3.3 Quite dry & definitely raspberry. Average dark pour w/ a thin head & little lacing. The aroma has an enticing blend of raspberry & chocolate. The flavor is bitter for a stout w/ the raspberry kicking in at the finish. Different for a stout but I’m not sure I’m a fan!
3.5 12 oz bottle; bottled on 29 Dec. 2014. Sweet chocolate and raspberry aroma, with faint dark malt and no sign of coffee. Flavor: Quite a bit of raspberry and some chocolate but not so much as to be objectionable or to entirely mask the dark malts, and not as much raspberry as the aroma suggests. The raspberry builds into the finish, then fades a bit as dark roasted grains with hints of dark chocolate and coffee eventually come to the fore in the aftertaste. Good bitter-sweet mix.
4.7 Had this last night for the first time. It was on tap at a local bar/grill. I immediately loved it from the 1st sip! It was dark with great aroma. The chocolate flavor is similar to the DuClaw Sweet Baby Jesus but it was sweeter and not as much bite. The raspberry was a nice smooth complement. There was no after taste like you sometimes get with a more bitter stout. It was smooth like theShock Top Shockolate. I highly recommend!
3.0 Pours deep and dark with a bit of garnet, and smallish mocha that reduces quickly to skim. Great aroma, chocolate and raspberries, but on the palate, the ashy taste of coffee grounds is the immediate impression. After five minutes or so, the berries fight back, though not enough to establish sweetness. Finish is bitter, not distressingly so, but more coffee dregs. As occasionally happens with this brewery, this seems like a good concept haphazardly executed. I’m fine with one, but I’m not going for a second.
2.9 bottled - tastes like a chocolate and raspberry flavored stout! Super dark color. Could be a bit sweeter.
3.1 12 ounce bottle poured into a brandy snifter. Pours a clear brown with a gaseous head of beige foam. The aroma has ashy, roasty, dry coffee. The taste is initially ashy bitterness, but as the flavor a settle on the tongue, I am able to taste more of the berry sweetness. Lighter bodied stout. Medium carbonation.
2.5 This is one big black looken beer, had it at bowsers. Decent head fades rapidly. Cant taste any raspberry in this. The coffee is big and in there but to call this a fruit beer is misleading. Just a really good coffee flavored stout. Seems like more than the 4% listed here. Smell is big coffee aroma. Has lots of personality from beginning to end. But, fer sure its not a fruit beer. Just a simple dry coffee stout.
3.7 Bottle. Pours a dark brown with small beige head that lasts. The aroma is raspberry, roast, and chocolate. Medium mouth nice roast, chocolate covered raspberries, very sweet, light bitterness in finish. Good.
3.4 12 ounce beer .. . Dark brown .. Light head .. . Light raspberry and easy chocolate .. Easy enough, I liked this .. . . Calm down old man, we’re at a waffle house.
3.3 Smells of coffee and dark chocolate with a bit of raspberry. Taste is similar but not sweet at all. Not bad at all. Flavors are a bit subdued if anything.
3.4 Bottle pour. Aroma of chocolate raspberry candy. Stout black with a trace of tan head. Tasting dark chocolate, raspberry, coffee, hops, cola. Slightly oily feel. Pretty good.
3.4 Dark pour with an opaque brown on the edges. One finger of tan head. A light earthy malt note shows with a roasty quality and touch of raspberry. Flavor is fine, some raspberry shows with a tannic character and chocolate.
3.6 Delicious and unique beer. Love chocolate and raspberry and the beer delivered. Aroma was nice. Raspberry is the main aroma with a nice chocolate undertone. Pour was a nice deep dark brown with a thin tan film for a head. Taste was very full and complex for such a low ABV beer. Dark chocolate in the beginning, then strong carbonation cleared the palate and strong raspberry flavors seemed to come up from the throat like Halls commercials say. Nice strong carbonation. Lots of flavor for this ABV
3.5 12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured dark (almost black) brown with a small tan head. Aroma is mostly raspberries, malts and chocolate. Taste consistent, raspberry, chocolate some roasted notes and a bit of coffee; quite tasty. Enjoyable beer easy to drink, very good.
4.1 Kind of looks like a A&W root beer. I can smell the aroma a mile away. Think on the palate. but taste good though. well balanced not too bitter
3.5 Dark dark brown with lacy rimming beige head; aroma is my sweet; flav is rich upfront with peanutty notes; feels light to medium with some fizz; finishes sweet and tangy
3.0 From 12oz bottle. Pours dark with slight tan head. Raspberry does dominate the aroma and aftertaste. Hard pressed to find any chocolate.
