Drake's Denogginizer

Drake's Denogginizer

Silver Medal winner for Imperial India Pale Ale, Great American Beer Festival 2009. Besides Jolly Roger, this is probably Drake’s most renowned beer. An Imperial (or Double) IPA, Denogginizer is a big bold beer hopped with an abundant amount of Simcoe and Amarillo with a touch of Ahtanum and Chinook. Mashed with Crystal malt and Caramalt for color and flavor to help balance out the hop assault. Denogginizer is also Drake’s most powerful regular offering, at a whopping 10% alcohol by volume!

4.4 平衡很棒,酒精感掩盖很好,略微缺乏亮点
3.8 12oz bottle from Steve's on University in Madison. Bottle date of 3 months ago. Standard IPA pour, very clear. This is very much a classic West Coast IPA. Citrus & pine with a solid caramelly malt base. The nose adds some lemon, and the taste shows evidence of strong dry hopping. Medium bodied, with a bit of an alcohol presence, the blend is good. Finishes slightly to the bitter side of bittersweet. With length. Not too smooth. Nice to have a classic example of a great style. 14.4
5.0 Visited ‘The Barn’ in West Sac and had a couple on tap. Nice color, nice head and imminently drinkable for a DIPA. What’s not to like?
3.7 Clear orange pour at Half Barrel. Nose is grapefruit and booze. Tastes kinda boozy, orangebpeel, grapefruit, hint of pine, caramel, light plastic and herbal. Slick palate. Light bitterness. Finishes sweet and boozy.
4.0 12 fl oz bottle. Poured into an American PA glass, its appearance is a slightly cloudy dull gold, topped with a finger or two of white froth which has moderate retention. Aroma starts off with a burst of fruity, citrus, grapefruit, followed by pine and resin and dankness which dominate for the rest of the drink. Taste again starts off with a burst of fruity citrus sweetness, followed by sharp but short intense piney bitter. Some booze detected, but blends well with the other flavours. Medium to full bodied, rich and smooth.
4.2 Hop aroma with an amber hue. Lager like taste with a rotating from hop to hop variance. Creamy mouthfeel and clean aftertaste. Head trippin' for sure.
4.2 9%ABV. Imperial IPA Tapped out deep gold . 8°SRM. Nose has aromas of pine, cedar, and juniper; spicy with bright citrus hints. I also get hints of bergamot. Sweet ripe citrus. Mouthfeel juicy, watered honey. Palate has flavors of graham cracker pie crusts, caramel, honey, barley toast. Hop flavors are pine resin, cedar oil, with pine needle, spruce bitter. Finish is boozy. Overall, a big imperial IPA. I’ve never known Drake’s to not deliver. This is no exception, no false advertising here. Goes on Favorites List!
4.2 35cl Bottle from Vonk. Clear deep golden colour, white head. Aroma of a classic DIPA, thick, malty, some toffee, citrus, resin, grapefruit, lemon drop. Flavour follows, thick, malty, resin, citrusy hops, lemon, firm bitter finish. Full bodied. Top class.

3.6 Shared with Wim at Hoppe Beer Fest. Blond colored beer with small white head and no carbonation. Hopped floral malty aroma. Full sparkling palate. Finish is malty bitter hopped dry.
3.9 Aroma: Sweet ripe fruits with grapefruit and citrus. Flavour: Fruity sweet and bitter with tangy notes and ripe fruits. Aftertaste is fruity dry. Colour: Orange with a white head. From: Bottle @ Best of beers Aalborg Dec. 2018.

