DuClaw Dirty Little Freak

DuClaw Dirty Little Freak

A dominant blend of roasted malt, coconut, caramel, and chocolate essences, barely restrained by a gentle hop bite, that tantalizes your senses all the way through to a satisfying finish. Submit to the indulgence, but be warned…there is no safe word!

4.8 The coconut makes for a very different taste, but is surprisingly good! Roasted tastes & aroma. Enjoyed this.
3.6 Part 2 of what has coincidentally turned into Maryland beer night. Very dark brown with a creamy light beige head. Aroma full of milk chocolate and coconut. Taste is mildly sweet, burnt tropical, full of coconut, coffee and roasted caramel. Medium body with mild carbonation. Light stickiness. The coconut works nicely here. Pretty good.
0.7 Horrible! Chilling with in law decide to give this a shot. First taste you get strong rubbing alcohol taste followed by sweet vanilla then bitter chocolate.
3.3 12 oz. bottle poured into a glass yields a deep reddish brown body with a thin (nearly non-existent) head of tan foam. The aroma showcases coconut and caramel sweetness. The mouthfeel is somewhat thin with little carbonation. The taste is fairly sweet with little hop bitterness. Coconut, caramel, and a little coffee are the predominant flavors. Overall, this is decently fun beer.
3.6 5/10/19 With A & Littles watching new Jumanji Poured from bottle. Deep brown with a monstrous dense foamy head. Had to pour very slowly. Nose is malty coffee and “beer-y” sweetness. Taste is roasty malts and bready sweetness. Good combo of porter and lager flavors. Palate is med w/ good crispness. Quite drinkable. Overall, a very tasty brown ale with good vanilla-porter and bready-lager notes.
3.7 Pretty up front coconut and chocolate notes. Some caramel, mild hopping, not spicy or peppery, not bitter but not overly sweet. Easily chuggable!
3.2 Bottle - 120z. Pours a dark brown, carbonated body with a fading, off-white bubbly head. Good malty aroma with chocolate, caramel, and coconut hints. Taste carries coconut, chocolate, woody, and roasty notes. Ends with a decent sweet/roasty finish. Not bad.
3.7 Clear, medium copper, billowing but short lived tan head. Nice and delicate aroma. Full body, intense flavor, coconut more in the texture than in the flavor, despite low heat mouthfeel is very pleasant, lingering palate, tasty finish. Sweet but well balanced, refreshing acidity, enough bitterness to hold the sweetness. Overwhelmingly chocolate flavor, coffee, not very natural or complex, malty, hoppy in the background, particularly at the finish. Perhaps a porter in disguise.
4.5 Coconut, vanilla, chocolate. The word that comes up a lot is "interesting." Certainly worth trying or ordering in lieu of a staple.
3.4 Pours dark brown and smells very malty with chocolate, caramel, and coconut. It tastes sweet and malty. I noticed more chocolate than anything though the coconut is in there too. Medium bodied. There's enough hops to keep it from being a sugar bomb. Pretty tasty.
3.4 12 oz bottle. Dark brown with a short while head. Some suspended solid. Aroma is coconut, chocolate, and roasty malts. Similar taste with cola and straw. Medium body
3.2 Dark brown color with tan foam. Aroma of toasted coconut. Sweet coconut dessert taste and lighter body than many dark beers.
3.6 Draft at Sanford Brewing. Pours hazy brown color with tan head. Aromas of roasted malt, chocolate, and coconut. Similar flavors. Medium body with average carbonation.
3.4 Draft to taster at The Pint Room. Looks decent; a fairly transparent darker amberish brown with thin off-white lacing. Smells and tastes malty with a nice balance of chocolate and coconut. A bit of caramel on the tongue as well. Mouthfeel is medium light-bodied and finishes with a touch of toast and bitterness. Solid.
3.5 Coconut in beer or food can be hit or miss for me, but this one works. Aroma is kind of strong of coconut, which was a little worrisome. Flavor also has a decent amount of coconut, but enough chocolate and caramel malts to balance out. Good amount of hops to offset the sweetness. So far, these dark DuClaw beers that I sampled are nice year-round brews.
2.8 Pours a cola color with ruby highlights. Very thin slightly tan head. Malty with hints of tobacco. Malty coconut and hints of pipe tobacco.
3.4 Bottle from Appalachian Vintner, and lets be honest here, we both know I bought this because of the name. I mean, its a pretty decent beer, but that's not why I bought it.
2.0 (choco (ad), > cacahuète, bouche idem, rétro vomi, trop "gourmandise pour gosse », 3-4€ pour n’importe quoi)
3.1 Bottle from Total Wine in Daytona Beach. Mahogany pour with a wispy head. Cocoa powder, caramel, vanilla - but it all seems pretty artificial. Not a great beer.
Nice.
3.6 Gosh, I have mixed feelings about this one. I don't normally like coconut in beer, but when it works, it really does seem nice, but then, I think it's not something I would want to drink very often, or even again. DuClaw really hit it with this one, but still in the end I guess it's just not my thing. I'll try and find a middle ground in my rating, to acknowledge their success vs my opinion. Dark brown, pretty close to opaque, darker than any brown ale I've ever had! Nose is rich with chocolate and coconut, and some roasted malt. Flavor very similar. In a way, reminds me of a mounds bar. Medium bodied.
3.7 Bottle: Poured a brown with clearing edges. Aroma is vanilla and malt. Taste is very vanilla with chocolate malty.
4.0 I've enjoyed this more than once. The mere fact that I've gone back for more indicates that its different. The bouquet comes immediately, then the unmistakable presence of coconut and underlying vanilla, masterful. Hints of chocolate and unidentifiable spices round out the body. At the end the coconut and vanilla still dominate the palate in the most satisfying manner. Its designated a brown ale but to me its a porter. I've found that drinking just one at a sitting is a mistake. Delightful brew!

4.6 I love this beer!!! I love the name! Other people have noted tastes of vanilla and coconut. That may be true, since they are probably younger than me and have better taste buds. (Your taste buds go bye-bye when you get older.) Anywho, this beer tasted of roasted malt and chocolate. It was delicious and is now my favorite beer of the moment. It does seem more like a porter rather than a brown ale. I'm not sure what the difference is between the two, but I've never had a brown ale with a chocolate flavor. This beer is some good stuff!
3.6 12oz bottle at home brought home from Florida. Poured clear dark brown with tan head. Nose is coconut and cocoa. Taste is chocolate coconut dark malt. More a porter than a brown ale.
4.1 [9351-20170630] 12floz bottle. Sweet chocolate roasted aroma. Black body with a medium-lasting foamy tan head and some lacing. Roasted sweet coconut vanilla and rich dark chocolate flavour. Full body. Delicious. (8/4/9/4/16) 4.1
3.9 Pours dark brown tan head. Aroma is caramel, vanilla, cocoa. Taste is sweet, toasty, vanilla, cola, cocoa hints. Richly carbonated creamy mouthfeel. Very pleasant.
3.7 2017-06-30. Very dark brown body, good size frothy tan head. Aroma has lightly earthy vanilla and cocoa character. Coconut escapes my definition at first but is obvious after reading the label. Flavour is interesting, sort of vanilla and cocoa, lightly toasty sweetish dark malt malt. Notes of coconut. 7+ Smooth average bodied palate, good carbonation. Tasty. 7/4/7/3/16 Bottle from Trackside Liquor, Medicine Hat, AB.
