DuClaw Hellrazer

DuClaw Hellrazer

A medium-bodied, golden IPA that gets in your face from first sweet sip to crisp, dry finish with the exotic tropical fruit flavors and aromas of New Zealand Motueka hops. With just enough malt character to keep the aggressive hop presence in check, and an unruly 7.5% abv, this brew was seemingly born to kick ass. And RAZE HELL!

3.4 Bottle. Pours a hazy orange amber with a thin off-white head. Aroma was floral with citrus, pine, and caramel. Flavor was hoppy and bitter with caramel, citrus, pine, floral and some bitter grapefruit.
3.2 Bottle poured into a brandy snifter. Pours a hazy copper with a thin, white head of foam. The aroma has musty grapefruit rind. Citric bitterness in the taste. Medium body and medium to high carbonation.
3.2 Pours a hazy copper and not much head present. Aroma of citrus, caramel, and toffee. Taste of grapefruit and sweet malts. Somewhat bitter, but mainly sweet. A little too sweet for my taste as far as IPAs go.
3.5 Hazy copper pour with off-white head. Aroma of toffee and grapefruit. Grainy slightly sweet malt character with lots of grapefruit hop flavors. Plenty of bitterness in the finish. Sweet citrus linger.
3.3 12 oz bottle. Bottled on 05/29/14. (Mr. Bill’s) Roanoke, VA. Hazy amber golden colour with a small white head. Cookies, sweetness, hops and malt in the aroma. The flavour is sweetness, blood orange, tropical fruits and malt. Quite mellow. This more of a DIPA in flavour. But it’s not razing the hell.
3.6 bottled. Poured more of an orange amber than gold. Strong hop flavors, pretty nice little blend of citrus and some malts peeking through.
3.6 Pours amber w/ a tan head & lacing. The aroma is of citrus & piney hops. The taste is on point & quite drinkable. The 7.5% abv is well hidden as this finishes smooth! A very solid ipa that isn’t too bitter & rather tasty!
3.5 Poured an orange amber, hazy with light carbonation a white head and laceing. Aroma for me was much more malty than hoppy there was a light floral note. Taste was malt a light toffee. I find of sweet in the draw bittering in the finish. I enjoyed it,.
3.6 A very nice, easy to drink, yet potent IPA. I'd definitely have it again if given the opportunity.
3.4 12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured hazy, orange with a nice white head and nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrus fruit, resin from hops and malts. Taste, starts bitter and hoppy and then the fruit and malty notes start to come through. Decent IPA, enjoyable and drinkable; quite nice.
3.2 Pours a nice amber color with a nice foamy head. The aroma you pick up the malt right away with some dark fruit, on the first taste as well. Finishes nicely for a high ABV.
3.2 Bottle to English pint. Pours hazy, amber/orange, quick head, very little lacing. Aroma of apricot, light grapefruit. Taste is bready, caramel sweet. Not really that bitter, which tends to let the alcohol come through. Odd for a IPA at 7.5%. Medium body, medium carbonation, creamy mouth feel. Finishes with notes of caramel, grass, mango and apricot. Average but interesting.
3.4 Pours copper, thin off white head. Flowery nose. Taste has large bitterness, some pine and resin. Booze burn finish, light carbonation, medium body.
3.1 Not exactly worthy of the name. Has some soda like carb, but after drinking a DIPA from Green Flash and one from 21st Amendment, it?s hard to give this one equal footing. Solid, and I would drink it again, but I?d rename it first.
3.0 Pours a clear, bubbly amber with a thick eggshell head. Aroma has a firm note of resiny hops and a flowery hint. Flavor is hoppy, a little bitter, and - um, that’s it. Not great, but palatable. Texture is about average in both fizz and viscosity. Fair to middlin’, but worth a fair shake.
3.0 Pretty Good IPA poured from a bottle a hazy orange color. Floral and citrus notes are distinct in the aroma. Flavor starts sweet and finishes bitter, but not too bitter. I would like to try this from a tap.
2.5 Pour at PGH Beer Fest. Hazy orange pour. Aroma is floral and herbal. Not too much citrus. Malty taste. Not great.
2.8 Pours a cloudy orange color. Decent floral nose. Taste has some citrus up front (not much), but goes straight to a bitter finish. Not all that well structured. Alcohol not well hidden. Meh.
