked by clove, cinnamon, and hints of vanilla. Your taste buds are assaulted as well with more cinnamon and earthy chocolate. The pumpkin taste is very muted by the other spices. The ale has a medium body and average carbonation. Not bad for a seasonal ale. I like the ABV at 7%.
3.4 Bottle. Pours brown. Vanilla, clove, cinnamon, biscuit, little earthy, touch of milk chocolate, dryish finish. Medium body. Not bad.
3.4 Nice juicy medium body, mild sweetness without any sour or off notes. Pure pumpkin moderate flavor without intrusive spice notes which is so refreshing!
3.5 Pint, draft at Winking Lizard in Copley . Smell the pumpkin and the spices. Amber in color with light white head. Taste soft cinnamon and nutmeg. Pumpkin also. Spice aftertaste. Delightful pumpkin and really drinkable. Cheers!
3.9 Pours up a clear dark amber color in the glass, with a tan head. Pumpkin flavor is detectable amidst a cocktail of spices, including cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla. Where this ale excels the most is it's body as a brown ale, which creates a naturally rich platform for pumpkin without the overbearing muddiness of some. A little heavy on the spices, but good.
4.4 5/5/19 With A chilling after taking little bit to a double friend birthday with tacos earlier today. Super malty nose with lots of warming fall spice. Taste is soooo warm and spicy. Pumpkin up front then quickly overwhelmed by a bouquet of cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla. Stays sweet and malty with barely any bitterness. Palate is crisp and med-light. So much spice on the finish. Overall, absolute WOW! So spicy and warm. Amazing pumpkin beer.
3.6 Aroma of malt, pumpkin and bit of cinnamon Balanced taste of sweet pumpkin and malt with breadish flavour nd spices
3.2 Pours clear amber with one finger, light tan head. Aroma is pumpkin, nutmeg and light roast. Taste is light caramel and light pumpkin, moving to cinnamon and nutmeg. Finish is nutmeg. A decent pumpkin spice beer.
3.7 Bottle. Pumpkin spice aroma that includes nutmeg and cinnamon as well as notes of pumpkin and brown sugar. Pours clear amber colored with one finger of tan head that has excellent retention and lacing. Starts with pumpkin and sweet brown sugar flavors. Finishes smooth with cinnamon and nutmeg spice flavors. Solid pumpkin beer, but a bit too heavy of the spice.
4.1 Full of flavor, great raw aftertaste
2.3 12floz bottle, date smudged, ~$2.50 single, pint glass. First off this beer's base is not a brown ale. It's copper, and had a small amount of head that quickly dissipates. Cinnamon and pumpkin are most pronounced in the nose. These aromas are tasted along with nutmeg. Malty, and the mix of spices and pumpkin comes off as a bit medicinal. This is pretty typical for what is put as pumpkin ale, but I'd prefer brewers use less spice, and be used in darker beers.
3.7 330ml bottle served in a pint glass. Pours a slightly cloudy amber chestnut color that forms a medium and very thin creamy light beige head. Good retention with creamy lingering lacings formed and left in the glass. Sweet and spicy nose. Strong notes of toffee, caramel, pumpkin pie, cinnamon, honey, chestnut, vanilla and caramel malts. Flowery hops. Sweet upfront taste too. Strong notes of toffee, caramel, pumpkin pie, cinnamon, honey, vanilla, chestnut, caramel malts, roasted malts and flowery hops. Good lingering bitterness to the style. Medium creamy and smooth body. Medium carbonation. Toffee, pumpkin pie and cinnamon in the afteraste. Not my favorite style but DFH will always surprise you.
3.2 From backlog. Bottle from BevMo, Oceanside, Ca. Orange with offwhite head. Malts, hops, pumpkin and yeast.
4.5 Punkin Ale has a thin, off-white head, a clear, bubbly, orange appearance, and no glass lacing. Aroma is of faint spices and pumpkin meat, with some strong malt. Taste is similar, with a sort of high-gravity malt liquor back note. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Punkin Ale finishes mostly crisp. RJT
3.7 Bottle. I like pumpkin ales. I just do. This is one of the better ones. Orange in color, pumpkin pie spice in taste and aroma.
3.2 I am not too fond of pumpkin ales, but I love Dogfish Head, so decided to give this a try...especially since it's a little stronger at 7%. Was hoping it would be similar in style to their Aprihop, but this is more of a spiced brown ale. Appearance is a little lighter than most brown ales, maybe a lighter to medium brown with some orange hints from the pumpkin. Tastes of brown sugar, nutmeg, cinnamin, pumpkin, all-spice, and malts.....pretty much is pumpkin pie in a bottle. With each sample from my 4-pack, I found it sweeter and sweeter until by the end, I just said "yeah, this is way too sweet for me". They probably could cut the brown sugar back a bit, but that is what they were aiming for I guess. A decent seasonal beer, but one of my least favorite DFH brews.
3.2 12 oz bottle into a La Chouffe stemmed tulip on 2nd Jan 2018, at my daughters in California. Not had a lot of Pumpkin Ales (they rarely make it across the pond to England), so no major judge of the type. Poured a misty autumnal orange with a wisp and collar instead of a head. Definite pumpkin aroma and taste, spiced with cinnamon and fairly sweet throughout. Almost enjoyed it.
3.5 Pumpkin in color with an ale-ish smell. Spiced without being overbearing on the pumpkin. Somewhat creamy bod without being the consistency of molasses. A good seasonal.
3.7 Clear copper with a small creamy head. Cinnamon is the major smell, with some other spices (All-Spice?). Taste is very good, but more pumpkin pie (spice), than pumpkin. Nice and easy going down. A very nice fall brew
