Duits & Lauret Houtgerijpte Rook Dubbelbock

Duits & Lauret Houtgerijpte Rook Dubbelbock

This robust bock beer is the beer for lengthening evenings. The roasted and smoked malt varieties used give this beer its striking aroma and colour while the fragrant hop varieties and subtle touches of wood provide the beer fullness and depth. This strong beer can be enjoyed on its own but also combines well with beautiful stews.

3.5 Bottle 0.33l at home, Vantaa. Thanks MonsterMagnet! ~2 years old. Colour is slighly cloudy brown with small white head. Aromas and flavours: Licorice, tar, smoke, some bread, dryness and malts. Pretty soft! Licorice dominates but quite enjoyable.
3.3 33cl bottle at home. Appearance: clear copper with medium off-white head. Aroma: smoke, soapy, wood, butterscotch, overripe banana and dust. Taste: medium sweetness and medium bitterness. Notes of smoke, soapy citrus, caramel. Palate: medium bodied, watery texture and medium carbonation.
3.7 Bottle from a Mitra shop in Lelystad. Smoked and wood-aged double Bock from this interesting Dutch craft beer company. Medium thick, regularly shaped, moussy, off-white head consisting of tiny and tightly packed bubbles, quite stable on the edges; deep brownish amber robe, translucent, bronze-ish with coppery hue. Aroma of sticky butterscotch, Kirsch, dry earth, wodka-soaked cherries, wet hay, soggy brown bread, wet oak (including something vaguely vanilla-like), damp tree leaves, subtle smoked wood, dried banana, old cloth, moist ginger powder, subtle hints of tobacco, thyme and mustard seed. Fruity onset, sweetish pear, apricot and blackberry with perfectly matching, counterbalancing sourishness, spritzy carbo (a tad too sharp for this style perhaps), minerally; nutty malt middle, restrainedly sweetish and caramelly with a softly bittering toasted edge, dried fruit aspects lingering, spicy phenols in the end, full mouthfeel, dryish. The basic dryness is accentuated in the finish by a confident dosage of spicy, earthy and leafy hop bitterness, the subtle smoky touch adding further spiciness but not accelerating into smoked bacon flavors, drying woodiness (quite a lot of tannins actually) and, eventually and correctly positioned, an afterglow of gin-like alcohol. Rich, dryish beer, fruity in a ’dried’ kind of way with certain Belgian (phenolic) aspects here and there; in spite of the added flavors of smoke and wood, the emphasis is still on nutty, dryish but round maltiness as is the case in the best German Doppelbocks. Exemplary for its style even though atypical.
3.5 330ml bottle - thanks martjoobolut (7:4:6:4:14=3.5) Nice malty aroma, sweetish, but also abit of smokiness too, quite rubbery occasionally. Deep red, persistent small tight tan head. Light palate for the strength, gently smooth. Sweeter taste, but not sugary. Some berry fruitiness, and a bit of smokiness that’s a bit rubbery at times. Covers the alcohol very nicely. Shame about the rubber, otherwise this would be top. Rerate: 330ml bottle - thanks martjoobolut again! (7:4:6:3:13=3.3) Such a beautiful smoky malty aroma, slight let down in the mouth, a bit too fizzy for the heaviness of the brew. Still rather nice.
3.6 330ml bottle (thanks Mart). Clear dark amber color. Medium size, beige head, stays. Woody, peat, smoked, grainy and rubbery in aroma. Peat, sweetish, smoked, faint sausages in taste. Peat and sausages in aftertaste. No sign of alcohol. Pleasant in mouth. Solid brew.
3.8 Bottle (from het biermoment). Pours red amber with beige head. Aroma is nice smoke, sausages, malt, slight alcohol. Flavor is sweet and bitter, smoke, malt, dryness, caramel, some grains, some oak. Finish is dry bitter with some booze warmth. Overall: very good.
3.7 40% smoked malt, but then softened by wood aging. lightly smoky caramel nose, smoky-sweet and lightly roasty. Smooth and very drinkable.
3.8 33cl bottle. 17-07-2016. BBD: 15-09-2017. In short: smoked sweet bock. Pours hazy dark amber-light copper with frothy light tan head. Moderate head retention, good lacing. Smoky, roasty, biscuit nose. Medium body, average carbonation, little crispy texture. Taste is smoked, raisins, caramel, malty sweet, Sweet aftertaste. Good. Comments: a sweet smoked doppelbock, quite tasty.
3.4 Sweet and malty aromas of bread with an alcohol tinge. Pours dark dark brown with a dissipating tan head with massive lacing. Big round sweet and assertive tastes of brown bread and malt with a surprising hops finish that makes the taste journey complete. Medium carbonation. Very good.
3.7 Aroma: Slight/medium aroma of malts, caramel, wood and smoke. Appearance: Turbid/opaque orange/brown beer with a slight/medium beige head. Taste/Palate: Starts medium sweet with malts, caramel and wood; ends slightly dry smoke. Overall: This beer is rather intense, deep and complex with loads of character. It is really unique and thus really stands out.
3.7 Bottle, pours deep ruby with a cream head. Sweet and woody smoke aroma. Taste has delicate (but present) smoke, wood, dark fruit, sweets, caramel. Smooth with excellent balance,

