Dragonmead Final Absolution Belgian Style Trippel

Dragonmead Final Absolution Belgian Style Trippel

This is the ultimate Belgian style. The very high gravity of this beer is balanced by the smoothness of its finish. Banana and Clove aromas come from the Belgian yeast strain combining with the generous dose of Belgian Candi Sugar. The Saaz hops help to give this beer a balanced bitterness with no noticeable hop aroma.

3.6 Tap. Clear yellow with a small white head that lasts in a ring with some lacing. Aromas of banana, clove, spice, yeast and some light funk. Flavor is banana, clove, light spice, and caramel. Medium plus body, smooth with a dry end. Slightly warm end.
2.8 Guest tap at the Detroit airport Gordon Biersch. poured a hazy orange accented gold, very little head. Aroma of thick pale malts, orange marmalade, some Belgian yeast spiciness. Flavor was a match. Felt thick on the palate, definitely a good bit of sweetness residing. Needed hops to cut this down, or more yeast spice, either one. This aspect was also really hurt by the very low carbonation level - a higher level (much more in keeping with the base style) would have helped cut through things a bit as well. As it was, it came across as the usual American train wreck you hit with this style. Too bad, I had wanted to like this.
3.4 Aromas have hints of spice - clove - some slightly fruity flavors - a touch of orange. Hops are very subdued. The beer color is an attractive cloudy, light orange. The head is slight and off-white. Sweetness dominates the taste; very little bitterness. Body is a bit on the light side of medium; texture is slick and a touch sticky, probable due to the candi sugar. Carbonation is average to just slightly soft; the finish is sweet, slightly bready and a bit carbonated. I like the spicy yeast flavors and the fruity aromas. However the sweetness needs something to balance it - hops or carbonation.
3.4 Wow wow! Great aroma and nice taste too. Astoundingly good. Can't taste the high alcohol content.
3.8 Pour on tap at the brewery, slightly hazy golden pour with white head, aroma brought notes of biscuit, cracker, some orange, pear, and peach notes, nice banana and clove into a bit of white grape, some nice yeasty and doughy spice notes as well. Taste is a mix of cracker, dough, bread into some sweet white fruit with peach, pear, orange, some white grape, nice clove and coriander, finishing slightly sweet, slightly bitter.
3.3 Bottle. Poured a clear gold but settled a opaque gold with a solid half finger, white head. Heavy carbon release. Light bread aroma with a touch of citrus. Wonderful, complex flavours. Very hoppy, and sweet but not over powering. Moderate lacing. Long lasting finish. A bit heavy on the alcohol but not noticeable. Very nice.
3.3 Amber colored pour. No head. No lacing. Aroma of pear and honey. Taste is apple and honey.
3.3 Bottle. Pours golden. This was a gusher. had to pour very slowly after dumping a little just to keep the head from going crazy. Apparently this one was a bit off. My hunch is that it was pretty old. Good spicy aroma. Flavors of bananas, bubblegum, & cloves. Pretty classic trippel. Body was a little syrupy. Missing the sweet mouthfeel I was expecting. I’m giving this the benefit of the doubt. I’ll keep an open mind however and will re rate when I get the chance
4.1 Transfer from BA review on 4-24-14- Served on tap in a chalice glass Appearance – The beer is served a lightly hazed orange-yellow color with a small head of white foam. The head fades quite quickly leaving only a light level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma is that as may be expected for a triple. The strongest smell is that of some bubblegum and banana mixed with some aromas of a spice nature. The spice is heaviest of a clove smell but contains other aromas of some lemongrass and coriander as well. Along with these smells comes some light biscuit smells as well as some other aromas of a candied sugar and yeast cake smell. Overall it is on the sweeter side but delicious, hiding any boozy aromas quite well. Taste – The taste begins quite sweet upfront with lots of candied sugar and fruit of banana, orange, and pear. From the start there are also some more doughy like flavors that create a base for the sweeter flavors to rest upon. Quickly some flavors of yeast and spice come to the tongue, bringing some degree of balance to the sweet. The spice is quite heavy of clove, coriander and some pepper with it really giving a nice bite to the beer. With the addition of the yeast and spice, so too comes some more biscuit like flavors in replacement of some of the doughy flavors, and with that transition there is also a nice increase in the candied sugar flavors as well as a nice bubblegum flavor. With a bit more banana and some grass coming to the tongue at the very end of the taste, one is left with a sweet but quite pleasant and enjoyable Belgian triple flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the slightly thinner side with a carbonation level that is on the slightly higher side. The combination of the two is very nice for the yeasty, spicy and fruity flavors of the brew, making for a rather nice easy drinking triple. Overall – Overall a very tasty and quite nice drinking tripe that, while a bit on the sweeter side, was very balanced and smooth. Quite delicious and well worth a try if you get the chance.
3.6 Julie says nice tripel yeast and malt but is too hoppy Julie gives a 2.0
3.1 Poor is golden with a thin white had small amount of lacing. Lots of banana bubblegum and hints of peach in this beer. similar to most Belgium's in flavor flavor hides the alcohol very well you definitely cannot tell you were drinking a 10% beer until you stand up. Decent beer in a style I'm not crazy about.
