The “IRA”, as it’s known around here, marries a ruby red color and rich body with the hop flavors of an IPA. Our unique ale yeast strain adds a delicious layer of complexity. One of the first beers we made, and an enduring favorite. Brewed with Gambrinus Organic Pilsner malt, imported crystal malt, Simcoe and Brewers’ Gold hops. 6.5% ABV, 60 BU

3.5Clearly this is better than their hop lava offering i had yesterday. Still has a grainy, seeded crust aroma and taste to go along with sweet orange, lime, ... man, the citrus is very nice. Creamy feel, solid head retention. Lengthy bitterness that gives way to a peppery spice that lingers for quite a while. The bitterness actually rules all on this one. Sure, the pine hits hard with a stinging attack but the bitterness rises above all. Rich mix of flavours wassssss more prevalent early on. What it lacks in depth it gains in pain. I crushed this.
3.5Aroma is spices, honey, caramel, pinecone, earthiness, and clove. Taste is your expected rye spiciness with a good balance of caramel and toasted grain. The hop profile is deep and potent but not overwhelming. Finishes spicy with some earthy aftertaste. Appearance is a cloudy amber with a medium pearl head that retains fairly well.
3.4Bottle a amber colored beer with a white head aroma malts spicy citrus fruits yeast and hops flavor malts spicy citrus fruits pineapple and a bitter hoppy aftertaste
3.5Bottle thanks to Lectvay. Pours reddish dark orange with large foamy beuge head, faint malt aroma, medium carbonation, slightly bitter hoppy caramel taste, full body, abrupt finish with caramel aftertaste.
3.2Deep amber pour, with decent head. Aromas of caramel, toffee, burnt sugar and roasted nuts. The taste is what you’d expect from the smell, with caramel slightly overwhelming, followed by roasted pecans, almonds and a very mild bitterness.Too sweet for my taste, but a decent brew for what it’s worth. Not sure this is an American IPA, though - it tastes more like a brown ale.
3.4500 ml bottle
Part of a larger tasting, this "IRA" tilted the tables in a direction that seems more favorable for Double Mountain. While plenty of better IPAs exist it at least attempts to carve out its own niche instead of just going the route of "more extreme".
Aroma / Appearance - The reddish brown core shimmers despite absorbing most of the ambient light. A yellowish white head adds nice contrast. Caramel, citrus, and fresh malts meld into a focused but uninspiring profile that gets the message across in only a few seconds.
Flavor / Palate - Citrus and caramel center a passable IPA with a blend of East Coast and West Coast influences. Rather than just blasting one with bitterness it starts subtlety. A clean finish flows lazily to a balanced aftertaste of bright hops and citrus. This is your textbook "local IPA" that targets itself at those who want to buy local.
3.5Bottle from Geers. Red/brown colour, beige foam. Medium carbonation. Sweet nose of caramel, tropical fruit. Light bitter hoppy finish. Light notes of cardboard. Sweet and malty. Almost one year old. Too old maybe.
3.316/X/15 - 50cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker) @ home - BB: n/a, bottled: XII/23/14 (although it only hit the shelves somewhere this summer) (2015-1482) Thanks to Erwin for sharing the bottle!
Clear red beer, creamy irregular beige head, little stable, bit adhesive, leaving some lacing in the glass. Aroma: sourish, bit fruity, red berries. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: sweet start, malty, caramel, bit fruity, bitter, sourish touch. Aftertaste: hoppy, malty, caramel, banana, fruity finish. Not sure what to make of this. Probably age has hit it hard.
4.0(En fût à The Local Peasant): Des oranges confites et du thé noir dans un corps céréalier et moelleux. Tout est très propre, l’amertume confortable.
3.127th September 2015
post Borefts train to Amsterdam. Hazy deep amber beer, good cream colour head. Palate is airy and semi dry, decent fine carbonation. Caramel malts, slightly oxidised tasting. Tea. Mild floral bitterness. Overripe fruits. Airy finish. Mild bitter linger. Okay but tastes a little tired.
