3.0 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. Deep, dark brown appearance with red hues and a tan head. Roasted malts, toffee, chocolate, caramel, coffee and lightly ashy. Average body with a smooth, malty finish. Drinkable.
3.2 Decent and well-balanced porter although low on aromas and flavors and with a watery end and aftertaste. Not worth your money.
3.0 "a little more interesting than thie pale or amber lager fo sho. not exactly robust, but atl east starting to lean that way. this is a dryer porter. heavily roasted aroma with a little chocolate and coffee in the back end. a little overcarbonated, but ok. flavor matches the aroma with a gentle hop bite."
3.0 Bottle to half-pint glass. Looks solid; a semi-transparent very dark amberish brown with foamy light beige head. Smells of malt, caramel, and mild roast. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. A decent no-frills grocery store porter.
2.7 Tap at Genesee Brewhouse. Amber-orange color. Sweet flavor, caramel, a bit of coffee, light roast. Too sweet and thin.
3.8 The pour produces a one inch thick foamy head. It has a light tan color and very good retention. It fades very slowly and makes some cool, slick lacing as it makes its way down the glass. The body has a very dark brown color that is nearly opaque with dark, deep crimson highlights. The aroma is rather light and has some light roasted malt notes with some leafy hops and a hint of sweet caramel. Its flavor has solid base of sweet roasted malt with dark caramel and light coffee notes. Hop flavor is modestly balanced and has a nice leafy tone with a very slight metallic touch creeping in as well. The finish has a quick flash of roasted flavor before quickly fading off the tongue. The palate has a solid medium body and a slick smooth texture with well balanced carbonation.
3.2 Transfer from BA review on 5-20-12- Poured from bottle into pint glass Appearance – Pours a deep brown color with a one finger tan head. The head fades fast to give only a very small amount of lacing. Smell – Sweeter toffee and caramel as well as aromas of dark bread and a light roasted malt are present mingling producing a nice sweet bready aroma. Taste – A dryer dark bready flavor with hints of a very light sweetness are upfront. As the flavor advances it bitters more as some roasted flavors of a light coffee and burnt toast become present. These flavors last to the end where they leave a bitter roasted flavor on the tongue. Mouthfeel –The body of the beer is very average in thickness with a slightly lower level of carbonation. The body is a little lighter then desired as a thicker body would allow all the roasted flavors to really be tasted. Overall - A little on the dry side without much variety in the flavor profile. One I would likely not go back to again and again.
2.9 Reviewed from notes. Into a pint glass, I poured this. The appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipates at a decent pace. There was no lacing observed anywhere on the sides of the glass. The smell had some light dark roasted chocolates pervading through a rich bitter coffee aroma. The taste was basically the same with no aftertaste and a quick dry coffee-like finish. On the palate, it sat a diligent medium on the body. There was a complete assurance on my part how this beer just stayed the same all the way through. I liked that. Sessionability - hmmm....well, perhaps, I could sense that there was a decent sessionable quality to this beer. The carbonation seemed fitting for the style and there was nothing obscure to me. Overall, this is not a bad American Porter, perhaps not one to really go nuts about, but worthy of throwing back if one ever sees it.
2.9 Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is slight roast. Flavor is slightly sweet and some roast. Slight bitterness on the finish. Drinkable beer.
2.4 Enjoyed, not the greatest beer, but it’s reasonable for what it is attempting to be.
2.6 This is a porter that looks ok but once you take a closer look it doesnt add up too anything special, not something I will look for ok watered down flavors not a true porter
3.5 Bottle. Pours a deep amber with a thin tan head. Chocolate aroma. Caramel and chocolate flavor up front finishing a bit thin. There are a lot of better and more complex porters but this ones okay and pretty easy to drink. I’ve had some pretty bad ones from Dundee so I’d say this is probably the best one from them I’ve had.
2.8 Bottle. Roasty chocolate malt aroma. Clear chestnut with a small beige head. Charred malt, nutty, light chocolate flavor. Light body, moderate carbonation.
