Dominion Millennium

Dominion Millennium

Dominion Millennium is a very strong ale brewed in the English Barley Wine style. Often called the "sherry of the beer world", barley wine is best sipped at warmer temperatures, and should be enjoyed in moderation, as it contains twice the alcohol of regular beers.

3.8 Bottle from Bethesda bottle shop. Nice amber body with medium head. Nose is sweet, sugary, malts with vanilla. Taste is sweet, caramel, malts, oak. Quite nice.
3.5 2010, 10.5% abv bottle thanks to billshmeinke. Pours with a quite murky deep bronze to amber hue with a medium sized offwhite head that fades to a ring. Big aroma of booze, sweet cara malts, stewed fruits, figs, dates, marmalade and honey. Very sticky smelling yet pretty refined. Flavors are malty, sweet, toasty, honeycomb, tea, marmalade and raisins. Lots of crystal malts, yet surprisingly not quite as sticky as expected. Medium to full body, medium carbonation with some alcohol.
3.3 earthy, roasty, golden, clear, cloudy, minimal head, medium bitterness, very bitter, full body, lively, bitter, long finish,
3.7 On draft at the Mad Fox Barley Wine Festival, Falls Church VA. Pours an almost clear amber with a creamy off white head that receded leaving lots of lacing. Caramel and raisin notes in the nose. Viscous mouth feel with medium carbonation. Flavors of honey, caramel and citrus hops. Alcohol strong in the bitter finish.
4.1 Delicious Barley Wine-style beer. Malty with fruity notes. The heaviness of this beer means you won’t be tempted to "throw them back". This beer should be sipped and enjoyed. Works very well as a "dessert beer". 2012 vintage was MUCH better than 2011’s.
3.7 12oz bottle into snifter glass. Reddish brown color with off-white head. Aroma of sweet bready malt, caramel, honey, dried fruits(raisins, plums, figs) and alcohol. Taste is the same as aroma, a little tartness too. Moderate mouth-feel and carbonation, balanced, somewhat hot alcohol and hoppy finish after the overall rich sweetness. Very good.
3.4 yeasty, roasty malts in the aroma,a bit fruity and raisiny too, honey, and a hint of hops as well...appearance..slightly cloudy brownish amber creamy white head good lacing...i get a strong and slightly scotch like alcohol hit up front in the flavor and finish.. fruitiness and surprising bitterness,or is that burn,in between..some barleywines tend more toward the scotch ale side and this is one.if thats your bag you might like this, but for me it’s.not bad but not a fav
3.3 Tap. Pours mostly clear brown with a hint of amber and average, creamy, off-white head; decent retention and spare lacing. Aroma is cookie and bread malts, cherries, figs, yeast, and light chocolate. Flavor is sweet malt forward with a heavy dose of dark fruit esters and faint floral hops; dry finish with light booze. Full body and low carbonation.
3.6 ’04 vintage shared at Blue Christmas 2012. Near clear amber copper pour with minimal offwhite head. Notes of plum, figs, raisin, and mild alcohol. This had mellowed quite nicely. Still had some decent carbonation on it too. This was pretty tasty, even if a good bit oxidized, but the ’05 oaked version was superior.
3.3 From the October 2012 3R6P tasting. +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a caramel-bronze color with a medium sized foamy orange-beige head that lingered and left some lacing. The aroma was semi sweet and boozy with notes of caramel, honey and faint vague fruits. The flavor was sweetish, bitter and boozy with moderate notes of honey and toffee. Long, boozy honey finish. Moderately full boded. Too much booziness. Ok.
3.8 01 Bottle with Evan, pours murky caramel color with no head or lacing, pretty carbonated for a beer that old. Aromas of fig, plum, dates, caramel, toast. Taste is plums, toffee, cherry, bread, molasses. Lightly tart, very smooth for 11 percent. Bitterness came through as it warmed. Sticky palate medium bodied barley.
3.7 Pours reddish brown with small off white head. Aroma is caramel, toffee and dark fruits. Taste was sweet with some light tartness on the finish,
3.5 12 ounce bottle pours an amber color, aromas of honey, toffee, caramel, and some dark fruit. Flavors follow suit, with a slightly sweet honey aftertaste. Nice beer overall.