3.9 On tap at the Drakes Dealership. Pours orange. Caramel, orange, grapefruit, toffee, touch of booze. Good body. Classic DIPA.
3.5 On tap at The Royal Exchange, San Francisco on 15-Nov-2018. Clear golden amber with a small white head. Aroma of malt, citrus, tropical fruit and pine. Medium body and carbonation. Taste of malt, caramel, grapefruit, orange and floral pine. A big alcohol buzz with a medium lingering bitterness.
3.9 consistantly good, a go to beer for me,tropical notes, a minerality that's hard to define..Like the name says, itl knock your head off..
4.8 Love this beer. I treated myself to one of these on vacation this year, and it was worth the price. It is dark and hoppy, and has strong hints of cocoa nibs. Not too sweet but great malty flavor
2.7 Strong piney earthy hop aroma with bready and caramel raisin malt character Pours a murky orange amber color with small creamy off white head Sweet malty raisin like flavor with strong piney earthy hop. Full bodied with low co2, lingering sticky sweet and bitter finish. Drinkable but way too sticky sweet in my opinion.
3.4 Tar-forward DIPA with an odd aroma. I wanted to like this and appreciate the alcohol content but lacks a hop pop or palate to claim a high score - especially given the aroma. Bomber from Albertsons in SoCal.
3.3 Bottle @ Beresford Arms, San Francisco. Bottled on 06/05/18 so a good month old. Pours golden with a white head. Aroma of malt, caramel, grass, light spicy hops, fruit. Flavor is sweet, light bitter, malt, caramel, light bread, grass, fruity hops, alcohol. Medium to full body, average carbonation, sweet and light bitter finish with warming alcohol. 140718
3.7 355ml bottle at House of Belgium, Xiamen. Pours clear golden with a white head. Aroma of pine. Sweetish taste. Bitter oily resinous finish.
3.6 Nicely balanced with citrus zest and a hoppy and lightly bitter finish. Not as strong as the alcohol content would lead you to expect.
3.5 355 ml bottle bought at Q Club in SoHo Central. Looks: Cloudy hazy deep amber honey colour with a fine mist of yeast particles; Half finger head with soapy off-white foam which fades in 20 seconds; Very good sticky lacing with near zero carbonation. Aroma: Fragrant and sweet full Ale malt, with amberness, grapefruits, orange, strong caramel, toffee, floral, sugar, spices, strong pine, strong resins, biscuits, yeast, lemon and grass. Taste: Strong sweet Ale malt, with grapefruits, caramel, toffee, floral, sugar, black pepper, strong spices, strong pine, very strong resins, herbs, biscuits, strong lime and strong bitter grassy hops. Body: Full body. Very slick and strong oozy palate. Mouth Feel: Full Ale maltyness in a thick background. Amberish with lots of caramel and toffee. 3C hops dominates with grapefruits, peppery spices and loads and pine and ooze. Flowery with strong sweetness, Herbal biscuity with strong lime to round. Intense! Hoppiness: Grapefruits, orange, floral, spices, strong pine, strong resins, lemon and grass in nose. Black pepper, grapefruits, floral, strong spices, strong pine, strong resins, herbs, strong lime and grass in taste; Bitterness is very strong for a lasting, very high astringent sweet-bitter rich malty finish. After Taste: Fairly dry. Very piney oozy and strong bitter to mouth. Comments: Typical strong-for-strong-sake IIPA, at least there are generous amount of 3Cs (Cascade, Centennial, Chinook) to make its case. Ultra piney oozyness backed by full caramel maltyness. This is heaven for hopheads who craves 3Cs. Not my thing, though.
3.7 Piney-malty nose with some smokiness. Medium-heavy mouth feel with a pleasant oiliness. Nicely-balanced maltiness and sweetness. Finish a bit weak and flavor a bit lacking. Nice Imperial IPA, but not one of the legends.
3.7 0,1l on tap @ Beer 39. Pours clear golden with a medium head. Aroma is sweet malts with some fruits. Flavor is sweet malts, fruits, pine, alcohol, plenty of hops. Very nice.
4.1 Pretty much what kajser said (though his numbers were way way too low) in his review just before mine but still gloriously husky and bitter as you'd expect. Like SN Bigfoot, this is no worse for wear despite being a 13 month + old bottle. Complex, big and spicy at the end. Sufuckingperb.
3.5 Hazy, copper colored, medium creamy, off white head, nice lacing. Aroma is of malt, caramel, orange, floral, orange candy, citrusy moderate hops. Taste is medium sweet malt, caramel, orange hard candy, floral and citrusy hops, orange, medium+ bitterness, dryish finish, bit carob. Medium+ bodied, soft+ carbonation, oily-resiny. Bottle is 13 months old and it shows but still pretty good, will have to redo... (bottle)
3.7 Murky amber-gold pour with a thin off-white head. Passionfruit, peach, pine, citrus with a bit of caramel aroma. Taste is fairly bitter orange and grapefruit, a bit of booze, decent amount of malt, long bitter finish
3.7 Smells nice. Apricot, plum and grain. Taste starts with a strong and deep bitterness. Considering the ABV, it goes down pretty well.
3.7 355 ML bottle from Midway Cellars Bright white head, light orange brown color. Just slightly hazy. Good color to the beer. Head falls to a thin collar. some spotty lacing. Nose is candied citrus, bit of marmalade, grapefruit peel and pine. Almost classic West Coast. Taste is citrus marmalade, lots of oil and resin up front. Candied citrus and classic grapefruit. Just hints of heat and booze. Medium bodied, very lean and clean. Not chewy at all. Hides the AVB well,
4.4 white top with medium body. malty and hoppy aroma. light fruits test and dry finish