3.5 Pours the deepest ruby, almost opaque, with a suds head that leaves light lacing. The nose is of roasts and bittersweet chocolates. Flavors of dry roasted coffee, bitter chocolates and hints at raspberry essence. The finish is of coffee. I can’t see how this is labeled a "fruit beer" instead of a stout, so I will assume a miscategorization. The medium-full body and nice roasted coffee palate make for a decent fruity, dry stout here. Nice.
3.4 12oz bottle. Poured a brown color with a small sized tan head. Chocolate, raaspberries, and some roastiness.
3.3 Bottle. Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of sweet raspberry, chocolate and coffee. Flavor of chocolate, roast, raspberry, mild coffee and had a dry finish.
3.3 Bottle to glass. Pours a deep brown almost black color with a thin tan head. Aroma is chocolate, raspberry, burnt malts, roasted coffee. Flavor is mostly burnt malts and light chocolate, not much fruity character. Medium body with a lingering burnt bitterness. Interesting. Nothing special.
3.3 Bottled December 26, 2013. Appearance: In the glass the body appears a deep opaque chestnut, but through the light I can see garnet edges, but not through the center. A short tan head sits on top. Aroma: Initially I get a prominent roasted coffee aroma with a backing of chocolate and a hint of sweet artificial raspberry. As it warms the aroma exhibits a sort of stale presence, it reminds me of something that I can’t put my finger on. Maybe 4 months is too long for this to be on the shelf? If so it should be draft only. Taste: The flavor isn’t very sweet like I’d imagined, hints of coffee with sort of stale malts underlying it. The finish shows a little chocolate and a hint of raspberry. Not as whacky as I’d imagined. This would likely be better fresher. Palate: Light-medium bodied, moderately carbonated. Overall: Nice try, but if your beer can’t handle a 4 month shelf life and doesn’t move fast enough then it should probably be tap only. I may revisit this next year, but only if I feel intrigued enough to.
3.1 Poured from a bottle. Dark brown color, medium tan head. Strong roasted malt aroma. Mineral with a slight raspberry and roasted malt flavor with a mute finish.
3.3 Pours out almost black with a small off white head. Aroma is of chocolate, raspberry, light medium roast coffee. Taste is light chocolate, raspberry puree, medium roast coffee, some light bitterness, mild artificial sweetness creeping in, I know it’s only 4ish percent but the body is thinner than I would have liked.
3.1 12oz bottle from Spirits Rt 166. Poured a medium density light black body with a smaller beige foamy head. Aroma is all over the place, chocolate to start followed but overly sweet raspberry, dark toast and for some reason canned dog food. Medium to slightly thinner mouthfeel with average to stronger carbonation and a lingering aftertaste. Flavor of artificial raspberry, well done toast, some dark chocolate, burnt malts. Okay but seems artificial.
2.3 Fresh bottle. Pours brown/black, no head. Aroma is very light...some raspberry, some chocolate. Hard to discern. Taste was a bit of a let down. I’m not sure what "gourmet chocolate raspberry coffee" is...that sounds like a bit of a misnomer. The raspberry flavor was faint, in the background, and too indistinct to be a pleasant accent. Not much in the way of coffee flavor either. In all, a bit too light for me.
3.0 Pours a deep dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma is very mild with dark roasted malt and fruity notes. Taste is sweet dark malt, mild coffee and chocolate with a bit of artificial raspberry flavor. Palate is medium body with good carbonation, slightly dry astringent. The finish is same as taste with some lingering roasted malt coffee and mild raspberry flavor mild bitterness. Was expecting a bit more substance from this brew, improves as it warms up a bit. Overall an ok brew nothing stand out.
3.4 Thin light brown head of fine bubbles. Nice chocolatey aroma with some mild coffee, raspberries and dark roasted malts. Color is a very dark brown. Rather dry palate with some more mild coffee, some chocolate covered raspberries and burnt toast. Lingering coffee and dark bitter chocolate. A decent stout. Not really enough fruit in here to call this a fruit beer.
3.3 Coffee chocolate raspberries all prominent in nose and taste. All good flavors, though not quite right. It seems forced. On tap at blend.
4.1 Bottle shared by Bruce, thanks for the opportunity! Pours a solid black color with a smallish tan head that dissipates quickly. Aromas of caramel chocolate, coffee, and a hint of berries. The flavor is a wow out of this world. Creamy chocolate covered raspberries with a hint of caramel and earth. This is like drinking a valentines day fruited chocolate. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a creamy silky mouthfeel. This beer wowed me! Great fruited stout that I enjoyed the hell out of.