3.7 12 oz. bottle; no year, but it has to be 2011 or 2010. Pours a hazy, wood-amber color with a small, yellowed off-white head. Aroma of toffee, brown sugar, dates, raisins, rum bread, and berries. Flavor of leaves, wood, toffee, cookies, brown sugar, plums, dates, and figs. Medium-bodied, with a sweet, boozy mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Lingering sweetness. Good barley wine. Nice to have a non-DFH Delaware beer on a rare occasion.
3.7 Pours a beautiful ruby red to brown with a touch of head that laces thinly around the glass. Nose & taste are of caramel, toffee, sweet fruits like plum & raisin. A bit of tartness almost of cherries without the cherry flavor. Solid brew, thanks for the toss in Watson1977!
3.2 Draft. Pours golden orange with an off white head. Sweet fruity aroma, almost juicy, with light toasted malts. The flavor has some peach-like fruity sweetness, toasted malts, and honey. Not bad.
3.7 Pours a cloudy copper brown color with a quickly dissipating cream-colored head. Aroma of fig, plum, caramel, and honey. Plum, fig flavor with caramel and a honey sweetness. Very nice beer!
3.4 Great dark brown appearance. Smells and tastes of honey. Strange, papery aftertaste.
3.5 Pour thanks to motortoddhead. Orange-amber in color. Nose is very caramel with a bit of fruitiness. Flavor well-refined toasted malt, dried apricot, caramel sweetness, and a bite of hop bitterness at the end. Residual sticky malts and hop bitterness to the finish. Alcohol moderately well hidden with a little trailing heat.
3.4 11/2011 SBF: Pours a copper color with a whithe head. Sweet and malty overtones with coramel and bready finish.
3.5 Tap. Decent barley wine. generally like them a little hoppier but not bad. Almost reminds me of caramel.
3.8 Dark brown-orange, off white cover. Aroma is dark fruits, caramel, brown sugar, alcohol. Taste is sweet, fig, plum, lots of fruit and caramel. Nice stuff.
3.4 Amber to reddish brown body. Fruity, citric, grainy aroma. Moderately bitter, moderately sweet flavour. Quite well balanced, but not very complex (bit subttle).
3.9 12 ounce thanks to watson1977. Big orange barley wine with a nice pour. Bottled January this year. Lots of sugar, honey, and sweet in the taste. I find the alcohol to be hidden. Bit of apple and pear as well. Very nice barley wine.
3.8 Bottle (from the november 2005 RB-tasting at Dixens place - notes have been damaged by flooding of my basement, but this was such an insane tasting for me as I was new to such massive tastings, so I gave up on the detailed notes quite early). Light hoppy, heavy, sweet malt. All that was readable...
3.4 Bottle. Amber body with a shorty, frothy, off-white head, mostly diminishing. Malty aroma of caramel, cookie, dough and alcohol. No hop aroma of speak of. The flavor is moderately to heavily sweet and lightluy bitter. It finishes moderately sweet and moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture and moderate carbonation. Very hot finish. Tasty, but fairly simple. Too much alcohol. Nice balance of bitterness to hold the malts in check, even with some age on this bottle.
3.8 In short: A pleasantly hoppy (flowery) barley wine How: Bottle 12oz. Consumed when probably around 6 to 12 months of age The look: Cloudy dark amber body topped by a very small beige head In long: Nose has surprising strong floral hops component (almost perfumy) over a load of sweet and dried fruits. Taste starts with a solid malt backbone, nice fruity toffee, a bit too much alcohol, a shot of rum, plenty of raisins, a mix bag of dried fruits, flowery hops that reminds me of lilacs. Bitterness is quite assertive for an 11% barley wine and provides a perfect balance. I thought this big bold beer was dangerously easy to drink. I’m rating this fine American beer today July 4th. Happy birthday to Canada’s fat butt.
2.4 Bottle from Cavie. Brownish orange pour with a white head. Aroma is plums and too much sweetness. Taste is also just too damn sweet.
3.1 Bottle via trade. More than likely drowland. Cheeky bastard. Pours a clear orange color with a slight white head. Aroma is sharp caramel malts, brown sugar, aged notes and alcohol. Flavor is very sweet. Sugary malts and caramel. Geez this is super sweet. Drippy malts.
3.3 bottle - pours a clear burnt orange with slight white head. lively carbonation. Aroma I’m picking up toasted nuts with cherry notes. Taste is sweet with a long mildly bitter finish. This beer has a bit of weight to it with a thick and creamy mouth feel. Overall, I’d say this is a better than average barley wine.
