Raised in an almost cruel state of total darkness, our Black Strap Stout delights in being the complete opposite of a light beer. This one has full-flavor, full-depth, full-life, and of course full-carb. See it brought squinting into the light for the very first time in your glass. The humane thing to do is finish the pint before the protective head burns off.

3.8Draft at the Beer Trmple. Black pour with massive brown head. Roasted aroma with chocolate, malt and coffee. Flavour of dark chocolate, roasted malts and a little dark fruit. Medium to low carbonation and medium body. Very good considering the low ABV for the style.
3.6Pours a pitch black color with not much head or lacing. Aromas of chocolate, charcoal, smoked vanilla, and maltiness. Taste is very eas drinking for a stout of this quality. Restrained roastiness, taste is similiar to aroma.
3.4Draught@Pikkulintu
Deep, opaque black color, steady creamy brown head. Strong tobacco in the roasted nose, Medium-bodied. Coffee, tobacco dominate the flavor. Some licorice. Soft palate, maybe oat has been used. Tobacco also in the aftertaste. Nice, drinkable strong porter.
3.4Keg.
Pours pitch black, with a brown head.
Off-dry, medium body and bitterness, balanced CO2.

3.6(Draught at Pikkulintu, 20120222) The beer poured pitch black. Its head was huge and light brown. Aroma had roasted malts, liquorice, coffee and hops. Palate was medium bodied and soft with medium carbonation. Flavours were roasted malts, burnt malts, ash, hops, liquorice and bitterness. Aftertaste was roasty, burnt and bitter. A soft and dry stout with long lasting and quite harsh but still pleasant taste.
3.6Draft @ Beer temple. Aroma is roasty malt, liquorice, chocolate.
FLavour is smooth roasty goodness with a touch of chocolate, thin but good.
3.9Draught @ Pikkulintu, Helsinki
Pours pitch black with a massive smooth brown head. Aroma of licorice, chocolate, malts and salmiakki. Taste is "wet", salty and roasty with a lot of licorice and notes of fruits, coffee and chocolate. Finish is salty with some roasted chocolate notes. Tasty, well balanced wet and salty stout.
3.9Draft. Classic imperial stout; this is everything you’d want from an imperial stout from the first scent to the final aftertaste. Complex mix of roast malt and coffee scent over a jet black body and intricate lacing. The palate was a thick and chewy bodied stout, and the taste was kicked off by a roasted coffee note, strong, that melded into a more complex chocolate/licorice aftertaste as it warmed.
3.0+ geur is hetzelfde als van een Yeti, karamel
- smaak bitter, had meer verwacht, ligt karamel.
+ mooie kraag, net chocomel schuim
3.8On keg at the Craft Beer Co. Pours a very dark brown colour with a thin tan head. Aroma of chocolate, liquorice, caramel, alcohol and a little smoke. Similar flavours. Mildly bitter with moderate carbonation and an oily mouth-feel. Alcohol is fairly present with a dry finish.
3.5Tap at Craft Beer Co. Pours a thick dark brown with a thin but un-moving cafe-creme head. Lychee, mango, grapefruit and coconut aromas are tempered by an almost cosmetic lipstick smell (I examined the glass carefully but could find no trace of lipstick). Creamy and a little tart on the palate, the initial coffee hit flows into vanilla before dissolving into grapefruit wreathed in coconut. There is a lingering dry prune and raisin aftertaste. A delightful stout but that slight cosmetic aroma jarred with the rest of the flavours.

On tap at the Craft. Opaque black beer, little tan head. Smooth palate with some body, semi dry. Rich dark malt, slightly ashy. Very slight lacto. Crisp minerals. Trace of something plastic well buried. Hints of coffee and fruit. Finishes semi dry. Seems to be popular with the punters at the time of purchase. Can’t say I am that enamoured. It a somewhat skewed beer that doesn’t quite hand together.
3.6On tap @ Beer Temple. Black color, nice thick mocha colored head. Aroma’s of (ground) coffee, soy sauce, roasted malts, somewhat acidic, some malty notes in the background. Flavor is roasted, slightly acidic and lightly sweet. Medium body, soft carbonation. Finishes with more roast and medium bitter. Nice craft stout.

