Duvel Green / Draught / Single Fermentation

Duvel Green / Draught / Single Fermentation

Editor’s Note: This is the draught beer known variously as Duvel Green/Draught. It is most commonly available in the US and UK, but not in Belgium. This is NOT the same beer as the bottled Duvel Groen. It is NOT the same beer as regular Duvel, which is also a strictly bottled product.

4.0 Pale yellow, fleeting white head. Biscuit, grain, grass on the nose. Light pear. Flavor is crisp and dry, slight touch of sweetness in the mid palate. Dry finish
3.9 From a 16 oz. can that is stamped on the bottom: L52538=066818-BBE 22-06-2019. Not sure if that means it is past it's expiration date. Golden pour with a quick lasting white head. I pick up grassy and floral notes on the nose along with some Belgian yeast and white bread and biscuit. Maybe pear. Smooth light to medium mouthfeel and crisp. The flavor starts sweet and the bright hops kick in at the finish. Dry finish.
4.0 I’ve bought this on many occasions but never rated it because I thought it was the same as Duvel Groen - anyway, I quite enjoy this beer - it’s elegant in its simplicity - dry, crisp, moderately bitter - a nice peppery character from the yeast - nicely flinty on the tail end - a tiny bit of tartness - tasty.
3.8 Really tasty Belgian ale. I’d like to compare it to the bottle fermented version, side by side, to see how much the flavor differs.
3.8 Nice Belgian Ale, I was confident that Duvel would not disappoint, which was the case. Nothing beats the Belgian in doing a Belgian style.
3.1 Pint can purchased in Nashville. Pours a bright gold with a head of tiny white bubbles. Aroma is clean, but uncomplicated. There is a tiny amount of yeast and a noticeable amount of alcohol. Flavors are spicy hops and a light sweetness. Alcohol isn't rough, but is present in the finish. I think the lack of flavor allows the alcohol to be more noticeable than I would like. This is indeed refreshing, but so is cold water. I want more flavor.
3.6 gedronken van tap in het spoorhuis in weelde statie een goud blond kleurig lichaam met een grote witte kop en met een kruidig gist fruitig hop aroma een kruidig gist graan fruitig zoet hop droge bitter smaak met een bitter einde
3.9 Pint can poured into a pint glass. The beer is a clear yellow with a white head of foam. The aroma has notes of lemon peel, honey, and herbal tea. Sweet and fruity taste. Medium body and medium carbonation.
3.7 Aroma is grains and lemon. Taste is yeast, grains, bitterness builds to the end. Texture is crisp.
3.7 Draft pours Golden with a white head. Aroma of fruit and yeast. Taste is nice yeast and some grains
3.2 Keg at six degrees north Edinburgh. Pours clear golden, nose is lemon, mango, caramel, candi sugar, taste is sweet, grassy, toffee.
3.5 One pint can. Pours a pale gold with a thin white head. Sour Belgian smells with some barnyard. Mild sour tastes balanced but not too distinctive. Dry mouthfeel with above average carbonation. Drinkable and interesting.
3.2 Can @ Friends/Dr yeast. Appearance: pours clear yellow with ok white soapy head and lacing. aroma/taste: barley, bread, light citrus, grass, light spices/cloves and floral notes. palette: medium hoppy and yeasty aroma, average to light sparkling carbonation, medium body, medium sweetness, balanced by a medium bitterness, average duration and a watery texture. Overall: smooth and refreshing Belgian ale
3.5 Backlog, draft in Philly in 12 or 13. Pours a lightly hazy golden with large head and nice lace. Nose is flowers, belgian yeast, grass, grains, and biscuit. Body is light to medium with a fair bit of carbonation.
3.8 On tap at the Brick Store Pub. Pours a clear, bright, golden color, with a big, frothy, white head. The nose is lemon zest, cream, hay, mild yogurt, and cloves. Sweet and yeasty, with a mild bitterness. Light body, with a crisp, silky palate. Mellow and very well done.
3.9 Pale light gold, thin but steady white head. Nose is is pils malt and noble hops. Middle is creamy malt, crisp pear, herbal hops. Finish is bright spicy hops and a medium body. Similar to it's big brother in quality with a little less punch.
3.2 Pint can from World Market. Pale clear gold with a white head. Aroma is dried flowers, hay, grass, wet cardboard, grain. Flavor is grain, yeast, coriander, wheat, grass, bubblegum, light pine.
4.2 It poured a clear pale yellow color with a thin white head and minimal lacing. The aroma is a light floral with Belgian yeastiness and peppery. The mouthfeel is light. Very tasty.
3.8 Restrained aroma in a yellow gold pour. Flavor profile is a testament to the dominance of yeast; apple, bubblegum, banana, clove, and other spices all make an appearance. Is there any wonder why the Belgians are the masters of beer? Followed closely by the Americans...
3.7 Can. Golden with one finger head. This is such an underrated style. Light body, estery with clove and bubblegum. Light hop crispness. Light and crushable.
