Eisenbahn Rauchbier

Eisenbahn Rauchbier

Eisenbahn’s Defumada, very much like the famous smoked lagers of Bamberg, Germany, is brewed with a special, smoked barley malt, giving it a rich, smoky flavor and aroma. A delicious and immensely satisfying lager. Ideal temperature: from 4 to 6 degrees

Note: Formerly known as Defumada.

3.8 Cerveja com aroma defumado marcante, coloração escura e sabor pouco amargo. Alc. 6,5%.
3.0 Tasted a small sample at a BeerThief gathering. A standard looking amber beer. Not bad. Aroma doesn’t have loads of smoke. Other aromas like toffee were ahead of the smoke. Very mild overall really. Not super exciting.
A clear copper beer with medium head. Nose is low, aroma is on smoked and caramel malt, dry, good Bavarian kind of smoked profile, bit astringent. Finish is on grassy hops and smoked notes, good, better than expected.
3.1 Rated on 4-06-2009 (Bottle) The Appearance when poured is a medium sized fizzy head, transparent orange body, fizzy, lively and fast rising carbonation, and one ring of lacing. The Aroma is caramel, sweet, malty, and smokey. The Taste is smokey, sweet and caramel. The Palate is fairly smooth and this beer is light-medium bodied. Overall, this beer is easy to drink, not over-the-top smokey tasting and worth trying.
2.8 Espuma pouco consistente, cor marrom avermelhada, bem clara e transparente.
3.0 Bottle. Not my favorite smoked beer by a long way but a tolerably one for sure. If you want some smoke and its all you’ve got it could work.
3.4 Cerveja "defumada" tipo Rauchbier. Gostei. 3.4.
3.6 Bottle. Poured a clear ruddy brown color. The head was a few fingers high and khaki. It reduced quickly to a thin, lasting film. Smelled of cured, smoked meat ala smoked beef jerky with a faint whiff of toffee. Medium bodied and sweetish with ample, but not overpowering, smoke. Toffee and raisin-like flavors were more prominent than the smoke. Relatively easy drinking smoked lager, not nearly as smoke-saturated as those from Bamberg.
1.3 Nao me agradou o paladar. Tem gosto de fumaça. Nenhuma das rauchbier que tomei ate hoje me agradaram.
2.9 Bottle. Cloudy copper brown body is topped by two fingers of off white head. Aroma is raisins and dark fruits, sweet malt mixed with light wood smoke Flavor is lots of dark fruit, some sweet grain, smoked meat. Finishes with mostly dark fruit sweetness and some smokey meatiness, which is not a combination I enjoy.
1.9 Bottle. Pours orange, with a light creamy head. Aroma doesn’t really have much about it, but there’s a small note of roasted malts. Flavour is a buttery caramel. A rather fresh beer, but nothing here really resembles smoke very much at all.
2.6 Cerveja bem interessante.
3.1 This is a weighty rauch with an enormous amount of sediments. The average joe beer drinker heads for the drain at this point, especially given the aroma. Subtle it is not; this beer is like a mesquite pit. It’s dark brown almost like dunkel. The taste is smokey sweetness with a minor bitter contrast. Thick, chunky texture which coagulates on the palate. A taste one must acquire for sure.
3.2 Bottle at Delirium Ipanema. It pours cloudy brown, with a thin off-white head. The nose is smoky, smoked meat and some caramel. The taste is only lightly smoked, caramel, dark fruit, umami character and alcohol warmth, with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Not bad.
3.5 Bottle. Reddish amber pour with a nice foamy offwhite head that dissipates. Smoked meat and something mildly vegetative on the nose. Taste is smoked ham, and it is delicious! Getting sensations of fall leaves, earth, and caramel as well. I really like this beer.
3.6 12 oz twist off "Defumada" bottle. Pours a red amber with a 1 centimeter white head that dissipates rather quickly. The smoke scent is incredibly subtle with dark malts in the forefront. The taste is rauchbier mixed with doppelbock and it works really well. It has hints of chocolate, coffee, and smoke. All of it is well balanced. It is a pretty good rauchbier. 3.1 Murky brown colour with little head. Aroma is malty, sweet and a little smokey with notes of caramel and toffee. Flavour is similar with a sweet malty caramel flavour with some toffee. I’d like to see some more smokeyness and I don’t like toffee taste in my beer. Pretty decent otherwise
3.1 Bottle. Poured a murky brown color with a small white head. Aroma was caramel, smoke, and malts. Flavor was ham, smoke flavors, malts, some coffee roasted flavors in the finish. Not the best beer. Drinkable though
3.3 Rather strange for an international beer to have a twist cap and not be really bad. Typical smoke flavor, not over the top, good complement to BBQ.
3.6 Thanks to my brother for sharing this beer. Always excited to try new smoke beers. Batch 04. The beer pours an amber color with an off-white head. The aroma is very nice. I get a lot of toffee malt with some smoke mixed in. The smoke is present, but far from overwhelming. The flavor is very similar. The first and main flavor that I get is a meaty smoke, but there is also a strong caramel and toffee malt backbone. As the beer warms I start to get some dark fruit notes that mix very well with the other components. Very easy to drink. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
2.5 12 oz. bottle from The Royale. Pint glass. Pours a cloudy amber with a ton of sediment and a small white head. Aroma has an oxidized cardboardy character right out of the gate, with some skunk, prunes, sugar, caramel malts, and metal. Girl next to me called it "stinky" and I couldn’t argue that. Smoked malts show up in the flavor along with sugar, toast, cracker, leaves, and grains. Medium-bodied, with mild carbonation and a sweet cardboardy mouthfeel. Not very good.
3.5 Bottle courtesy of Butters on 09/14/2010. Clear dark amber body with a medium creamy off-white head. Sweet smoke aroma with some bready and dark malts. Sweet smoke flavor, light bready, and molasses notes. Light body with moderate carbonation.
