4.0 473ml can from the LCBO I am an IPA fan , have to try them all when I see a new one. Love this one smooth, hoppy , but not too. Malty, nutty, just nice beer. In a great looking can. No need to over complicate it this one has a place a my house anyday.
3.0 473ml can from the LCBO After pouring it you would never know it was an IPA by the look of it Cloudy dark brown Nice fruity aroma little hops sweet malt taste very little bitterness weird beer but I stil, enjoyed it
3.5 275ml bottle purchased at the LCBO in Peterborough, Ontario. Deep copper in colour with a long lasting off-white head, excellent lacing. Aroma is of citrus, oranges, some grapefruit and caramel. Flavour is more moderately hopped with orange zest and grapefruit, moderate bitterness, noticeable caramel. Bitter mouthfeel, medium/light body, moderate carbonation. Finishes long, hoppy, bitter. Quite nice. Good hop bite, high drinkability.
3.0 Big can in a stem glass. Pours dark amber with a lacy, off-white head. Aroma of light floral hops, a lot of caramel and toffee and toast from the malts, and dough/bread. Flavor the same. Average texture. I hope this can was old, because if not, this is a terrible IPA.
2.1 From can poured into glass: Lots of head, some last & lace’s some gone fast. Amber looking aND carbination. Smell is fruity and bitter. Smell is fimiliar. Taste grapefruit, citrus bittery up frunt, water, chocolate bitter and something strange in the back. Easy drinking.
3.2 can from the LCBO. Clear deep copper pour with a large beige head that fades slowly. Nose has lots of caramel, roasted nuts and pine resin. Light sweet candied sugar front with a medium bitter pine middle and some light fruit. Medium slick mouth with average carbonation. Nice enough but the flavours aren’t very well integrated.
2.5 Pours amber with thin head. Aroma of malts and burnt sugar, a little hops: not really IPA-like. Tastes of malts, burnt sugar and a bit of booze: tastes nothing like an IPA, more like a strong English or Belgian ale. Not great.
3.2 This is an awful pretty beer that’s for sure, but who the hell packages beer in a 275ml bottle? Anyway... It’s got a lot more malt character than I was expecting: caramel and spice, like a ryePA. Finish is quite bitter, but concealed by the heavy malt. Drinkable and a little different for an IPA, but not overly memorable.
3.3 Brown amber pour, medium beige head. Taste is decently bitter, grassy tastes with with some caramel.
3.1 Scent of hops, citrus, and leather. Clear gold colour. Flavour of grapefruit, malt, and biscuit. Medium body with mild carbonation. Solid brew.
3.6 tap. Poured red-amber with a lasting creamy beige head. Aroma of citrus hops. Medium body, average carbonation with a tart finish. Flavour of burnt malt, herbal hop with some bitter grapefruit peel.
3.3 Brown colour with very thin head . Moderate hop and floral notes with a mild bitter taste.
3.7 275 ml bottle from the brewery. Amber with nice head and lacing. Smells malty, spicy, toasty. Same for the taste, balanced bitterness.
2.4 Bottle 275 ml. Pours dark copper with not uch head. Aroma is very malty for the style. Not much hops. Taste is also way too malty, with slight unpleasant bitterness at the end. This one has nothing that makes a good IPA, but to be fair, freshness may have been an issue.
3.2 Bottle at Supermarket, pours a clear copper with a small off-white head. Aroma and flavour brings out piney hops, and a big caramely biscuity backing. Well-balanced and restrained for an IPA. Solid stuff.
3.5 Late nite from the bottle after TIFF midnite madness is just what the doctor ordered. A tasty local ipa that is malts in the front & muted hops in the back. Wish the bottle was a tad larger than the kids size it is. Grabbing another from fridge before I crash.