3.2Thanks to Erwin! 500 ml. bottle sampled @ “Tim’s orgasmic Trillium tasting”. Bottled on 23/12/14. Okay so apparently this beer supports “The Cause”, I will refrain from commenting upon the “political choices” of this brewery and as such I will limit myself to only the taste etc. of the beer. Hazy amber, creamy off-white head. Nose is floral, yeasty, sugary, sweetish, fruity in an obvious ravaged by age IPA kind of way, floral, more sugar. Taste is thinned out IPA, exposing the base, sugary, faintly herbal, malty, brown sugar ,caramel, lightly floral,… Sweetish, thin, faded hops. Thinned out older IPA body. Obviously too old to properly judge. Distribution might be potentially to blame here since the guy who brought this apparently purchased this rather recently.
3.4Bottle at tderoeck's place. Very yeasty, malty smell, sweet, light bitter but I'm missing exotic fruits.
3.4Bottle from Safeway. Murky brownish amber in color. Huge billowing head. Hoppy up front with a bit of citrus. Somewhat off smelling nose. Possibly the reason for the big foam. A little spicy in favor as well. Almost has a Belgian quality to it. Pretty tasty.
3.8500 ml bottle- Pours hazy autumn orange with a nice dense off white head that sticks around. Aroma is bready rye, some hops, caramel malts, subdued. Taste is caramel malts, rye bread, spicy hops, resinous and hop forward. I really am enjoying this, really digging on the IRA’s lately, and this is one of the better ones.
3.7Bottle at home. Hazy orange pour, thin white head. Aroma of grainy malts, spicy hops, some caramel, fruity, a hint of sugars and some honey. Flavor is quite bitter, Czech pilsener, some fruity hops and sweet caramel malts. Nice body, nice balance. Very well drinkable.
3.650 cl bottle @ home. Aroma has reson, sweet fruitiness, some vanilla and caramel. Flavour has resin, biscuity malt and grapefruit. Also some mild and weird plastic off-flavour. Finishes with hayish grain and malt. Nice, I like the resin here.
3.4Draft pour at Frankies pizza. Pours an oily amber color with a lasting thick head. Hop forward flavor and aroma. Finishes cool and bready. Well balanced. Not a major standoutfor me, but good beer overall.
3.3Draught @ the 7th Ave Pub, San Diego, CA. Pours a dark red colour with a small foamy head. Aroma of toasted malts, some nuttiness and bread. Flavour of grainy malts, bread, harsh bitterness and some red berries. Medium bodied. Pretty decent.
3.4Many thanks to Beerhunter111 for sharing! The nose is fresh floral. The beer itself starts great fresh hopped with a smooth and sweetish body. Hints of caramel, nuts, fresh and "red" malt. Sweetish-round, nice bittered with lots of fresh floral piney hoppy. The hops take away a bit the sweetness of that brew. Nice! But just at the boarder of being too sweet.
3.7Trübes bernsteinfarbenes Bier mit einer ordentlichen leicht beigen Schaumkrone. Geruch sehr malzig, harzig, reife Früchte, kräftig hopfig. Geschmack sehr hopfig, reife Früchte, harzig, kratzig bitterer Abgang.
3.3Aroma of malt, caramel, pine, earthy, fruits, hops. Flavour is moderate sweet with a moderate bitter finish. Muted, earthy and malty Red IPA.
3.7Quite stable yellow head, some lace, over hazy amber-orange beer. Hopoils galore, exotic fruit on cake bottom, sweet pine. Very dry, woody, tannine-like flavour. Resin, but little typical hopcharacter. Warming up, pineapple. Special! Bonedry MF, despite good carbonation; quite slick and decent body. This is a rather unique one, pretty special, and hence double welcome!
3.5Tap A: Semi - transparent red with a thin drifting white head.N: Pine, cracker, damp leaves, grapefruit, lots of grass and earth. Peppercorn and coriander.T: Balanced between a noticeable bitterness and hearty malt.M: Medium body, light resin, touch of alcohol burn, prickly carbonation.O: Solid double red. Much better than Ninkasi Believer. Bit of a bite but not in a bad way.

3.3Bottle shared thanks to Deanso. Pours hazy amber with a tan head. Aroma of malt, rye, caramel malt and light fruity hops. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with light carbonation.