4.0 Bright golden pour with a white head. Aroma is sweet malt, banana, bubblegum, and a touch of clove. Flavor is similar, very sweet and drinkable. No trace of the 10% abv either. Very respectable.
3.4 Bottle brought back from MI- pours clear golden, bright white head that fades. Nose of bubblegum, banana, vanilla, and some hay. Subdued mouthfeel. Creamy, sweet, with traditional tripel notes. Better US interpretation than most. Quite drinkable
2.8 From old notes, tasted with Curtis and some friends in Nashville, probably some time near the summer of 2012, from a bottle. Pours cloudy pale yellow with a thick white head that leaves thick lace. The nose is bready, vegetal with asparagus, some spicy Belgian yeast. The flavor is more focused on the spice with the same nice bread malt, and just a touch of the vegetal note on the back. The body is full with average, smooth carbonation and a long spicy yeast finish.
3.0 Draft - Banana, clove and stone fruits. Clear gold with a thin white head. Sweet bubblegum and estery yeast. Pretty basic.
3.4 pours cloudy almost dirty yellow-greyish with a small white cap, no retention really. sweet honeyed cereals, partially fermented, white grape juice - some wort, lightly sourish pale yellow fruits, belgian yeast - nice fruity and spicy-woodsy esters, sweetish vanilla perhaps, flowery and grassy, lemon iced tea, lot of honey and booze. average carbonation, medium body - oily and sticky, boozy and very lightly tart grassy-peppery finish. ok.
3.0 We were not a fan of this one. Amber in glass. Fruity aroma. Tastes like bananas and bubblegum. A bit too sweet.
3.6 Bottle. Pours crystal clear orange, small off-white head, dissipates slowly, nice lacing. Aroma is yeast, hay, pepper, clove banana, lemon zest. Flavor is light plus sweet, very spicy, zesty, peppery, light zesty bitterness. Lighish body, medium soft carbonation.
3.7 Pours a hazy golden color. Aroma and taste are bananas, spices, yeast and has a sweet finish.
3.3 Hazy light golden-amber with a decent head. Fruity, with hints of apricot nectar and light spicing. Lightly sweet, but faintly bitter aftertaste. Near medium body with medium, soft carbonation Moderate complexity. O: very good American version.
2.9 Not a favorite, but I have a feeling that is because the flavors were so complex. Probably too much for my unsophisticated palate. First taste was somewhat not good, but did end up enjoying it by the end of the glass.
4.1 Very tasty, a little overly sweet though. If you like a strong ale with only subtle hopped up bitterness, this is worth a shot.
4.2 From bottle. Pours a hazy golden color with a thin fine-textured head. Aroma of bananas and cloves. Smooth flavor, sweet, bananas, cloves, very little hops. A fine tripel and worth seeking out again.
3.5 On tap poured into a snifter. Plenty of aromas on this one, including caramel, banana, clove, candi sugar, honey, and raisin. Overall it’s fairly pleasant, but i had to knock it a couple points for prevalent the vodka alcohol aroma that comes through - other tripels do a better job of hiding this alcohol note. The beer is a clear, effervescent yellow-gold color with a thin white ring that remains for the head. Not much lacing with this beer either. It’s a medium-high sticky sweet beer with a nice light bitter to support it - arguably a great dessert beer. The medium full, syrupy sweet body has lots of soft carbonation, and has a chewy, sticky texture. The finish is a syrupy honey sweetness with a touch of pine and resin. It’s a very clean aftertaste with maybe an ever-so-slight astringency that lingers in the mouth.
4.7 Dingeman’s 2-Row Pilsen Malt ,1 lb. of light candi sugar per 5 gallons. WLP500 yeast provides nice fruitiness. Light saaz hops. The finest example of an American Tripel and one of my favorite all-time beers. Bill, Earl and company do a great job at Dragon mead.
3.4 True to style. Syrupy sweet with malt finish. Bright grapefruit lead with raisany finish. Good. Tap.
4.0 Pours a hazy shade above straw gold with the finest suspended sediment and an eggshell head that settles to a thick ring and leaves some fine spotty lace. Nose involves deep spice, candy sugar, some citrus, maybe some pear, and some hearty toasted bread. Fairly sweet, a bit tart, some bitterness. Bigger bodied, a touch syrupy, somewhat oily, fair action, with a lingering spicy yeasty finish. Very nice brew, lots to ruminate over and savor. Bottled 9-9-13 if I’m reading the barely noticeable code right.
4.4 My favorite beer. It has citrus, floral, banana, and bubblegum notes in the aroma, with a golden color and minimal head and minimal lacing as you drink. The taste is strong but not overwhelming, the alcohol is a fairly high content but almost unnoticeable as you drink, with the citrus and banana notes making their way first through your tastebuds, and a clean finish afterwards.
3.8 My old standby! Pours a delicious golden color with a medium head that dissipates. Smells of banana, citrus, sugar and malts. Taste is sweet with some fruits, malts, brown sugar, and a malty aftertaste. Palate is a little less deep with mostly banana, sugar and a hint of malt. Sugar, and ABV can sometimes be a little intense. Great tripel to have in the summer sun.
3.6 Enjoyed this as it was different. The aroma had a faint sweetness and Belgian yeast. The color was a dark golden with a minimal head. The palate was full and heavier than most tripels. The carbonation was a little lower than expected, which added a particular smoothness. Good strong flavors light grain, some fruit, yeast and a finishing sweetness that made it distinct. Good first impression.