3.7 Bottle from Miko. Thanks! Pours clear dark copper with thin lasting white head. Aroma is malt, hops, spices, licorice. Flavor is malt, hops, candy, licorice
3.1 12/29/2010: Michael Duggan 9... Aroma: Minerals; earthy-herbal hops. Appearance: Amber; shinyc omplexion; crackle-top off-white crown. Flavor: Toasted grains; hint of chocolate; dry roasty finish; caramel malt; earthy-herbal hoppiness in the finish; moderate bitterness that sticks. Palate: Medium-light body;slightly thin. Overall: Decent tick. 341 mL twist-off bottle (6.2% alc./vol.) shared by alexsdad06. Thanks Brad! Rating #122 for this beer.
2.6 Rated in 2010 (Backlog) - Amber in color with an average sized off-white head. Aroma is of grain, malt and cardboard. Taste is of grain and wheat.
3.8 *Beer Review* Duggan’s 9 IPA Clear light brown pour with a quickly fading head. Smells like an IPA, lots of hops. Rather nice brew. Easy to drink for an IPA. It’s got that grapefruit like bitterness but it comes on quick and fades faster. There’s just a hint of it in the late aftertaste. A bit bready and sweet in the finish. Not bad at all for a style I generally don’t like.
3.4 Caramel and molasses in the nose. Pours a clear, brown ale with a slight head that disappears quickly. Not TooMuch carbonation. Toasty, smokey flavors hit the palette first with good balance. Sourness comes through the middle with a smooth bitter end. Very well balanced leaving a good after taste Overall - pretty good. Very drinkable and has enough going on to keep me interested. A slightly dilute taste. Wish it were a tad bolder.
3.0 275 ml bottle (275...weird) @ D'Arcy McGee's Ottawa. Pours a clear amber with a large off-white head. Aroma is crisp citrusy hop and bready dough. Taste brings a little bit of malt up front but is quickly replaced by a fairly gentle dry hoppy bite. Slightly astringent medium finish. Not very complex, very unremarkable IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy
2.9 275 ml bottle purchased at the LCBO on Rideau and King Edward (Ottawa) on January 5, 2013. Honey copper, little head. Green grass hopped aroma, a little dry. The taste is similar, but with hints of medicine herb, aspirin bitterness. It’s like drinking a bottle of aspirin!
3.4 Sweet malty aroma mixed with earthy/floaral hops. Not much citrus or pine on the nose. Dark brown to match with the nose, clear. Taste has minimal bitterness, earthy/piney hops upfront and malt sweetness. Finishes a bit watery, light carbonation. Interesting but watery IPA.
3.4 On tap at C’est What? Pours a clear dark orange with a thick white head. Aroma of grapefruit, tropical fruit, overall just lots of fruit. Flavor is also super fruity up front (but more sugary fruit vs. fruit juice) with caramel malt. A bit too sweet for me. It’s not very hoppy either, an unusual IPA. It just wasn’t for me. 7/4/6/3/14 [3.4/5]
3.5 Pours a deep copper with a huge four-finger head of pillowy off-white foam. Immediate and strong aroma of earth and yeast. Additional nose of sweet roasted and caramel malts. Very fine carbonation is paired with an immediate hit of hoppy, piney bitterness over the tongue. A second taste reveals more bitterness, slightly astringent, and some malt. Not overly floral or citrusy to my palate. Somewhat lingering and slightly astringent aftertaste finish things off.
3.1 Draught at C’est What, Toronto Amber color, small head. Light aroma of caramel. Some caramel flavor, the hopping is partially resiny; it seems to be unfresh.
3.7 dark amber body. small white head. strong malt nose. flavors: copper, metals, smooth malt and strong hops. aftertaste is bittersweet and lingers for a short while. mouthfeel is rich and warm. excellent overall, great craftsmanship.
3.4 275 ml bottle from lcbo A: earthy, citrusy, caramel, just a touch of roastiness in the finish. App: clear dark copper with small white head. T/p: Med body finish is of medium long duration. moderate carbonation. O: A little too heavy on specialty malts even for an English Ipa. Not bitter enough close to balance