3.4 Served on tap in a pint glass Appearance – The beer is served a golden amber color with a billowy white head of one finger height. The head has a decent level of retention, fading over time to leave a decent level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the beer is biggest of a citrus sweet smell with it being a mix of tangerine and orange as well as containing some other sweet smells of caramel. A little bit of bread as well as some hops of a grapefruit, herbal, and floral hop smell mingle with the rest of the smells. Taste – The taste begins with a rather malty and bready taste with a good showing of a sweeter caramel and toffee flavor. As the taste advances, some hop flavors of grapefruit greet the tongue, starting out rather light, but gaining strength as the taste advances. With the increase in the grapefruit hop comes some flavors of a floral and earthy nature with the flavors drying out some as the bready transition to a slightly more cracker nature and some of the sweeter caramel fades. In the end, with the transitions of flavors that occurs throughout the taste, one is left with a semi-sweet and rather malty, moderately hopped (for an IPA of 7.5 %) flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel- The beer was on the slightly thicker and creamier side with a carbonation level that was on the lower side. The lower carbonation and thicker body really accentuated the sweeter and maltier flavors of the brew allowing them to really stand out, but did very little for the lighter to moderate hop flavors overall. Overall the feel was just OK. Overall – An aright IPA; with it being very easy drinking and smooth, but not really delivering a great hop hit. Just OK overall.
3.6 aroma yeasty, malty and fruity with maybe a floral hoppiness..nice cloudy amber orange body thin pure white head with lacing..tastes okay with the fruity sweetnessmentioned before with a bit of tingly hops slightly sticky on the palate with a slightly bitter finish..overall a fairly typical ipa not bad but not great
1.9 So I put off rating d becasue of the sweet bayby ho-zay confict, but got over that. Slightly weeird oroma of oiled saddles. Cloudy yellah. cramy head. taste evolves. starts rather friendly and then goes to ignor you then rizes to get in yer face. Finish is same as the minutes continue.
3.6 Just found the notes on this. I’ve had this twice and it was in a pint glass. The appearance was a nice slightly hazy orange but it still showed a decent looking transparency. The head was about a nice white color that dissipated within less than thirty seconds and it left a decent looking soapy looking lacing. The smell had a decent allocation of piney to citrus to earthy hops. The taste was mostly bitter but it did allow a decent sweetness to come out as the beer warmed. On the palate, this one sat at/about a medium in body with a fairly decent sessionability running about the mouth and tongue. The carbonation was good for the style as it had a good harshness pummeling my tongue. Overall, good AIPA well worthy of having again.
3.9 Poured from bottle. Pine and citrus hops and ocean in aroma. Solid amber with just a bit of head. I taste a ton of hops, grapefruit/citrus followed by pine, floral and grass. Malt is sweet, almost honey flavor - complements hops nicely. Pear notes. Alcohol flavor in back. Good drinkability for a beer with this much going on. Great IPA.
3.3 Taster at pub. Golden pour with white head and lacing. Mostly pine and floral hops on the nose. Well balanced with bitter dry finish... Good.
3.0 Tap at the brewery. Pours a hazy amber with off white head. Aroma of hops and hints of citrus. Taste is mostly bitterness.
3.4 Hazy light amber with rimming offwhite head; aroma is mildly sweet with some flowery hop notes; Flava is hoppy with notes of wood; feels medium thick with a fizzy bite; finishes dry hoppy bitter
3.2 From bottle. Rye, grain, bit of skunk and caramel in the nose. Hazy copper body with medium foamy off-white lacing head. Medium body with medium carbonation. Starts medium dry with light warming. Caramel. Hoppy and resinous finish, lightly bitter and sweet. Sweetish after.
3.0 bottle. golden orange with small head. earthy with lots of caramel malt. somewhat fruity hops. this just doesn’t do anything for me.
3.4 Tap at duclaw BWI. Cloudy orange, offwhite cream. Citru and peach notes, medium full sparkly sweet body, grassy herbal finish. Good balance.
2.8 Run of the mill IPA. Not "razing any hell" as the description says. Typical east coast IPA. Strong caramel malt presence with light mango and melon flavors/aroma. Very earthy. Slight iced tea off flavors. Mild carbonation.
