DuClaw Serum

DuClaw Serum

Serum is our version of a Double(Imperial) India Pale Ale. It is aggressively hopped at several stages of the brewing process including a dry hopping that takes place little by little over a 2 week period. With an OG close to 19Plato, this beer is big and hoppy, yet has a strong malt backbone that keeps the huge hop bitterness from being overbearing.

2.0 Bottle to pilsner glaas. Cloudy yellow-orange. Small head. Aroma is nondescript, touch of something a little fruity. Taste is pine, ash. Little carbonation. Not great.
3.3 Golden pour with a white two finger head lots of lace. Mild hops for a double. Very drinkable and definitely do not taste the 9% alcohol. Good for a hot day to quench your ipa pallet.
3.0 Citrusy aroma, flavor much of the same. Not very well balanced as the alcohol really came through.
3.1 A pretty good beer. A translucent copper/brown color with minimal head. The aroma is slightly hoppy, slightly fruity with a whiff of alcohol. Up front hoppy taste.
3.6 on tap. Dark yellow in color with off-white head. Mostly citrusy hoppy aroma. Medium bodied with creamy texture. Moderately bitter with grassy and floral hoppy flavor notes. Not as intense as I expected.
3.6 Some citrus and tangerine on the head of this. OK malt backbone, and balance is decent. Good if nothing super original. Tap at BWI brewpub.
3.6 Aromabread, bread, floral, citrus, leaves, raisin, Appearance orange, hazy, white foam, Taste light sweetness, medium bitterness, Palate medium body, sticky, average carbonation, Overall I like that the alcohol is almost nonexistent in this 9% beer so I would suggest this beer to a friend
3.9 Hopped aggressively at several stages in the brewing process, yet well-balanced with a malty sweetness.
3.4 Meh. I found this to be on the line between an IPA and an imperial/double IPA. it had *most* of the aroma, body, and taste, but not enough for me to think "damn this is a seriously hoppy beer." If they called it an IPA, i’d have given it higher marks; as an IIPA...well...it’s mediocre.
3.8 Pours dark brownish orange amber with an average white head that fades fast to a rim. Does not stand out visually. Aroma is pretty great. Sweet, dank resin predominates with some caramel malt and a bit of orange. Quite an active and clean bright mouthfeel and very balanced. Flavors of citrus and caramel; jammy grapefruit bitter sweet pine goodness. Very well-balanced with a solid malt backbone. Really good.
3.6 Poured from 12 oz bottle a hue of amber and orange, fair head and lacing. Aroma of clove, spruce, grapefruit, wet earthen field grass, milk chocolate, and lightly toasted grains. Flavour of big caramel, sweet, sticky malt, pine resins, soft citrus and spicy hops. Body is medium with a creamy, bubbly carbonation. Decent enough I suppose, recommended.
3.4 Growler. Drinks very easily for a Double IPA, with hops that are very prevalent but won’t rock your face off. That said, when I drink a Double IPA, I WANT my face rocked off. This beer is fine, but there are lot better beers of this style out there to be had.
4.0 Some east coast brewers can make great IPAs, and this is one of them. In your face bitterness, but buttery smooth on the back end, super thick creamy head, lacing coats the glass. Plenty warm and glowing.
4.2 Clear hazy orange with a thin white head. Sweet full bodied ipa with a crisp citrus resiny hop Finish
3.9 Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a nice creamy head and some excellent lacing. Has an aroma of bitter hops and pine. Tastes slightly sweet, but quite bitter at the same time.
3.7 Pours a hazy hazy copper colour with nice white lacing. Aroma of grapefruit and pineapple. Grapefruit hops flavor with a slight malty aftertaste. Not bad.
3.7 Pretty clean and sharp amber pour with two fingers of off white head. Nose is resinous and citrusy with some piney notes with some bready malt backing. Resinous in the flavor with heavy citrus rind. Coating bitterness and piney finish.
0.7 Let me start by saying that I am a fan of DuClaw and the beers they make. I had never had a"bad" beer from them. That is, until I tried Serum. I hated this beer. I hated everything about it. I tried to like it. I gave it every chance. I thought maybe it has to be paired with something. Tried it with sweet, tried it with savory, tried it warm, cold... Tastes like your chewing a hop bush. YUK!!!
3.5 bottle. deep golden with small head. medium body, a bit sweet with big fruity hops. some tropical notes.
3.9 bottle, from thr Beer Dispensary, Apexgood aroma, sweet, pine, caramel, grapefruit. clean brownish orange color, ok head and lace, bitter sweet flavor, heavy body oily creamy mouthfeel, bitter sweet finish, that’s nice, real good in both aroma and flavor.
3.5 Pour on tap, hazy orange-yellow pour with white head, aroma brought notes of caramel, toffee, some biscuit into a bit of orange, some jam, hints of pine into a bit of grass and spice. Taste is a mix of grass, spice, earth into caramel, toffee, some orange, grapefruit, finishing fairly bitter, slightly sweet. Not bad.
3.7 25 Dec 2014, tap at Duclaw in Baltimore airport. yellow, clear, no bubbles. nose is grapefruit hops but mild and slightly sweet. med body and moderately fizzy. Great! Moderate alcohol, sugary malt, cotton candy, mild grapefruit hops. Really good.
3.2 Draught. Dark yellow hazy apperance, off-white foamy head, floral hops aroma, low carbonation, sweetish hoppy taste with doughy undertones, hint of citrus, medium finish. Not a really very good DIPA.
3.5 This is a good beer but just barely an imperial, it is quite sweet, Nice aroma but not notable. It does have a nice head.
3.6 Pours a hazy orange collor with a sudsy white head. Aroma was nice with citrus hops and some pine. Taste was orange, light grapefruit, bread, and hints of sweet malts. Solid double IPA and better than I was expecting.
3.7 Bottle to shaker glass. Pours hazy amber, quick 1 finger head. Nice lacing and retention. Aroma of spruce tips and citrus. Taste is pretty balanced with just enough sweetness from the malt to tame the bitterness of the hop bomb. Medium bodied, light carbonation and slightly oily mouth feel. Finishes medium bitter with notes of grapefruit, pine, caramel, hop resin and slight alcohol. I like it!
3.6 Thanks Nuf for the six.. resin-citrus balance in the aroma with a little caramel. Flavor a little thin and metallic, a little grapefruit and honey. light amber color with moderate white head. drying on the tongue.
3.6 12 oz bottle. Bottled on 04/23/14. (Mr. Bill’s) Roanoke, VA. Cloudy amber colour with a tiny white head. Sweet, fruity and piney hops, mild bitterness, strong malty sweetness and The flavour is sweet... very sweet with a lots of hops. Fruity and resiny hops. Bitterness and sweet maltiness. Quite balanced. Strong.
3.7 355 mL bottle. Pours copper-orange with a small white head. Nice looking beer. The taste and the aroma are similar, with semi-sweet citrus and mixed tropical fruit, with the balance leaning toward the latter. The malt is tertiary to the hop flavours, but is certainly present. A solid if unspectacular brew.
3.9 Poured a cooper color with nice white head and plenty of lace. Aroma was a nice citrus mix, not heavy on grapefruit more like Sunny D, with a malt backbone. Taste was light citrus with a cereal maltyness. Some very light alcohol noted in in finish and it slightly bitters in the late finish but never overwhelming on either. In fact I loved the balance here and very much enjoyed it, well done. Medium bodied and oily with low co2.
