3.633 cl swingtop, 6.5% abv. Label is "La Biere des Collines Saison" as pictured, without the "2000". Nearly opaque orange brown with a lasting disc of cream. Sweet nose of toffee and musty grape. Flavor is similar with added toast, wood, and a slightly sour earthiness to balance. Maybe a pinch of pepper, but not much. Medium body is velvety smooth, soft and easily drinkable. Good, but the flavor seems to fall off at the finish; lacking some depth.
3.3Bottle a hazy dark orange colored beer with a white head aroma malts fruits some sour and spices taste malts spices some fruits and hops
2.6Bottle: Pours a murky apple cider color. Minimal head with little to no lacing. Aroma of musty sour apples, taste is similar, not my favorite saison.
3.1Bottle. Creamy white good mostly lasting head. DArk yellow colour. Moderate malty and moderate hoppy aroma. Moderate bitter fla or. Week fruity notes. Average moderate bitter finish. Oily palate. A little boring.
3.0amber coloured body with a off white head a spicy yeasty fruity aroma a spicy yeasty sweet herby little fruity taste and a alcholic bitter finish
3.6I had a hard time tracking this one down on here. I started with "La Biere des Collines Saison", which is what the front label says. The bottle was left in Indianapolis over the weekend and I just had a picture of the front. Anyway, this has to be it. Swingtop bottle, 500 ml, from Wine and Cheese Place. Pours a cloudy gold color, hard to describe, with a half-inch eggshell white head that doesn’t hang around too long. Aroma of apples, lactic acid, lemon citrus, Belgian yeast, straw, and farmhouse funk. Flavor of farmhouse funk, straw, grass, dust, apples, pepper, and pale malts. Medium-bodied, with a yeasty mouthfeel and peppery finish. Light carbonation. Nice saison.
3.3Amber body, medium off-white head. Yeasty, perfumy aroma with raisins and orange peel. Taste is sweet up front with a slight alcoholic tone, but evolves very soon in a bitter chicory note. Medium-bodied. Slightly peppery aftertaste.
3.2After a reassuring pop from the tiny little swingtop bottle, a fruity and vinous aroma permeates the air. Some vinegar and tannic notes too. A vigorous pour yielded a finger of white head that lasted about eight seconds. Tiny white bubbles top the muddy apple juice colored liquid. More sniffing hints at sour and tart notes, not what I’d expect in a Saison. At first sip, the flavor is dry and dusty. Lots of barnyard funk, tannic, hay, grass, and very light fruity bits. Peppery, esters, malty, and musty. Very complex. Easy drinking in a way, but the peppery bits stick to the roof of my mouth and seems to linger...
3.3Amber/Orange hazy colour, light foam, yeast and fruit (orange?) in the aroma and even more so in the flavour that is quite rich. More hops than your std belgian ale. Perhapps a alittle to watery in the mouthfeel.
3.9Swing top bottle. Poured into an Orval goblet. Damn refreshing drinking...A very soulful Saison ,fulla texture. All the rural customs and vibez ... hay stacks, ,fruity esters (apple and peach) ...peppey hops covered in earth .. . The sweet maltines twined with peppery dryness iz awesome.
3.1Copper color with a thin white head. Brown sugary musty aroma. Dry, tastes of peach, apricot, and some funk. Quick finish.
3.9opaque copper, thin white head, med-body, med-co2.
aroma: sweet malt, very fruity, earthy.
taste:
T1= earthy.
T2= earthy, musty funk, wood, slight co2.
T3= diacetyl, musty tobacco leaf hops.
not very barnyard funky, estery, or spicy for a saison.
3.8Very smooth and easy to drink. Flavor is musty-malty, not as much on the light citrusy side. Has a tinge of funk. Overall enjoyable.
3.4Pours a hazy yellowish/gold color. Aromas of tart fruit, bread, hint of citrus, and yeasty. Flavor is malty/citrus. Leaves a yeasty orange aftertaste.
2.8Versa con un bel po’ di schiuma, strabordante, faticosa da contenere; aroma hmm qualcosa non va: pronunciatissimi sentori di lievito anche nel sapore. Bad bottle, bad luck. Prossima volta aggiornerò.
3.3330ml bottle that just reads "Saison", not "Saison 2000." Pours a cloudy, dingy, brown color. Very effervescent. European hops and funk dominate the taste. Refreshing on the palate.
2.7330mL Swingtop. This beer is a mess, from nose to appearance to finish. Pours a dingy dark dishwater sand color, with a whitish head. Aroma gives away wet cardboard, oxidized hops, and sloppy yeast. Flavor just amplifies all of this. Really dusty and strong Goldings hops, paired with walnut-flavored pale sugars, bread-like yeast, and some almonds. Somehow a bit boozy. This is just messy, nothing else to say about it. I think the trip across the sea might have been a little rough, but this is the bottle I bought.
