2.2 Bottle. Sweet grainy malt aroma. Clear brassy gold with a large white head. Sweet grainy corn malt and odd quinine flavor. Light body, average carbonation.
2.5 pours a clear golden color with a thick fluffy white head. the aroma is sweet malts and sugar and don’t really pick up any hops. the taste is sweet up front with a mild hop kick in it but the aftertaste is where this beer went south. the aftertaste is sorta like a rotten fruit. this was my first beer by this brewery and i wasn’t overly impressed.
2.2 Aroma is all malts. Taste is very sweet and just enough character. Overall I was pleasantly surprised by this one.
2.7 Bottle shared by Bob, syrupy sweet malt and caramel mess. Taste is similar, watery and bland.
1.9 Dimpled mug. Notes of malts and hay, sorta sweet. Light brown, minimal head, very little lacing. Taste is sweet, malts, gets foamy in your mouth. Pretty meh beer.
2.0 Appearance is straw clear with medium head. Taste is light malt with minimal hopness.
2.6 Tasted from a 12oz brown bottle into a nonic glass, thanks John! It poured a clear golden amber colour with deep, sudsy white foam and lots of lace. Nice appearance, but bland aromas and flavours. Soft malt-sweetness, hint of caramel, but almost no trace of hops, seemed a bit mushy and mass-produced. Light body, strong carbonation, sticky mouthfeel, too sweet aftertaste.
3.2 Pours a golden yellow with a creamy white head. the taste was a malty, sweet caramel. I really liked this beer.
3.1 Bottle shared by Ramy at Paul’s housewarming tasting. Pours a clear gold with a thin white head. Soft grain and toast on the nose. Medium bodied, soft grain. Toasty with some grain into the finish.
2.2 Bottle at Paul’s. Pours clear gold with white head. Nose and taste of corn and light metal. Some sweet malt. Lighter bodied.
3.1 Golden copper with a small white head. Medium bitterness, malty. Overall drinkable but not one I would go out of my way to get.
3.1 Bottle. Pours a golden-amber color with a moderate off-white head on it. Nose is light with some bread and corn notes to it. Taste is a little sweet, but still light and crisp. Very drinkable brew, though there is nothing particularly special about it...
2.1 Pours light gold/bud yellow with a white, well-laced head. Big malty aroma with some yeast in there. Taste is malt liquor and nothing else. This is not a Bock, it is too busy being a malt liquor. Pretty tasty for a malt liquor.
2.6 Bottle. Pale golden beer with a medium off-white head. Aroma is grain, honey, some caramel. Taste is medium-heavy sweet, almost no bitterness. Finish is sweet. Light-medium body, moderate carbonation. Bland and boring.
2.2 12oz bottle. Clear light copper with a light biege head. Grainy, some malt, bit sweet and roasted, moderate to high carbonation, light body, little dry, some stale caramel on the finish (like dried out caramel cubes).
2.4 Part of their 2013 spring/summer Variety 12-pack purchased in Syracuse, NY. Pours a clean golden colour with a frothy, slightly creamy white head, average retention and lots of dirty lace. Sweet malty nose with some alcohol. Very sweet tasting malt grain that leaves a cereal aftertaste. Reminds me of the sweetness of some malt liquors. Thankfully, some hop comes balancing things with some grassy notes in the end. Still, not my thing.
3.8 Really enjoyed this beer. Very surprised by its malty, sweet goodness and distinct "bock" flavor. Reminded me of some of the better dopple bocks ive had. Definitely worth a try.
2.2 Bottle: pours a light yellow color. Aroma is sweet bread. The taste is no surprise based on that... Sweet, slight citrus... But way to sweet for me. Boo.
2.4 The aroma is subtle with hints of yeast coming through until a sweet note arises at the end of the sniff; also, the appearance is a golden color with a small white head. The taste is slightly sweet and slightly sour, and the palate combines a medium body, slick texture, soft carbonation, and an abrupt finish.
2.5 Clear Gold Color, Good Head, Lots of Lacing. Sweet and Bitter. Better Than Expected. Decent.
2.0 12oz bottle. Pours a nice golden honey color, with a moderate head that fades quickly to some lacing. Aroma of mild malts with a trace of sweetness & citrus. Taste is also of mild malts with a caramel sweetness & citrus.
2.3 Thank goodness this was free. I'm not going to finish this one since I have an entire refrigerator food of good stuff. Aroma of pale malts. The taste is metallic. Not my favorite beer style either so that doesn't help.
2.2 Bottle, pour little head/lacing. Pale bock lager??? Caramel color (not dark) sweet sweet beer with a hint of hops. By a hint I mean this beer might have sat next to san ipa in the fridge... it promises big and malty on the bottle, but all I get is malt. Too sweet for me. Make it your girlfriends first beer...
4.4 I get sick of the people who write in and criticize any Saranac or Dundee beers. Two NY Brewers that have made good brews for years. Just about everything they make is Very Good , Easily drinkable product that is reasonably priced. Could they take more chances with what they are making? Of Course, but is what we are drinking from them worthy of the criticizm? I hardly think so. Are all of you that sophisticated? I HARDLY THINK SO.
2.7 12 oz bottle poured a golden-amber. The small white head has decent retention. The aroma is a mix of sweet malt, spicy hops and, unfortunately, a whiff of wet dog. The slightly boosted ABV is all too obvious in the flavor. O: an average quality lager, albeit with more flavor and alcohol.
1.5 Sour, caramel and yeasty. This tastes about how i would expect a caramel tootsie pop to taste. Not impressive at all.
2.3 Pour from a 12 oz bottle. Clear yellow brew with good sized white head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of light hops - ggrass and mineral water. Taste is prominent and sweet malt at the start though the end, with some grassy hops and funk in the finish, A little boozey as it warms up. Not so great, IMO, but maybe that is the style.
2.4 Sweet, bready aroma. Medium yellow color, moderate carbonation. Heavy, sweet caramel and sugar flavor, no real hop contrast. Frothy feel, minor bite on finish. Should be classed with the strong pales. Unusual to have a sugar bomb be a lager.
2.0 Almost clean, copper body and off white head. Pilsner yeast, sweet American white bread, not much more. Medium sweet, somewhat sticky body. Dry aftertaste of cheap crackers. Really bad smell, taste is bearable. (12oz bottle on Florida trip)
2.3 12 oz bottle from the very inexpensive sampler case. You get what you pay for and in this case it’s very true. Just an average tasting beer somewhat better than the standard swill, but not anything as good as a craft brew. Good for high consumption, such as at a party or barbecue.
