3.1 355ml bottle, trade with Skinnyviking. Spotty lacing from a slowly declining beige head. Clear dark brown coloured body. Sweet caramel aroma, slightly roasted. Rather sweet flavours of brown and black malts, chocolate and cocoa to the fore. Smooth ending. Tasty, gets a tad too sweet after a few sips (shared with Finn, Tromsø 08.04.2015).
3.1 Flaske 355ml spandert av Rune og delt med ham på Rundvannet 8 Apr 15. Ultramørk amber. Eg. svart. Kremaktig skum. Aroma av karamell & krydder. Behagelig smak. Mye sukkertøy.
4.3 Aroma: malts, rye, herbs Appearance: clear, deep ruby-brown, thick tan head, Taste: medium sweetness, lightly bitter, Palate: full body, creamy, average carbonation, long finish,
3.7 Very good Baltic. Great aroma, especially when warming. Nothing special in color, but flavor was thick and it coats the mouth. I can have one due to the rich nature. Had in 12 oz bottle
3.5 Some dark chocolate and light roast. Decently balanced, but very light on palate and overall aroma. Easy to drink but not a huge explosion of taste. Pours black with good mocha head and lacing. Finishes with light sweetness and some bitterness. Thick consistency. Bottle.
3.1 Aroma of malt with a hint of coffee, pours a dark brown with a well laced tan head. Taste of chocolate and malt with a sweet finish and a full bodied feel.
3.2 bottled - nice dark color. Chocolatey aroma and flavor. Alcohol taste in the finish. Not bad.
3.2 Shared 355 ml bottle at local tasting. Dark brown colour, moderate beige head. Caramel and chocolate in the aroma. Medium sweet flavour, plenty of caramel, also some chocolate, the roasty notes are very moderate. Fair enough.
3.5 Shared bottle at local tasting. Pours clear dark ruby with a small creamy beige head. Lovely dark malty aroma. Taste is distinct malty, not sweet at all, just thick malty with liquorice notes at the weak dry lingering roasty finish. Lovely beer.
3.1 Shared bottle at RB/HD 07.02.15. Very dark copper. Brown head. Fine, but moderate, aroma of dark chocolate and porter, with just the slightest hint of peat. Similar taste. Round mouthfeel. Good drinkability.
3.1 Shared bottle at RBHD Bjørnøy February 2015. Clear deep mahogany colored body with a light brown film. Wooden, roasted notes, dates on the nose. Smokey, pungent caramel, sweet and light acetonic. Full bodied.
Smud! Og særdeles lett å helle inn over drøvelen.
2.9 Bottle. Dark w decent head. Not much aroma. Lightly sweet. Mild slightly watery porter. Not as much flavor as I would expect from a Baltic porter.
3.5 Rich malt aroma with notes of toast and licorice. Clear dark reddish brown appearance with a tan head with good retention. Flavor is malt forward, but is one dimensional with hints of toast. No hop flavor with medium bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium high with medium carbonation. Overall, it's a decent Baltic porter, could be more complex.
2.9 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. A: Pours a dark brown color - it’s pretty light for the style. The head is about a finger high with a khaki shade. It retains decently and leaves a nice ring of lacing on the glass. S: This doesn’t bring a significant amount of the notes I look for in the style, like chocolate or dark fruit. Rather, the fruit notes here are pretty light (light as in, closer to peaches than, say, raisins), the malts seem more akin to brown sugar or caramel (but there are chocolate notes) and the lager yeast is rather evident. As a Baltic porter, it’s closer to a big dark lager than the lagered imperial stout most in the style are wont to become. Still, the aroma works fine enough. T: It’s not very chocolaty; rather, its initial caramel character is more akin to a bock. There’s a slight hoppy touch on the finish resembling mint, or even tobacco. The lager ’bite’ is also rather prevalent, and I swear there’s a touch of cereal grain floating around. Every once in a while I get hints of chocolate and dark fruits - this is probably the highlight of the brew. Seems rather boozy for 6.8%, though. M: The feel is surprisingly lush and full. This comes at the price of an overly heavy finish, so it’s not ’chuggable’ in that respect. Carbonation remains on the back burner, making it seem even more sweet. O: Not my favorite interpretation of the style, but not terrible. As a BOCK, though, it’s actually pretty killer. Since I’m not much of a bock fan, this one ends up being merely okay to my frazzled taste buds.
3.3 Poured from a bottle. Pours hazy dark coffee brown. Aroma of malt and fruit. Bitter, roasty flavors with notes of malt. Good beer, would prefer it a bit thicker though.
3.7 Bottled. Nice malty backbone to this one. Chocolate is strong and a hearty finish. Good beer.
3.2 12oz bottle from Lacey Spirits. Poured a dark brown/almost black color with a finger of creamy light tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, earth, and hints of plastic. Taste of bitter roasted malts, earth, bad chocolate, hints of caramel, and sour coffee.
3.0 Flaske. Brun klar øl med et lille skumhoved. Duften er sødlig maltet. Smagen er også meget sødlig maltet med en lille sur note til sidst. Bliver reddet af en lang bitterhed til sidst.
3.3 Bottle, 6.8%. Bready aroma. Cloudy dark red brown colour. Big stable off-white head. The flavour is bready and sweetish with a mildly roasted note. Fruity and unclean, but not unpleasant at all.
3.3 Clear, dark red brown. Huge, frothy, light tan head. Roasted malt and coffee notes. Flavour has coffee and milk chocolate.
3.4 Bottle. Pours hazy dark coffee brown with airy ligt tan head. Clear aroma of malt and fruit, with notes of roast. Bitter, roasty flavour, with notes of malt and caramel and touches of yeast and hops. Hints of metal. Roasty and sweetish aftertaste. Not bad.
3.0 Bottle at home. Low but lasting fluffy lighyt brown head. Very dark, almost black, brown body. Solid roasted malt coffee liquorice aroma. Pleasant smooth and a bit sweet roasted malt coffee flavor. Low carbonation. Short finish.
3.0 Bottle.Dark brown colour with medium beige head.Aroma is rosted and malty with taste of coffee and roasted malt, medium body and some carbonation, smooth and malty finish.
2.9 Bottle @ weekly tasting shared with Dutchdrebus and Ansjelaah. Light brown head on top of an almost black colored beer. Smell and taste malts, a bit sweetish in the beginning with a more bitter finish. Decent, but expected more.
3.3 Bottle @dutchdrebus with benzai. Dark brown color with a off-white head. Smells and tastes roasted malts, caramel, coffee.
3.7 Bottle @ home. Pitch black with a medium sized off-white to light brown head. Smells iron, liquorice, roasty, dark malts. Tastes dark malts, some liquorice, slightly roasty and slightly chocolate. Medium body, soft carbo.
3.1 One of several dark beers I sampled at a Dominion tasting in DC. This was the least impressive. Waterier than the others with a middle of the road quality to its coffee and chocolate backbone.
3.4 Draught at Ørsted, Copenhagen Black color, small head. Mild aroma. The maltiness comes out quite well, with light residual sweetness and light roasted malt presence; it should be less carbonated; correct bitterness; warming feeling despite the low alcohol. Nice.
3.2 Bottle. red dark brown colour with a beige head. Aroma is caramel, roasted malt, coffee, chocolate. Flavour is caramel, roasted malt, coffee, chocolate. Medium body. OK beer.
