3.9 33cl bottle. Pitch black pour with a tall tan head with good retention. Roasted malts, cherries, brewed coffee as well as roasted coffee beans, pine resin. Medium bodied with soft carbonation and a hoppy chocolate bitter aftertaste.
3.7 Thank you to Tom for this very thoughtful gift. Pours very dark brown in color with a medium dark tan head. The aroma is roasted and malty, with coffee, chocolate, a little bit of smoke, grapefruit, and pine. The taste has a good amount of bitterness. There is grapefruit and pine, a very heavy coffee, chocolate, resin, and pineapple. I find a mild yet lingering coffee aftertaste. Medium bodied, kind of a sticky texture, and above average in carbonation. This is a solid Black IPA. And the artwork on the bottle is pretty cool as well.
3.9 02-04-2016, Delft Doerak van de tap Lekkere black IPA! Smaakt heel erg goed. Mooie kleur en caramel schuimkraag.
3.9 sample from draft at van moll, poured a murky dark brown colour with a tanned head. nose has a lot of coffee upfront, lot’s of dark malts, chocolate, wich pretty masks the hop notice. grapefruit in the back, with some citrus, taste is quite dry, sweet chocolate, and coffe. finish has still a nice bitter hop kick to it. enjoyable black ipa

3.6 New rating: 0.33 l bottle sampled during Pampus tap takeover at ’HOPPA!’, 2016 version, best before end 2017. Black with a frothy, brown head. Roasty-malty, just slightly fruity aroma of coffee, dark chocolate, burnt nuts and hints of mango. Roasty-malty, slightly fruity taste of coffee, dark chocolate, burnt nuts and hints of mango, followed by a medium long, roasty-bitter finish. Medium body, slightly creamy mouthfeel. Not a huge difference to the ’aged’ 2014 version, a tad more fruity but also a bit roastier and drier, overall less a of Black IPA than their ’Hoppy Stout’. Old rating: 0.33 l bottle from ’Tabak’s Wijndiscount & Bierwinkel’, best before end 2016 (apparently the 2014 version, 2016 version was actually already in the stores...). Clear, very dark red to black with a thin, frothy, stable, brown head. Sweetish-malty, slightly roasty aroma of milk chocolate, coffee beans, vanilla and hazelnut, hops are barely detectable. Sweetish-malty, slightly roasty taste of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee beans and hazelnut, followed by a short, roasty-bitter, minimally hoppy-fruity finish. Medium body, slightly creamy mouthfeel, flat. With some age, this is a very nice stout/porter. Will try to find a fresh example to compare. (7/4/7/3/14/3.5)
3.7 Drinking from a 33cl bottle. A strong coffee aroma. The clear black beer has a small brown head. In the taste coffee, dark chocolate, roast malt. Low carbonated.
3.5 W aromacie czekolada i nuty chmielowe, nieco żywiczne, słonecznikowe, nieco popiołowej paloności. w smaku bardzo podobnie, czekolada, chmiel, podwyższona pełnia, i brak odczucia alkoholu. Dobre Black IPA. Thanks @Douberd.
4.0 Bottl brought back from Amsterdam. Pours black with a nice big frothy beige head. Good rich coffee aroma. The flavour starts with light spice and lots of coffee before a bitter finish. No where ear as hoppy as I was expecting - the flavour is all coffee and roast malts. Extremely tasty all the same.
4.1 Ziet er uit en ruikt sterker dan een dubbel IPA, meer imperial stout. Niet verkeerd natuurlijk. Wel hoppige smaak. Lekker!
3.8 Aroma: Moderate-heavy malty, roasted, chocolate, licorice, moderate hoppy, grapefruit. Appearance: Clear dark brown with an average beige head. Taste/Palate: Moderate/heavy sweet and bitter, roasted, dark malts, chocolate, licorice and hops.
3.5 (Keg at Gastropub Tuulensuu, 20151230) The beer poured black. Its head was medium sized and lightly brown. Aroma had ash, pine and mildly fruitiness. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were pine, liquorice, burnt malts, ash and bitterness. Aftertaste had ash, liquorice and bitterness. A decent black IPA but too burnt.
4.0 Dry and rough, rusty licorice candy, stubborn rebel. Love this! Backlog from 2014/06/03.
3.9 330ml bottle. Black color with beige brown head. Roasted malty and hoppy aroma, chocolate, coffee, grassy, pine. Sweet and bitter taste like aroma. Medium oily body with soft carbonation.
4.0 330ml bottle. Jet black colour with late awakening, average to huge, thick, creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, ochre-ish brown head. Chocolately and slightly roasty, dark malty aroma, notes of espresso, hints of molasses, treacle, a touch of cocoa, some liquorice spiciness, relatively cautious, resinous hoppy overtones with hints of grapefruit. Taste is bitter, roasty dark malty, chocolately, notes of espresso and mocha, a touch of treacle and liquorice, citrusy fruity hoppy notes of orange, mandarine and grapefruit; oily texture, soft and smooth palate. Very chocolately, malt accentuated Black IPA. Yummy!
