Dubuisson Bush Caractère

Dubuisson Bush Caractère

It was created in 1933 by Alfred Dubuisson, grand-father of the present family brewer, Hugues. Its former name was "Bush Beer 24°" (the density in Ballings), but today it is known as Bush Amber. Its amber colour is due to the use of caramel malt in the production process. Its bitter sweet taste provides it with firmness and personality. What's more, it helps digestion. 24°

3.2 Puissante, caramel, malt, alcool, mousse légère, couleur ambrée Monte vite a la tête, un peu écoeurante
3.8 Butik Trappisten i Hillerød
3.2 Pours clear amber, off-white foam head. Aroma is sweet, malty and promises lots of alcohol. Taste is malty, warm alcohol. Drink slowly. (Velp 2109)
4.4 A long time between Belgian brews for me. Today I am sampling Bush Caractere obtained from a shop in Belgium a few months ago. A 33 cl bottle opened and pour into a Delerium snifter. Amber, lighter than expected, is appropriate for what I see, accompanied by a slender tawny-tan head. The smell is rather appealing, ripe dark fruit, grain and malt. I have a full drink. This is good. Quite good. Red plums, raisins, dates, some yeastiness, malt, whole grain bread and a touch of caramel. I get a full sensation from the beer, something I attribute to the strong abv. Uplifting tasting for this time of year.
4.2 This is a great beer. Dark triple. You don't notice the abv but it is there. Plenty of flavour. I'd buy again.
3.6 Bottle from HoTM. It pours clear deep orangey - amber with thick, fluffy beige head. The aroma is sweet candy action, dolly mixtures, pic & mix, some caramel, toffee cake, bready, perfumed, parma violets, nip of spice and boozy warmth. The taste is firmly dry upfront, earthy, wood, light tannin, spice, grain, cereal, perfumed florals, Parma violets, loads of sugary candy, pic and mix, dolly mixtures, orange peel, boozy kick, plenty of warmth on the back end and resin. Fulsome body and moderate, fluffy carbonation. More to it that I would have given it credit for. Good boost to it. Maybe not so classy, but fun anyhow.
4.2 Raisin plumb and rich dark malt. A fruity freshness fights with the taste of spirit and prevails. Strong ale at its finest. Share with a friend preferably at a campsite with a self slain wilderbeast rotating over the campfire.
3.4 Poured rich brown amber with thin lacing with yeast splotches. Aroma is predominantly roasted malts with some candied fruits. Taste follows the same pattern medium sweet to bitter with not as much heat in the finish as I feared and early connoisseurs noted. Palate is medium bodied oily texture offset by above average carbonation and a grainy finish. Apart from the 12% tag this should be a beer that suits me but it falters enough to make me wonder whether I want all that alcohol this Sunday lunchtime. Maybe not.
3.3 Old rating from 2017 - 330ml bottle brought back from my trip to Belgium. Pours brown with a white foamy head. Aromas & tastes of apples, pears, dark fruits, plums, bread, sugar & alcohol. Medium body. Medicinal bitter finish
3.8 bubblegum
3.5 Clear amber color with large frothy off-white head. Aroma has yeast, caramel, fruits. Taste is fruity with long quite sweet and bitter aftertaste. Flavors of citrus, caramel, grapefruit, resin, dark fruits and some alcohol warmth.
2.1 5oz pour at Max's Brussels Fest 2021, pours is a clear amber with a ring of white head. Nose is quite mild, surprising given everything happening, malt, candy, some vinous notes... otherwise very muted. Flavor is all sweetness, candy, caramel, butterscotch, over ripe fruit, tough. Finishes full bodied.
3.9 Zwaar bierke, anders dan de rest. Zeker nog drinken
3.4 330ml bottle, sampled Jan 2017, as Bush Ambree. This is never a Belgian Ale - Strong Dark surely, unless I'm colour blind. Pours golden amber with a white head. Aroma: sweet malts, apricot, orange pith, Belgian yeast, candy sugar. Taste: moderate to heavy sweet & light bitter, sweet stone fruits, dried fruits, light honey, toffee. Medium body with high carbonation.
3.8 Pours clear amber with a white long lasting head. Nose on old school bubblegum, caramel malt. Medium body with notes of candi, dried fruits, toffee. Sweetness is spot on, not overdone. Again, a nice one from Dubuisson. A pity I didn’t explore the Bush beers earlier, but better late than never, I guess.
3.0 Bottle from House Of Trembling Madness. Clear golden body with a thin white head. Lively carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of honey, earth and marmalade. Flavour of orange zest and a hint of vinegar. Medium body with a chewy mouthfeel. Soft fizz. Hot and boozy.
3.8 Bevuta in bottiglia. Birra ambrata ad alta gradazione. Molto corposa. Leggero dolce finale. Ben equilibrata.
4.7 0.33 bottle. /a hab ujjnyi mennyiségben megmarad/. Utóízben frissebb, citrusos gyümölcsök is érződnek, amúgy konyakos, mazsolás, telt, finom.
3.9 Bottle online from Beerhouseshop.be. Pours a hazy amber colour with a medium sized throthy white head. Aromas of dry fruits, caramel, bread and spice. Taste has more notes of caramel, spice, brown bread, raisins, some added honey and a warming finish. Just a little brown sugar on the finish. Alcohol is extremely well hidden for a 12% beer. Full body, average carbonation and a smooth slightly oily mouthfeel. Very nice beer for the strength, nicely balanced, not too cloying or overly sweet which I like.
4.3 Amber colour, thin head and lightly carbonated. Palette with notes of raisins, coriander, toasted bread and toffee. Tastes of the same items, with a perfect balance and a slight note of alcohol. A perfect Christmas beer to be enjoyed in a silent moment.