3.5 Can. Clear straw color, small white head. Aroma of yeast. peach, banana notes, bit of clove, spice. Taste follows nose. Good.
3.5 Ar: Banana, clove, and peach skins--all very pointed and refined; crackers; black pepper. Ap: Straw golden and crystal clear; medium white head with good retention, leaving a gooey cap of foam that slowly recedes and leaves a swiss-cheese pattern of lacing along the glass sides. T: Banana, peach, and rosy alcohol; chalk; almost no sweetness; a little anise; super clean cracker malt flavor; bitterness is medium, with an herbal noble hop flavor; fruit skins, somewhat tannic; clove and black pepper; finish is bitters, grass, and zesty dark spice. P: Medium-light body with medium-high carbonation; dry finish. O: An easy-drinking, little brother of Duvel; similar flavors, and pleasant to drink, but lacking the flavor and carbonation punch of the original bottled product.
2.1 Pours a nice gold from a can, thick white head. Skunky banana aroma and flavor, watery, some melon. Sweet cornwater up front then finishes bitter. Meh.
3.1 Copper body, ok head. The aroma is sweet alcohol esters and fruitiness mixed with just a touch of bready Belgian yeast. On the palate this one is also rather estery and fruity with some ether notes and some notes of Belgian liquid yeast with a bit of doughyness.
3.6 very nice Belgian on tap at sharp edge bistro. bjust very light color. otherwise very drinkable.
3.9 16.9 oz can at Star Bar. Fairly clear yellow with a medium head. Spicy aroma with lots of pepper, cracker, light banana, grapefruity hops are evident. I wasn't expecting such an American hop delivery but it shines in the flavor. Lemon, Ritz crackers, and spices come through. Very good, rich pilsner malt flavor. Finishes dry, palate is spritzy and a little thin compared to the creamy, lively regular Duvel. Nice grapefruit rind notes develop. This is like a simpler, hoppier Duvel. With more of a "drink it out of the can on a warm day" attitude. Still plenty of attention to detail though.
4.2 500 ml can into signature tulip glass, best before 6/22/2019. Pours crystal clear pale golden yellow color with a 2 finger fairly dense and rocky white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice dense soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big lemon, peach, pear, red apple, melon, peppercorn, white grape, light banana/clove, cracker, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, pale malt, and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big lemon, peach, pear, red apple, melon, peppercorn, white grape, light banana/clove, cracker, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/floral/grassy bitterness and peppery yeast spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of lemon, peach, pear, red apple, melon, peppercorn, white grape, light banana/clove, cracker, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, pale malt, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with an awesome malt/bitterness and spicy yeast balance; and not astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from bitter/spiciness and carbonation. Medium-plus carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy/sticky, and fairly crisp balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 6.8%. Overall this a fantastic Belgian pale ale! All around outstanding omplexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, pale malt, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; very smooth and fairly crisp/refreshing to drink with the modestly bitter/spicy/drying finish. Fantastic balance of classic Belgian yeast complexity, clean pils malts, and earthy noble hop presence. A highly enjoyable offering, and spot on style example as expected.
3.7 500ml can from Brewers Haven. Pours a pale, clear golden, small, but lasting, creamy head. Aroma brings in the yeast, honey, pale malts. Taste is sweet, more of the Belgian yeast, dry bitterness. And the mouthfeel is superb, creamy and smooth. Duvel strikes gold again.
3.4 Can (BB Apr 16, 2019). Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is light yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (cracker), lightly to moderately hoppy (flowers, herbs), lightly to moderately yeasty (cobwebs, basement), with light notes of lemon zest, pepper, alcohol. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Better than Duvel is nowadays, IMHO. More drinkable, more brightly aromatic. Doesn't look like much and the mouthfeel is kinda flimsy, but it's pretty decent. It's a bit too "safe" and unexciting to buy again, but it's certainly enjoyable.
3.4 Pour is a crystal clear golden with a large white head. Aroma is some sweet malt with a nice floral hop. Flavor is a nice pils malt with a bit of floral fruitiness. Not much of a aftertaste which means I'll probably drink this way too fast. Decent golden ale with some fruity esters popping out here and there.