2.4 reddish-brown color; sweet, roasted malt aroma; roasted malt flavor; slightly sweet; medium-bodied
2.8 Bottle. Great looking pour - deep mahogany with a soapy head. Nice little roast and toffee nose, but a hint of sour in there. Taste is unintended sour, and somewhat bitter and drying. Not great.
3.0 From the sample pack that my mom thought was a nice gift. Pours a dark brown/mahogany, clear, medium light beige head. Smell is earthy, roasted, nutty and touch of cocoa and sweet malts. Taste is roasted, nutty, earthy, no hops. Light palate on this porter. Kind of comes of more like a brown ale. Not bad.
2.8 Bottle. Pours a clear cola brown with a medium sized white head. Sweet caramel and a bit of toffee on the nose with a faint hint of paper. A bit thin, sweet caramel again and then a whole lot of oxidized old paper. Caramel and sadness on the finish.
2.6 Bottle. Tastes like wheat, coffee, some bitterness, some malt. Medium body and carbonation. Smells like some coffee and malt.
3.0 Bottle. Pours dark brown with fizzy beige head. Aroma is roasted and chocolate malts, earthy hops, figs, raisins, and some woody notes. Flavor is dry, roast malts forward with some chocolate and earthy hop bitterness; dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.
3.1 Bottle. Deep brown in color. Has a cola look to it. Weak head. Taste is that of toasted grains, coffee and chocolate with just a wisp of candy corn. Aroma was burnt toast, slight chocolate and coffee.
3.4 Bottle. Aroma is strong caramel malt. Pours dark brown with a white head that clings to the side of the glass. Taste is sweet caramel malt with a smooth finish.
3.4 12 oz bottle in a snifter. Pours a dark reddish-brown with nice mahogany highlights. There is a decent tan head. Good mouthfeel, with well-chosen carbonation, but a touch watery. Medium body. Aroma: mild: sweet dark malt; noticeably hoppy; slight hints of smoke and dark fruits. Taste: light for style, but otherwise without serious flaws. Has the hoppy tinge expected of an American Porter. O - A quality porter. Good value as part of Dundee ’craftpack’.
2.8 12oz bottle, from Party Source for $1.40 on the close-out shelf. Clear, dark red / brown color. Thin tan head, that fades a bit. Leaves decent lace. Medium body, lighter carbonation. Chocolate, some dark fruit. Lightl sweet nutty character to it, like marzipan. More sweet taste, overall. Chocolate is kind of the artificial, syrupy variety. Some molasses - type flavor to it. Overall, not impressive, but not too bad, either. Tolerable, and decent to wash a sandwich down with.
2.7 Dark brown with a red tint. Clear held up to light. Short lived tan head with minimal lacing. Aroma is more sweet than roasted malts. Taste is tame. A little caramel with a little bitter hop. Roasted malt, coffee and chocolate are very muted for a porter. I would not be upset if I brewed this, but I would not market it.
3.2 Chestnut in color with fluffy off-white head and lacing. Thin mouth feel with lingering caramel/toffee flavor. Aroma is inviting with the roasted malts and caramel.
3.2 Weak ruddy aroma. Pours brown with a white foamy head. goes down smooth with a coffee/chocolatey flavour.
2.8 12oz bottle. Pours a dark brown with a red tint, half inch of tan foam. Aroma of malts, hops, dark chocolate. Tastes of heavy hops with a biting alcohol after taste and some roastiness.
4.2 This beer is a reddish brown with a cream colored head that is quite prominent, and the aroma is strongly roasted malts with a hint of chocolate. The thin body sticks out, but the strong umami and slightly sweet taste don’t make you forget this beer. Also, the abrupt finish, flat carbonation, and the slick texture compliment each other nicely.
3.1 bottle. deep brown color. malty as it warms. not as flavorful and nutty as i wanted. decent and drinkable. but nothing to remember from this overpriced sample pack
2.7 Pours a translucent brownish-black from the bottle with bubbly khaki head and good lacing. Aroma is basic barley, taste is a little more roasted and coffee, but light. Light body and easy to drink, but nothing exciting.
