DuClaw Mad Bishop

DuClaw Mad Bishop

Haunting the congregation with its distinct copper color and rich toasted malt flavor, this true German-style Oktoberfest lager is smooth in body and uses German hops in the brewing process to balance out the distinctive, toasted malt sweetness. The clean smoothness is created by the long conditioning (lagering) process of 8 weeks.

3.3 Light caramel and spice aroma, copper color and little hazy. Malt sweetness hinting of toffee or caramel with a sharp hop bitterness. Well balanced and finished fairly clean.
3.3 On tap at P&P Charleston. Slightly hazy caramel with no head. Aroma is caramel malt, light/medium body, low carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is caramel malt.
3.7 Bottle: Hazy amber/copper with a small beige head. Caramel, toasted grain aroma. Taste is sweet, lightly spicy toffee malt. Pleasant earthy bitterness. Very nice.
3.9 Bottle. Lactic caramel malt and fresh hay aroma. Dark amber with nice light tan head. Mildly sweet bready toffee malt and mildly bitter hay flavor. Nice body. Very good.
3.3 on tap @ Hebron Brewhaus / Hebron KY --- Clear amber brown color, white head that sinks quickly to a thick rim, lace cobwebs. Taste is caramel malt that smoothly moves past medium fizz on the swallow to light hops that give way to the caramel and malt in a medium finish. A nice, understated, Oktoberfest.
3.5 Where and how: b. 12 oz Aroma nice, clean bready, malty character, Nice proper hop side. Solid all around nose. Appearance : Top: medium top, sparse lace. Base: clear amber with touch of red Palate : medium full bodied, thinner walls. Medium plus carbonation. Average finish. Taste: nice drinkable polotmave pivo. Good malt base. Other notes solid work.
3.4 12 oz bottle into a lager glass. ABV listed as 6%. Clear deep copper-colored body with a good tan head that leaves a coat of lacing on the glass with each tip. This is a bitter-sweet, malt dominated . Very tasty with well hidden alcohol. Enough hops to equalize the bitter/sweet balance and impact some spicy hop notes. Mildly bitter finish. A bit bock-like. Medium body with medium carbonation.
3.0 Bottle. Dark color with brown, malt and some balance maltiness. Good session that's dark
3.4 bottle to pint glass. poured a clear copper orange color with nice off white head. mild carbonation. aroma is medium sweet malt. maybe slight citrus peel. not much else. the flavor though is not offensive at all. nice malt balance semi sweet and somewhat earthy flavor. get a bit of a twang on the end...mild hop presence. overall still quite drinkable.
2.5 Really average and sub par. Weak aroma and taste. The first duclaw I had was the only 1 of liked.
3.0 Bottle, thanks sevenhokie! Caramel malt aroma with toasted malt and bready malt notes. Pours amber colored with a thin off white head with good retention and some lacing. Starts with weak caramel malt sweetness with some bready notes. Finishes smooth with some toasted malt as well as a bit of a bitter hoppy finish. Started out ok, but didn't balance itself out well with the hops.
2.8 Bottle to mug. Aroma is non deScript. Very light. Color is Amber , medium white head. Taste is malt, hint of orange, light spice. Easy drinking, but nothing special.
3.5 nice deep, reddish-amber color; bready malt and floral hop aroma; nice, smooth, bready malt flavor; well balanced with a good deal of hoppy bitterness
2.9 Draft @ DAS BEST Oktoberfest, Baltimore. Pours a slightly hazy golden pale amber color with a small white head. Has a fruity malty grainy aroma. Fruity malty grainy caramel flavor. Has a fruity malty grainy weak caramel finish.
3.2 bottled - nice amber, almost orangey color. Sweet aroma and flavor. A pretty good Oktoberfest.
4.0 12 oz bottle from the 4 type sampler case. Rich and sweet, this beer has a lot to offer fans of the dark side.
3.0 Good upfront malt fades quick to a lighter body. Head also dissipates fast. Finishes dry after a honey sweetness with a touch of caramel, toasted malt, and a touch of hay. Just enough hops to balance. Light mouthfeel.
3.0 Pours a clear amber with a slightly energetic head resulting in a 5 minute pour.....aroma is sweetness, slight pine.....taste is clean beginning, sweet maltiness, slight bitterness finishing with almost the taste of nuts.
2.9 Aroma is sweet malt. Taste is nicely balanced with sweet malt and bitter hops. Overall a pretty good fall beer.
2.6 Copper-gold, not much head. Very sweet malt nose. Bitter honey start, quickly fades to a bitter aftertaste. Not a lot of malt taste. Carbonation is moderately strong. Not something I’d search out again.
3.2 Bottle at Vino Volo, Chevy Chase. Light amber body with medium head. Nose is slightly malty, subdued. Taste is roasty, skunk, caramel. Slight carbonation.
3.6 Nice and malty, smooth with some caramel and nuts, Hints of bread and a bit of the hops come on with a touch of bitterness towards the end.
3.7 Mlieby hooked me up with some of these as extras in an already great trade... Thanks Matt, I love a good German lager, and just in time for Oktoberfest! Enjoyed from my CBC tulip.. Polished amber with a foamy white head.. Proper complex malty nose, nothing is overdone and still definitely not one dimensional, clean and smells Continental. Flavor fires on all the same cylinders, very smooth on the palate and still pretty drinkable despite the higher ABV.. Tastes like the leaves should be changing. Medium body and bubble... Very well made. Thanks again Matt, this one is a big winner.
2.9 Bottle. Pours a dark copper color with white head. Wheat bread, malty, wheat biscuit aromas. Bread, grainy, malty, slick sweet flavors. Eh.
2.8 12oz bottle. Poured a clear copper color, maybe there was a light haze color. Off-white head. Aroma was light sweet toasted malts, nutty notes. Flavor was pretty sweet.
1.0 Poured from 12 bottle. Malty notes lead through on this amber colored ale. Notes of barley shine through keeping true to tradition. --you've been Dubbed.
3.0 Bottle. Pours out a nice orangy/amber color with a small off white head. Aroma is lots of bready grains, caramel, light bitterness cereal malts, toast. Taste is smooth, much the same, lots of caramel, multi-grain bread, cardboard, floral grassy bitterness. eh, its an Oktober.
2.7 Just going through all the Oktoberfests I massed up over the past couple months before they go bad. This one is average among a category that strives for average. Pours brown with OK head and lacing. A little touch of mash sourness. Some barley. Aftertaste gets annoying after a few sips. Bottle.
2.9 a little scratch in the throat but not gritty. mouthfeel is cloudy some sweetness and alcohol with bread, grass and vanilla. a little mellow in it’s character.
3.1 12 ounce bottle poured into a teku. Pours a hazed copper with a white froth of foam. Good head retention. The aroma has bread and spice carrot cake notes. Taste lends bready sweetness with some smarties and grass found toward the back end. Medium bodied. Medium to high carbonation.