4.0 Tap @ de la gare. Clear deep ruby amber pour, thin off-white head. Aroma of smoked malts, slighty spicy malts, fruity and clean. Flavor is quite sweet, fruity, spicy and candy sugar. Thick body, amazing balance. Lovely brew.
4.3 Zeer bijzondere, goed uitgevoerde Dubbelbock. Fantastisch hoe subtiel de rooksmaak is. Absolute aanrader.

3.8 15-12-2015 Delft Mitra Donkere kleur met lichte crème schuimkraag. Rokerige smaak vanwege de gebrande mout. Stevige bier maar drinkt desondanks redelijk makkelijk weg. Lichte hint naar caramel.
3.5 Pint Oak Aged Beer Festival 2015 @ Stadsbrouwerij De Pelgrim, Rotterdam. Snoeperig zoet zacht en rokerig. Backlog from 2015/03/15.
4.0 Geproefd tijdens bierproeverij, uitgeschonken in Struise BD glaasje.
3.8 Tap at Arendsnest, 19th November 15. Quite spicy, lots of dark fruit. Clean and easy to drink. Not bad.
3.9 On tap. Pours murky amber with two fingers of creamy beige head. Aroma is sweet malts, plums, raisins, caramel, butterscotch. Taste is similar with caramel and sweet malts along sweet red fruits and a light hoppy finish. Sticky sweet aftertaste, medium body, thick mouthfeel, light carbonation.
3.6 On tap at PINT Bokbierfestival 2015. Clear, dark brownish amber with a big, creamy, tan head. Sweetish-malty, smoky aroma of smoked ham, campfire, brown sugar and caramel. Sweetish, smoky-malty taste of smoked ham, campfire and brown sugar, followed by a short, slightly bitter and smoky finish with notes of coffee. Medium to full body, creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Good!
3.6 330ml Bottle - Dark brown with red tinges. Ash, beech, ham and dried fruit in the aroma. Smoky, fruity and moderately hoppy taste with beech, raisins, ash, caramel and some faint soapy notes.
3.8 Bottle from Bert’s Bierhuis. The beer is red brown in color and has a creamy tinted foam, with livingly Co2. In the aroma tones of roasted malts, caramel, nuts and a lot of oak. The taste is spicy and sweet and further some clear notes of smoke, further a little watery texture. The finish is light bitter and the smoke is also noticable.
3.1 I was actually a bit dissapointed by this beer. The smokeyness is really light, I hoped for more. Its also a bit watery. Still a decent beer though.
3.4 Not overly sweet good smokey beer. Aroma is subtle but the taste is great. Smoke, some sweetness. Some bitterness. Medium bodied, low carbonation.
3.9 Bottle. Thanks a bunch Benzai. It pours very dark amber with a dense beige head. The aroma has awesome malty and smoked notes. Great balance here. The flavor is medium sweet and has a mild Bamberg smoked tasting note to it. Not overwhelming but well balanced. Notes of chocolate caramel. Sweet malty finish. Very good!
