Dogfish Head Romantic Chemistry

Dogfish Head Romantic Chemistry

What you have here is a serious India Pale Ale shacking up and hunkering down with mango and apricots. At the same time! Romantic Chemistry is brewed with an intermingling of mangos, apricots and ginger, and then dry-hopped with three varieties of hops to deliver a tropical fruit aroma and a hop-forward finish. It’s fruity, it’s hoppy, it’s tasty!

3.5 11-APR-2018, bottle @Eataly Chicago. Coppe with a low, lasting, White head. Aroma is weak, fruity and spicy. Taste the same with some malt too. The fruity stuff is more than just hops. Sweet and bitter. This is OK but not to die for.
3.6 Pours clear amber, off white head. Aroma is hop forward, fruit, grass, subtle mango. Taste is hops, pine, malt, hints of ginger. Not the mango bomb one might expect. light to medium mouthfeel, substantial bite on the aftertaste. creamier as it warms.
3.7 Tasted from a 12oz. bottle. It poured a clear amber hue with a frothy off white head that seems to pick up some orange from the beer below. Mild aroma, and I'm a bit disappointed that I didn't pick up mango or apricot. Mild bitterness with balanced hops and malt. A bit of sweet fruit comes through as you drink, but not as much as you might expect from the label and description. 🎼We had chemistry 'cause she was a cancer. Thought forever it would last for, but forever moved faster, so I had to: Go🎶
3.3 on tap at Yard House in Moorestown NJ - decent amber color. Malt and slight hop flavor.
3.6 On tap. Pours a clear bright amber color with a nice head. Aroma of tropical fruit, hint of yeast and malt sweetness. Taste of light tropical fruit, bit of malt sweetness and ever so lightly tart. Mild bitterness and a clean finish. Fairly light body, nice balance between the fruits and hops. Nicely done. Tasty
3.8 The aroma has all the fruit from the description plus a dose of dank hops. Dark IPA with a cream colored head. The taste is also mango, apricot and ginger but has a sharp hop bite not detectable in the aroma. This was good. So glad DFH is available in St. Louis now.
2.8 Shared 12 oz. bottle poured to snifters showing a clear amber color, with a presentable layer of soft white froth, and foamy spots of lacing. The nose was a bit metallic & tinny, probably prompted by a stale dose of ginger, ripe esters that were as pit fruit, some tropical variety, and a bit of rind. Light bodied, with fair carbonation, the taste was somewhat similar, thin textured, with some tartness & tanginess, but no uplifting astringency for a quality IPA.
3.7 From tap. An amber coloured beer with a white head. Aroma and flavour of malt, hops, fruit, grapefruit, citrus, apricot, mango and with a bitter finish.
3.5 On tap at Red Cow North Loop. Pours a clear amber orange with a egg shell white head that dissipates to the edges and laces slightly. Aroma has tropical and ginger with a note of citrus rind underlying. Flavor has a good amount of ginger supported by tropical fruits and citrus.
3.4 Bottle. It poured a hazy copper color with a white head. The aroma was of malts, oranges, apricots and hops. The taste was similar to the aroma with more malts, oranges, apricots, ginger, hops and medium carbonation with a semi-sweet aftertaste. Good stuff.
2.3 Amber color, very clear bubbly pour, half inch white head. Yeasty aroma, waxy, banana, and apricot. Average carbonation, mouthfeel a bit thin, finishes slightly dry. Apricot tastes fresh, has some bitter, Belgiany yeast flavor is wheaty and has banana eaters.
3.5 Slight fruity with tropical fruit, low malt but medium high hops. Lovely carbonated with great character
3.4 Apricot nose, hints of orange. Mango, orange and apricot, with a touch of piney hop flavor. Also some sweet caramel and toffee malt flavors.
4.0 Between the apricots, mango, and ginger, there's a lot going on in this amber-colored IPA. This beer is trippy. Usually, I'm not a fan of IPAs that are this overtly fruity, tangy, and spicy, but Romantic Chemistry achieves a great flavor balance between the juices and ginger, even if it comes at the cost of hoppiness. Also the crisp, vibrant, and dry textures are wonderfully inviting.