3.7 33 cl bottle (8% abv). Pours black color with a medium sized beige head. Chocolaty aroma, roasty, malty and quite hoppy, slightly fruity also. Flavor has roasted malts, licorice, dark cocoa, orange and subtle red berry notes, there’s a fair amount of hops too. Very bitter and dry palate, sweetish chocolaty finish. A bit rough around the edges, decent still. 442
3.5 Draft at Gents Bierfestival. Roast, bitter, sweet candy, malty. For a Black IPA this needs much more hops and exotic fruits.
4.4 Wow really amazing and balanced black ipa. From the first smell which forebodes the roasty goodness with piney and resiny fruits to the lasting aftertaste with bitter chocolate and pineapple. The bitterness is really perfect. It leaves your mouth watering for more. ---Rated via Beer Buddy (iOs)
3.5 22/08/2015 – sample (bottle) @ Gents Bierfestival shared with JorisPPattyn, Sebletitje, 77ships & PriorL Dark brown with beige head. Roast, coffee, hops bitter, some sweetness. Not bad, but far from the best one I already had
4.2 Draft @ Gents Bierfestival 2015. Dark brown colour, very nice layer of beige foam. Medium carbonation. Lots of roasted malts, coffee with bitter grassy hoppy finish. Full body but easy drinkable. Very good BIPA!
3.7 (Thx! for sharing) Sampled draft @ Gents Bierfestival 2015. Tasted pretty much the same as “Eem / Pampus Dark Hops” to me. Dark brown / black, dark mocha head. Nose is sweetish, bitter roast, candy, sugar, sweetness dominates a bit too much for the style in my opinion. Taste is herbal bitter, light licorice, plenty of candy, sugar & malt sweetness. Body is a bit syrupy. Decent but I would expect more hops from this style & less sweetness. Okay ‘though for sure. Earlier Rating: 8/23/2015 Total Score: 3.7 (Thx! for sharing) Sampled @ Gents Bierfestival 2015. Dark brown, thick mocha head. Nose is bitter roast, sweetness dominates here, some sugar & candy, weaker hops than expected. Taste is herbal with some roast, sugar, some grape, licorice, lightly herbal, creamy,… Decent but little hops for a BIPA. Expected a bit more here to be honest.
4.0 Dutch BIPA with creamy, stable, light yellowish beige head and very dark burgundy colour bordering on black. Lovely, fragrant aroma of pine resin, coffee, grapefruit, walnut, baker’s chocolate, toasted bread, orange peel. Dried fruits in the mouth, blue plum, very nutty and caramelly, smooth, with a chocolatey edge; roasted bitterishness comes in the end and lends a juicy malt quality to the finish, expectedly paired with an aromatic, peppery, piney and citrus-peel like hop bitterness lasting quite long. This finds itself on the maltier side of the style, but it has complexity, balance and elegance galore - I love BIPAs and this is probably the best Dutch one I had so far.
3.6 A black beer, a head is small and brown. Aroma has coffee and chocolate, some pine and fruits. Taste has coffee and roastiness, liqurice, the hops are more noticable and in the aroma and the bitterness is at least medium, pine. Long and hoppy end. Medium bodied, low carbonation. OK, good bitterness.
3.7 Tap at Arend’s Nest. Shiny, pitch black, tall, fine, tan head. Rich, powerful nose of chocolate, licorice, coffee, cream, pine, orange. Sweet, dark chocolate, orange, little roasty, very bitter finish. Touch harsh, but overall very nce.
3.7 330 ml bottle bought at Amsterdam about a year ago. Black body, with a big, frothy, rocky, lacing, dark beige head. Aroma of nuts, cocoa, dark chocolate, some coffee, earth, some smoke, some dark fruits, subtle citrus. Taste follows this, with some more bitter, resinous and grapefruit like hop notes. Medium, slick mouthfeel, with a moderate carbonation. Finishes roasty-bitter, quite dry, zesty, a bit wooden, with cocoa, coffee. Very nice. Still quite a lot of hops noticable after a year. The dark malts are well balanced and pretty manifold. Overall an enjoyable BIPA with quite a lot of character.
3.8 330ml bottle at home shared by Saeglopur, many thanks. BB "end 2016". almost a gusher. dark brown color, a lot more head than more of coffee-color. smells malty roast, smoked, some spices, reminds me of BBQ, light peat notes, some leather, soap, herbs. full body, light carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes of ash, peat, spices, malty roast, bitter chocolate, lightly creamy, light herbs. finishes with malty roast and some ash and peat notes. Interesting one, not so many hop notes left, overall (especially no the taste) quite a lot of roast / ash / peat notes. I like it though.
3.7 Deep brown, almost black pour, with a thick tan head. Roasted malt, citrus, pine aromas, a little coffee. Taste is sweetish, bitter, a little roast, some pine and citrus too. pretty good
3.6 KRS 240115. Dark brown colour with a beige head. Aroma is chocolate, licorice, hop, roasted malt. Flavour is roasted malt, coffee, pine, chocolate, licorice. Nice beer.
3.5 Bottle shared at Leighton’s, thanks to LKS. 2014 edition. Cola black, red hue, small foamy tan head. Aroma is molasses, ash, coffee, pine, yeast. Body is medium, slightly foamy, low carbonation. Taste is toffee, roasted malts, ash, salty finish. Solid BIPA.
