3.9 The Aromas are toffee malt and roasted barley. Flavors are similar to knows a little sweet upfront with a little bitter in the back good carbonation and with some spicy qualities. Body is a touch on the thin side but not bad. Decent enough winter bock.
3.4 Bottle. Thx Rasmus39! It pours dark ruby with a creamy off white head. The aroma is caramel, toasted malt, dark fruit and toffee. The flavor is moderate sweet and light bitter.
3.3 Aroma: Malty sweet with dried fruits. Flavour: Malty and fruity sweet with a tart bitter finish. Colour: Brown with an offwhite head.
2.7 12-06-2019; bottle; at home (bought somewhere in Germany). The beer looks nice. The beer has a dark copper colour, approaching brown. The beer has a nice bright glow. It is absolutely crystal clear. On top there is a layer of nice greyish-brown foam. Foam retention is average. The aroma of the beer is fine. Malts are giving some carrell and toffee. They are quite bready. Hops are herbal and spicy, with leafy undertone. A bit rough maybe. There is a metallic note there somewhere that isn't worlds greatest. The yeast aromas are also quite rough. Alcohol gives a simple aroma. Almost mediocre. The taste is comparable. Sweet malts, slightly rough bitterness from the hops and a sour note from the yeast. The flavours are not completely balanced. It could use a bit more balance to be honest. The palate is fine. Medium body, slightly rough and sticky texture and medium carbonation. The finish of the beer is not that great. It has some metallic notes and a leaf-like thing going on. The end is slightly dry. All in all, not worlds best Bock beer. Not bad, but definitely room for improvement.
3.4 Pour is a clear dark brown with a sper large tan head. Aroma is a decent rich toasted malt with a little dark fruit lingering in there. Flavor is again a rich dark fruity malt with some butterscotch. Pretty straight forward decent dopple.
3.9 Pours clear ruby mahogany with a full, tan head. Aroma is dried fruit, caramel and light nuts. Taste is raisin and caramel, moving to almonds, light tart cherries and roast. Finish is roast and tart cherry. A very good doppelbock.
3.7 Bottle from Bruisin' Ales. Pours ruddy copper with a foamy beige head. Mildly roasty malt aroma - European style aroma. Don't get this in USA beers. Med body or nearly. Flavor is mildly roasty malt with a bit of non-Saaz hop. Definitely not dry. Bitter enough. Nice flavor!
3.6 .33l bottle. Pours an orange brown witha white fast dissipating head. Big dried fruit scents of raisins and plums. The flavor is malty with a sweet finish but a nice fizzy finish and some alcohol labor and warming, pumpernickel tastes. A very nice doppelgänger.
2.6 Bottle. Clear dark amber with white head. Aroma is toasted bread, caramel. Somewhat sharp alcohol but not very bitter. Low sweetness.
3.4 330 ml bottle. Pours with a white head over a clear red brown body. Significant aroma and taste of brown bread crust and caramel. Balanced with a little spiciness.
3.2 Bottle 33cl. @home poured into a teku glass. Weak nose; clear ruby red, good frothy beige head, dissipates quickly; aroma toasted malt, grain, caramel, light black currant; tastemedium sweet and light bitter, malty, grainy, caramel, raisins; malty sweetbitter aftertaste, herbal notes, light alcohol; medium body, oily texture; not bad but lacks depth.
3.1 Poors clear ruby red, with big light brown foam. Nice color. aroma is sweet, malty. Likewise taste. Nice beer. (Velp 201812)
3.5 Beautifully clear ruby pour with a tan head; unfortunately falling down quickly. Doesn't get its points through the aroma: mainly roast malts. But the taste is wonderful: caramel, light sugary, medium but not too sweet; soft bitter, with a surprisingly dry aftertaste. OK carbo.
4.0 Bottle from Appie @ home. Clear deep rubyredbrown color. Firm light beige head with a thin layer retention. Aroma's of caramel, malts, wort/grain, a hint of red fruit. Retronasal: caramel, sweet, wort. Flavor is quite sweet somewhat roasted, with light bitterness. Medium bodied. Finishes with caramel and light bitterness. Classic German stuff.