3.1Bottle. Dull amber misting with detritus under a fine white slick. Aroma: baked beans, fading into sweet shrubby hop; marmalade, pine, medicinal honey notes, aniseed (those boiled herbal sweets crusted with sugar). Orange and polished pine in the mouth; slick and honeyed, some underlying oak and TCP. I’m not convinced the pairing of oak and lean sprucey hops really does it for me; the net effect is a bit Innis and Gun. So-so.
3.4This saison pours a hazed muddy straw into the glass, with an initially creamy head that reduces to a thin cap that leaves sudsy lace. The nose contains tart cherries, slight jerk spices, some peat and must. The bouquet really does jump out at you, but the flavors are more inline and subdued. Herbs and malt mix well, with smoky overtones throughout the pull. Complexities are not to be found heavy with this one. Carbonation feels heavier than normal, due to a rather thin body. An ok saison, I guess, but nothing I’d jump through hoops for to have again.
2.433cl swingtop bottle. Pours a dull hazy copper with low to medium carbonation- moderate head fades to a thin white cap- and some slight spotty lace. Aroma is sweet stale old musty malts, oxidation, cardboard, toast, sweet maple syrup, soy, and fruity dates and raisins- more of an old barleywine than saison. Flavor is a bit less sweet although still crackery stale and oxidized fades into a stale old mildewy pool water, withs ome herbs and phenols, flat backbone and almost comes around tasting like a very old musty fantome at some points. Light toffee and caramel malts, oxidation, not as much syrup or soy as the aroma, but definitely old, although the bottle looked new. Not as much tartness as the old aroma and flavor would suggest- body and aftertaste fades to almost nothing- very boring overall. Definitely past its prime. Forgot where I bought this?
3.0This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a large sized head of foamy finely sized off-white colored bubbles that were mostly diminishing and left behind a hazy with with yeast swirls softly carbonated orange brown colored body. The mild aroma was brown malt and musty. The crisp mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The flavor contained notes of hops and mild brown malt. A decent one that I would consider buying again.
3.1Minus mark on appearance due to the super lame fart of an opening. Soapy, slightly cheesy and a little disinfectant like. Very sweet. Lemony and a little spicy. I like it but find it a little boring and with some funny little nuances knocking around that I’m not too keen on.
3.533cl Swingtop bottle from De Bierkoning. Cloudy orange colour, creamy white head. Aroma of fruity yeast notes, oranges, bit of sugar. Flavour is sweet at first, peach, bitter oranges, spicy yeast, flowery wheat, drying grassy and dusty bitter finish. Dry mouthfeel, medium bodied. Nice, tastes and smells like a regular Belgian ale at first, and like a good Saison in the finish.
2.90.33 l swingtop bottle, two bottles provided by Elliott. Pour is mostly clear copper with a smallish white head. Aroma of iron, metallic, dirt, grain then some wheat. Some grass and toffee in there as well. Muddled nose. Taste is caramel, honey - very meaty sweetness. The metallic element comes through as well. Weird tasting. Palate is medium, almost no carbonation, finish is more of the metal. This was my least favorite Saison for the evening. Thanks for bringing these Elliott.
3.60.33l flippie - Nice, representative saison. Liked the bottle, but other than that forgettable.
3.6Amber colored murky body with some medium particles. Aroma of Flowers/Perfume. Light bodied with soft carbonation. Dry texture. Light citrus/grass flavor.
3.4Not my favorite style. A little funky on the taste for me. Taste of perfume and spice. Some honey and ripe fruit mixed in with the perfume. Interesting.
2.9Clear light amber pour topped by a frothy head. Smells lightly chalky with some toffee, grass, and honey. Flavor is grassy, biscuit, hay, ever so slight hint of funkiness. Has the typical carbonation of a saison but has a flatness to the mouthfeel. Not as dry as most either. Strange saison.
3.5Bottle from Brad, great extra! Lightly hazy copper pour. Aroma is fruity with yeast, sweet malt and some spice. Flavor is pretty smooth...lacks some funk that a lot of saisons do. But it makes up with some smooth spices, fruit, honey and malt. Interesting take on the style.
3.4Rich, dark golden color. Nice white head. Aroma of rich malt and honey. Thich, rich malt flavor with honey and fruit. Sweet and somewhat like aged sherry. (the bottle wasn’t very fresh…) Spicy. Much richer and heavier than your standard Saison. A surprise. Pretty good, but not really my idea of what a saison should be…
