Dominion Ale

Dominion Ale

Dominion Ale is brewed in an English style with American Two-Row Pale, Caramel, and Black malts. We use Perle, Willamette, and Mount Hood hops from the Pacific Northwest and English Kent Golding Hops. We ferment our ale with a traditional American yeast in the German Kolsch style - warm, fast fermentation followed by a slow maturation. Dominion Ale is malty with an assertive hop character dominated by the Kent Golding. It is crystal clear amber colored with medium body. Widely available in bottles and on draft, often as a house brand name.

3.3 Received this as a present for Christmas so had to have one while playing Wii on Christmas day! Thanks Gayle! Nice aroma with earthy notes and a hint of toffee that lasts for a long time. Finishes so well that I would rate this beer as very drinkable. Two thumbs up! Need to save some for CMB when he comes home in a few weeks
3.1 Bottle. Caramel malt with hint of hops. Amber color with small head. Sweet caramel malt and moderately bitter herbal hops flavor. Okay - nothing special.
3.6 Video review at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBuR1zbYdSE Appearance: Transparent amber, ½-finger of head, excellent lacing Smell: Bready + carmel malt, buttery biscuit, dead pine wood, grassiness, asphalt Taste: Medium body, toffee, buttery biscuit, earthiness, toasted oats, roses + floral note, walnut, hint of allspice, creamy mouthfeel, medium carbonation, drinkable Pairings: Fish & chips
2.5 Tap. Murky brown amber orange with a thin white head. Lots of caramel and astringent soapy tea-like hoppiness. Same for the flavor with more if a weird bitterness and toffee. Watery body with tight carbonation. Meh
3.6 Refrigerated bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a clear copper with inch and an inch and a half off-white head. Some lacing, light carbonation, and medium body. Taste is lightly roasted malt and a hop finish.
2.7 Tap at Chadwick’s in Friendship Heights labeled as "Chadwick’s Ale." The pour is a clear tea amber with a thin, diminishing, beige head. No lace or retention. Nose is sweet cherry and heavy grenadine. Taste is sweeter, with lots of English malt, with a good dose of buttered popcorn/diacetyl and heavy biscuit. In the finish is sort of a stinging EKG bitterness. Diacetyl heaviness and faux body prove too much to quickly put down this beer and it ends up being more of a chore than a treat. Very dense and heavy palate. Almost zero hoppiness. Butter explosion.
3.0 Bottle. Pours a pale amber color wit ha small white head. Has a fruity malty caramel aroma with weak hoppy hints. Fruity malty caramel flavor with hoppy hints. Has a fruity malty caramel finish.
2.7 This Delaware beer pours amber from tap with a thin white head and slight notes of caramel. Decent maltiness on the tongue but nothing to write home about. Finish is clean.
3.2 A: The beer pours a dark amber color with a finger of creamy, tan head. S: Smells slightly meaty, which is a bit off-putting. Under that, there’s toasted bread and toffee. A hint of brown sugar and some floral and grassy hops. T: A bit better on the palate. Brown sugar, toffee, and toasted bread makes up the bulk of the flavor. A light fruitiness, particularly orange peel. Very light metal notes on the back end. M: Medium in body with medium carbonation. O: Not awful, but too many things wrong with this beer.
2.6 kinda boring. clear dull amber pour with minimal head. malty biscuit and toast. sweet nose and semi-bitter ’old english hops’ finish. Not a big fan, but I think it’s probably the style.
2.8 From bottle. Smells rather malty. Darker than pale lager in an orangy way. Smoother creamy initial impressions. Refreshing somewhat enjoyable beer. Easy going at first but then the malty bitterness begins to set in. Bold enjoyable stinging fine co2. Slippery fun goes down nicely. Makes me think of that great divide beer. Hides what alky it it has, rather well.
3.1 Reviewed from notes. Pours a sligtly hazed golden color with a white head. Nose is lift toffee and some citrus and floral hops. A bit of diacetyl but not too much and it fits in somewhat well. Taste is a bit sweet and a bit bitter. Pretty good balance. Feel is a bit thin but has good carbonation levels and a nice finish. Drinks well and is fairly sessionable. 3.1 Draft at Dulles Airport. Deep golden color, huge off white head. Aroma of straw and hay. taste is slightly bitter, light body. Plain.
2.9 Pours amber with a thin white head; bubbles run the glass bottom to top.A balanced beer between hops and malts.I could drink this beer year round not to light and not to heavy.Over all good but not great worth a try.
2.7 Brown amber color, head dissipates quickly. Nice roasty caramel malt aroma. This brew has a slight sourness and has mild bitterness but finishes clean without much of an aftertaste. Not bad, it has some nice characteristics.
3.1 Red-orange, off white foam. Aroma is very toffee rich, sticky, caramel, some apple. Taste is sweet, light metal, some caramel but kinda bleh.
2.5 12 oz bottle: Pours a medium bronze. Aroma is doughy as is flavor. Malty but not too sweet. Decent ale.
2.7 12oz bottle - according to the label "Brewed and Bottled by Old Dominion Brewing Co Ltd, Dover, DE" - so strange that it’s not listed under them. Pours a dull amber with a trace of white head; straightforward malty aroma and flavour with some peppery caramel adding to the complexity; the finish is dry with little sign of any hops, certainly no trace of Goldings as I know them.
2.7 Clear amber with a small head... english hop aroma and english malt... dryish yet sweet finish, a touch of an unpleasant finish, would go well with soft candy... malts dominate the flavor, not sweet til the finish, not my speed, a touch creamy... kind of wish amber ales would be split into american hoppy amber ales and more english maltier ales...
3.7 Very good pub ale. Light, crisp and smooth with notable caramel malt. It’s good for sitting at the pub. That’s about it. Rated 3/17/03
2.5 Draft. Pours a dark copper with a medium whitish head. Aroma and flavor are lightly malty with some floral hops. Rather too much sour skunkiness -- not sure if that’s intentional. Lower-end craft brew, but not bad.
3.3 Bottle: Poured a copper color with a small head. The aroma was malts. The flavor was sweet malts and caramel. Very smooth. Overall, a beer that’s drinkable all day long.
3.2 Bottle. Pours a clear copper hued amber with a thin white head. Nice biscuit and malt profile, a touch of toast. Medium bodied, velvety. Caramel flavors, a bit sweet with some biscuit and grain. Finishes up with some dry grainy bitterness.
3.1 (12 ounce bottle - pint glass) Aroma is malty. Taste is a balance between malt and hops leaning toward the malty side. Mouthfeel in my opinion has a perfect amount of carbonation. Has a short lightly hoppy bitter finish. Overall it makes a good session beer.
2.8 another nice pale ale from old dominion brewing co. not as hoppy as most american micro brews (surprise), but still very hoppy and tasty.
2.4 A smooth experience overall, but it doesn’t stand out. It’s somewhat bland, although non-offensive.
1.6 12oz bottle @ 1st Annual RocketCity Brewfest, Huntsville, AL. Clear golden. Aroma of egg salad. Flavor is musty munich malts. Blah. Don’t like it. 08 may 09
3.4 Pours copper with a tan head. Smells of sweet malt, earthy, some tea. Tastes sweet and peppery with an earthy finish.
3.3 Tap at the Dulles location. Pours a very dark copper with a creamy/frothy near white head. Aroma seems dusty. Near medium body with smooth, bubbly carbonation. Not really all that bitter, but definitely tasty. Theres enough hop tobalance the light roast malt. It truly brings to mind AB American Ale. Finishes lightly fruity. Better than many.
3.0 Overall Impression: A nice tasty ale with a decent balance between the hops and the malts, leaning toward the malty side.