3.5 Bottle from Albert Heijn supermarket in Gorinchem, The Netherlands. The beer is dark amber colored and has a large creamy head, with good carbonation. The aroma is malty, with notes of caramel, grains, bread, dried fruits, light chocolate and spices (cloves like). The taste is medium to full bodied and starts sweet with caramel, dried fruits and goes to light bitterness with chocolate and spices. Very nice balance between sweet and bitter. The finish is light bitter and a little dry.
3.5 Ruby red pour. A lot of spices in the nose (clovess?) but a really nice balanced and sweet bock
2.7 Bottle from AH. Dark burgundy brown with thin vanishing head. Low carb. Quite sweet with heavy malting and some green apple. Standard commercial
3.6 Doppelbock by the archetypical German style Bock producer, intended as a winter warmer. Bottle from an Albert Heijn supermarket. Yellowish pale beige, regularly shaped, moussy head, gradually dissipating and opening in the middle, clear (filtered), warm and pure copper robe with lovely, deep ruddy-bronze hue and vivid sparkling. Aroma of hot caramel, warm biscuit, maple syrup, fresh lavender leaves, fig compote, cloves, brandy, Rumtopf, cookies, almond cake, brown rum. Sweet, clean onset, fig and candy apple impressions, light basic sourish note, medium carbonation; slick, rounded, bit resinous mouthfeel, cookie- and caramel candy-like maltiness with a lightly bitterish toasty edge, soon drenched in warming, if not heating and eventually somewhat astringent brandy-like alcohol. Ends sweet (in a very pure malt way) and boozy as any Doppelbock should; the alcohol could have been a bit better hidden in order to lift this one up to the upper league of Doppelbocks, but otherwise this is a fine and indeed warming, very classically made example of the style, as expected from this brewery.
3.2 33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ Albert Heijn Culemborg. Ruby red brown with a thin white head. Malty caramel aroma. Sweet taste with a metallic earthy finish. Good as a bock, lacking in strength and taste as a doppelbock.
3.6 Bottle at home. Slightly cloudy amber colour, foamy light beige head. Sweet caramel, toffee, light coffee malty, clove, light bitterness: balanced but blend. Medium body and carbonation.
3.8 Beautiful ruby brown colour with weak white head and gentle bubbliness. Smell is fermenting fruit, pear and apple, caramel and toffee, subtle spiciness, slightly citric. Taste is full hitter sweet, quite heavy, molasses, dry fruity finish with smooth astringency leaving the mouth clear. I like the balance between the heavy sweetness and the spicy bitterness, nicely done.
Proef o.a. zoete moutige licht gerookte karamel. Proefglas
3.1 33cl Bottle from AH. Dark ruby brown colour, beige head. Aroma is sweet, caramel, brown sugar, light metallic, typical lager aroma, forest fruits. Flavour is sweet, malty, brown sugar, dark fruits, quite sticky and one-dimensional, soft bitterness. Light to medium bodied. Good I was in the mood for something sweet.
3.2 Dark ruby with a fast disappearing head and medium to low carbonation. A bit but not too sweet. Nice full flavor with some hop bitterness. There are elements of cloves and overripe fruit. Sticky texture.
Mooie helder robijnrode kleur, goed beige schuim. Volle smaak, ook karamel. Lekker.
3.4 33cl bottle at home, bought at Albert Heijn. Appearance: copper red with medium sized offwhite head. Aroma: just like a pilsener or lager. Malts, some caramel or brown sugar. Taste: high sweetness and medium bitterness. Notes of sweet malts, brown sugar, molasse and a hint of fruits. Palate: medium bodied, watery to sticky texture and medium carbonation. Overall: rather sweet, but not that fruity. Seems a bit like and imperial pilsener or amber ale to me.
3.6 9/2/18 - Tallahassee, Fl - Beer Stop - .33 litre bottle. Dark copper murky pour very brief off-white head. Sweet raisin-like aroma, some fresh canned baked brown bread. Belly-filling flavor, dose of molasses, some dates, hint of milk chocolate. Sticky mouthfeel. Would be a good winter warmer.
3.4 Kolor ciemnego bursztynu, klarowne. Piana ecru dość wysoka, z mniejszych pęcherzyków. Aromat słodowy, karmel, rodzynki alkohol. W smaku słód, karmel, owoce, trochę chleba, również trochę alkoholu.
