Dominion Oak Barrel Stout

Dominion Oak Barrel Stout

Dominion Oak Barrel Stout is rich and smooth, a draught brew so popular at our Brewup that we found a way to bottle it for a wider audience. We combine seven different malts and two hops to create a delicious stout, that we dry-hop with fresh vanilla beans and toasted oak to finish our little treasure. The result is a stout that has the bourbon barrel flavor we all enjoy, and hope you will to.

Note: made with oak chips and vanilla beans, not aged in barrels. Available bottled and draft outside of the brewpub.

3.4 Low oak scent and flavour, a bit watery. Slight sweetness up front. Not a lot of hops or bitter, but still a nice velvet coating and a thick enough to a be a decent style for the beer. Bottle
3.7 bottle enjoyed in an hotel room. poured into a glass, yes that’s right a hotel glass. pours the part but with a head that completely disappears. some oak and vanilla, cocoa. Full body but with a velvet feel.
3.4 355ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Pours dark brown with a short-lived thin tan head. Aromas of soy sauce, vanilla. Taste is more soy, oak, chocolate. Roasted bitter finish.
2.3 Bottle thanks to Klimaet. Pours a dark brown, almost black. Clear with a fizzy, tan head. Aroma has chocolate malts, vanilla, roasted malts, light oak, some toffee. Taste is watery, sweet, milk chcolate, light artificial vanilla and a tiny roasty bitter finish. Watery body and a rather fizzy carbonation. Tastes like cheapness...

3.2 A decent stout, not overly complex but very easy to drink. The oak is not very pronounced, can’t really tell it’s there at all.
3.5 Aroma: toasted malts, chocolate, liquorice, vanilla, dark fruits. Appearance: very dark brown, medium, frothy, beige head. Taste: light sweet. Palate: toasted malts with chocolaty flavours continue, prunes, vanilla, maybe a touch of wood. Overall: nice Stout, could maybe a bit more intense on the barrel ageing, yet very nice and decently complex. Bottle at the Lockhart, Marylebone.

3.4 Bottle into pint glass at Dulles airport. Aroma is almost antiseptic which makes me think the glass was not properly rinsed. Some vanilla chocolate hints. Taste roasted w some vanilla softening. Not overly strong vanilla which is good. Dry, smooth. Solid stout. Not sure why I have not tried and reviewed sooner. Need to try again at home where I can control glass cleanliness.
3.6 Bottle. Black with a small head. Malty with a trace of liquorice and chocolate. Not quite as good as I expected. Felt that it was as experimental beer that didn’t quite hit the target.
3.5 bottle - Pours very dark brown with a small tan head. The aroma is of dark roast malt and chocolate. It tastes of very dark roasted/toasted malt with chocolate, mild oak, and a hint of vanilla. Medium to full bodied, it’s a pretty good brew.