3.2Draught at Craft Beer Co., London. Very black, lively beige head. Heavily roast ywith full body and clean, spritzy mouthfeel. Hoppy greapfruit combines with licorice roastiness, all diluted by severe over carbonation. Long inky bitterness.
3.9Draught@Craft Beer Co, London. Pitch black colour, small off-white head. Aroma is coffee, liquorice and some mild sour berries as well. Flavour is fruity, wooden, some pleasant spicyness, liquorice and mild alcohol and ashes as well.
3.5Keg at Craft Beer Co. It pours opaque black, with a thin tan head. The nose is smoke, leather, roasted malt and salted caramel. The taste is roasted malt, lingering smoke, treacle, tar, ash, burnt malt and salted caramel, with a dry-roasted finish. Medium body, fine carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. Decent.
3.7Keg at CBC, London. Pours oily brown-black with a strong, brown head. Cocoa, roast, licorice aroma. Medium sweet flavor, decent smoke character, some peat, cocoa, mocha. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Touches of smoke to finish, roasted cocoa, toasted sugar, light molasses. A very nice beer.
3.9Keg at Craft. Black with a creamy golden beige head. Aroma is roasted malt, very smoky, bit of bacon and something sweet in there too, maybe honey. Taste is smoky, bitter, small touch of coffee, bit of wood and some brown bread. Oily and thick in the mouth. Slight bitter finish with a slight boozy glow and fading smokiness. Quite a warmer in spite of it only being 6.2%. Nice.
3.6Black with a lasting, light brown head. Aroma of licorice, treacle, and grassy hops. Sweetish, intense licorice flavour with a hoppy finish
4.0This is a great beer out of Pittsburgh. Smokey bitter taste. Has almost a bacony taste

3.7Beer No. 91 on my tour through Austria, Germany and Denmark.
On tap at Mikkeller bar, Copenhagen. Courtesy of and shared with Papsoe (thanks a lot!) Pitch black coloured, small to medium sized brown head, roasty nose with hint of mold. Roasted malt, dark chocolate and light licorice with whiff of smoke in the finish. Nice stout.
3.5One of Pitsburgh’s finest!!! Aroma was nice, sweettness on top of the roast / toast of a great stout. Had plenty of earthiness to it. Dark as night with lasting head and lacing. Great tasting but too sweet (prefer a dry to a reg stout). Blend that is too sweet to balance with the nuts, earth and coffee. Smooth, rich and creamy. Almost no carbonation, which I love.
3.9A: Dark black-brown body... moderate khaki cap... some lacing left on the glass
S: Molasses, roasted coffee, toffee, dark and bittersweet chocolate.. no sign of booze
T: Much like the nose... dominated by molasses and a roasted malt character which has noticeable coffee, toffee, chocolate and caramel tones... again no sign of booze.. which is good because the flavors are delicate
M: Good carbonation, medium body... clean finish.. slight bitterness
O: Pretty solid.. the molasses is a little distracting by the finish... a quality stout that really impressed me.
3.8Tap @ Bishops Arms, Cph.
Pours deep brown, almost black. Small, creamy, deep-beige head. Good duration. Aroma has liqourice, dark chocolate, light coffee. Medium to high carbonation, fine dry, fluffy and light mouthfeel. Flavour is dry, bitter, lots of dark chocolate. Soft coffee-notes, mild roasted. Elegant, soft and very well-made stout.
3.9Tap@mikkeller bar. Black black two finger foam. A lot of roasted coffe notes. Some malty dryness as well as some sugar molasses. Oily licorice finish. Great complex well done brew.
