Elysian Dragonstooth Stout

Elysian Dragonstooth Stout

A smooth and sturdy stout, made with 10% rolled oats, roasted barley and chocolate malt. The name is referential to the founders of Thebes, warriors who sprang from the earth when the teeth of a slain dragon were sown by Cadmus. Bittered with Chinook; finished with Cascade and Columbus hops.

4.8 Delicious. Picked up by accident at grocery store. Loved it
3.9 On tap at the Wilderness Lodge Disney World. Black with tan foam. Heavy lace. Roasty, coffee, chocolate aroma with a hint of dark fruit. Tastes roasty and a little bitter. Medium-full bodied and fluffy smooth.
3.5 Pours an inky black with a tan, lasting head. Smell is chocolate, coffee, and black licorice. Taste is chocolate malts with a lot of hoppy bitterness relative to other stouts. A good beer, but not a complex stout.
2.5 Bottle from Safeway in Redwood City, CA. Aroma is mild vanilla, mild chocolate, roasted malts. Taste is thin chocolate with a lot of hoppy bitterness. Very surprised at the high ratings here. I found this boring, disjointed and sharp bitterness (was expecting something more creamy, smooth with the oats).
4.0 Purchased in a bomber while traveling through Montana, a pleasing acquisition. Tilting into my New Belgium .47l snifter it comes out a midnight black while giving a thin, small-bubbled head steadily replenished by active carbonation. I get a whiff of raspberry and a stiff hit of chocolate. Taking a taste it is all business, burnt toast, charcoal, semi-sweet chocolate and a distinct hop factor. It finishes moderately bitter, a gift from the hops. Different from most imperial stouts I have tasted, it is quite enjoyable.
3.7 Bottle from a Safeway on the road from Seattle to Spokane. Poured into a nice plastic cup, jet black with a lasting, foamy, beige head that leaves lacing. The aroma contains cold coffee, some milk, (roasted) malt, caramel and dark chocolate. It tastes medium chocolatey sweet and light to medium bitter with a toasty finish. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, well-hidden alcohol. A smooth, drinkable Imperial Stout.
3.5 Tastes of overly roasted malts and burned coffee. Has a small tan head that stick around. Appears pitch black. And smells of burnt grain
4.1 Draft @ Monarch, PDX. Aroma is roasty, sweet. Black color with tan head, good lacing. Taste is fantastic! Roasty, a little chocolate, balanced sweetness and bitterness. Full bodied, creamy mouthfeel, nice oat contribution. A fantastic imperial oatmeal stout!

3.4 Sample at Strong Ale Fest 2016. Comes black with a decent tan head. Aroma of malt, chocolate, and vanilla. Taste is roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla, and coffee. Just average.
2.2 Roasted, smoky malts & a bit of bitter chocolates in aroma. Tastes similar with some hop bitterness towards the end. Full-bodied & dry finish. Alcohol’s hidden. Gets slightly better once warm, but it’s still a very basic, mediocre imperial stout. Boring beer & struggled to finish it.
3.4 Black, chocolate aroma, caramel, toffee, bread, flavor of chocolate, caramel, toffee, coffee, bread, medium bodied.

3.9 On tap. Pours a black color with a tan head and some lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, vanilla and hint of coffee. Taste of roasted malt, vanilla, trace of coffee and chocolate. 3.9 Lots of vanilla, roasted malt, sweet malty nose. And some caramel. Decent stuff.
4.0 Pours pretty much black, thin cappuccino colored head. Lots of char, smoke, leather and roasted fruit on the nose, plum, maybe raisin. This leads to a classic imperial stout taste...wood, burned oak, dark sweetness, roasted nuts, a dash of pepper in the finish. Nice full mouthfeel, creamy with a bite, well masked abv. Good beer.
4.0 8.1%ABV. Imperial stout. Poured out black. 40°SRM. Nose has coffee, black cherries, smoke, coffee, and liniment. Mouthfeel is juicy and watery. Palate has some nice charcoal, smoke and some nice plum preserve roundness. There is some spicy woodsmoke. Floral and light incense. Perfume-like. Some sandalwood in the palate and wormwood in the finish. Still get some nice sweet cherry in the finish. Finish is ume and dry and woody. Overall a very well-provisioned stout with good smoke, dark roasted malt and perfume-like character. Finishes off with some nice fruity character on the palate. Goes on Favorites List !
3.9 On tap at Westin Seattle’s restaurant. A black ale with a resilient beige head. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, hazelnut, molasses. Flavor is dark chocolate, burnt caramel, molasses and hazelnut. 4.0 Bottle 65cl / Botella 65cl @ Tanakaya Liquor Store, Tokyo, Japon A: Black / Negro. T/S: Roasted malt, chocolate, slightly bitter / Malta tostada, chocolate, ligeramente amargo.
3.8 Bottle. Pours black. Aroma and taste are roasted malts, chocolate, and some bitterness.
3.4 Draught at Keyaki. Dark chocolate, orange, definitely some soy sauce, the hops seem to give it a kind of black ipa edge, ok finish with light boozy notes. Decent dark brew but feels quite overhyped to me, not exactly an exciting import.
3.5 Tap at Keyaki. Nose of cocoa, coffee, soy sauce. Black and a bit flat. Flavor is decent, cocoa, soy sauce. Nice but not that special.