2.6 Aroma: Light scent overall, primarily citrus and hops. Appearance: Copper with a light head Taste: A little sweet, sour, and hoppy. A bit odd to be honest. Palate: Strong carbonation, bitter finish. Overall: Eh, I'm not a huge fan of this one. Ginger is awesome, and I love mangoes and apricots but I think the combination of them doesn't really work for me.
5.0 Smoooooth and refreshing:)
2.8 Hazy dark amber with a beige head. The aroma has some resiny hops. with some noticeable apricot, and some mild ginger, although it comes off a bit like white pepper. The flavor is pretty subtle and muddled. I can only really pick out the ginger and some caramel malts. There is some fruit in there but the caramel is too dark/rich and hides most of it.
3.3 Well I did not like it. It looks good, fragrant, but just too much fruit when I want some hops. On tap at Pomodoras.
3.3 Slightly hazy, copper pour with an off-white head. The aroma has apricots and oranges. It has a light body with oily texture and lively carbonation. The taste is bittersweet with a dry, somewhat bland finish.
3.2 Bottle. Clear coppery body, medium clumping cream head. Nose of fruit and lots of zesty, spicy citrus peel; also pine. Big, sweet, chewy body with lots of sticky fruit, bitter citrus peel, and strange herbal floral notes that come together oddly and don't ultimately deliver.
3.2 Pours clear amber, well carbonated, medium cream head with nice lacing. Aroma is fruity, not very strong. Tastes medium bitter, some tartness, strong booze taste, apricot and mango are there, not overwhelming, ale malts, caramel, citrus, ginger and biscuit. Light bodied, smooth and easy to drink, dry finish. Not a memorable ale.
4.2 Apple, cider, apricot, and pear. Strong citrus flavor on the front end and mellows into a more grassy finish. Really great.
2.4 No chemistry with me... almost orange in color, smell with very little hop (well, it's an IPA though) with apricot. Good bitterness but a nauseous (though subtle) mango flavor. Draft, in their own bar
3.3 Color is beautiful amber. Aroma is of alcohol with hints of apricot and hops. Taste of apricots, hops, with a nice malt backbone. Smooth. Light mouthfeel for an IPA. Very nice.
2.9 Aroma is sweet. Taste is an OK balance of citrus and piney light hops. Overall decent, not great.
3.5 Generic fruits, stone fruits, apricot, tropical fruits, spices, grain malts. Clear gold, small, creamy, white head. Light sweet. More tropical and stone fruits, mango, sweet grain malts, soft carbonation, medium bodied. Very nice and complex IPA. Keg at Sabbia at La Birreria, Manhattan.
3.4 9/22/2017 (12 fl oz bottle): Very floral and fruity aroma, fleshy fruits including ripe apricot, peach, notes of caramelized tropical fruits; deep orange color, slightly cloudy, lasting off-white head; flavor of fresh, ripe fruits including mango, papaya, and peach, lots of floral notes, toasted maltiness, slightly sweet, mild and smooth bitterness; medium body, smooth and creamy mouthfeel; pretty good, quite fruity and hoppy, but not as pungent as expected and I would have liked more ginger and mango.
3.4 An IPA by style, but not overly hoppy. Nice apricot flavor, but the remainder of the citrus flavors are subtle. Smooth finish.
3.6 Very good beer, the ginger addition is strange but I guess Dogfish wants their beers to be like bouquets. I very much like the apricot taste, it brings a sweet tartness you wouldn't otherwise get. I would definitely roll a six pack of this, but I'm afraid I'd drink it all in one night, very drinkable and tasty. Something about it makes you want a little more... plus the price is extravagant, $15 plus change, I might assume the tax would send it to $16 dollars, which is outrageous for this beer. I would pay $11 for a sixer and no more. I'll buy it in samplers I suppose... but never a sixer.
3.9 Bottle. It poured an amber color with a nice white head and minimal lacing. The aroma is hoppy with notes of tropical fruits - mango and orange. It has a nice bitterness level for a pale ale.
