Elysian Perseus Porter

Elysian Perseus Porter

A wine-dark beer, extremely drinkable and of medium weight, named for the slayer of the Gorgon and rescuer of Andromeda. Perseus Porter is slightly smoky with black and chocolate malts; bittered with Columbus and finished with German Northern Brewer hops.

3.3 On tap at St Augustine’s in Vancouver. A black beer with a bit of tan head. Fruity and malty on the nose. A passable rather thin porter. It seems the intent was to create a lighter porter, but this comes off as weak. 3.3.
3.2 On tap at Elysian Fields. Pours a deep brown color with white head. Roasty, nutty, malty aromas. Malty, toasty, roasty flavors.
3.3 On tap @ the brewery during 7/5/2014 Seattle beer tour. Pours a dark brown appearance with a light brown head. Roasted malty, dark chocolate, cocoa aroma. Light to medium bodied. S’mores flavor. Light smoke. A bit on the sweet side. Fine.
4.0 Chocolate, some nuttiness, and a nice roasted character. Weak body. Tried this at the DC beerfest with Jess, Mark, and Matt in 2014.
3.3 (Draught at brewpub) clear plum/brown, fine tan bubbles. Nose of nuts and their shells, mint, raisins and light English hops. Taste is nutty, cream lightly roasted, with a touch of butter. Very lightly bitter, more herbal than anything else, light nutty finish.
3.3 A little watery on the palate. Some roast and a little chocolate without being huge on anything. Finishes with light bitterness. Soft overall feel. Nothing memorable. Tap at DC Beer festival.
3.4 On tap at brewery. Pours a nice coffee black with a thin tan head. Nice roast nose, some malt. Very clean malts and coffee taste. Good beer.
3.5 herbs, caramel, roasty, toast, chocolate, coffee, leaves, brown, black, minimal head, medium sweetness, medium bitterness, umami, medium body, soft carbonation,
4.0 Dark brown, chocolate nose. Creamy palate with big chocolate flavor throughout. Med bodied and chocolate dominates this brew. Nice body and flavor throughout and finish is dry. Description says it has a smoky flavor as well, but I don?t get it...just cocoa. Orig rate 11/26/13..3.0. Had off draft at field house location. Creamy mouthfeel, mostly dark slight roast malt character. Has a sweet dark chocolate aspect. Medium full bodied, finish has a drying sensation. Slight cream like undertones. Pronounced hop bitterness and creamy chocolate/coffee flavors persist. This beer is very fresh tasting, awesome this go round.
2.6 Smells like sweetened trash. Tastes so strange. Not like a porter at all. Cereal, basil, cooked vegetables. No.
2.7 A pretty average porter. Pours a muddy brown with a light tan head. Smells good, like vanilla and coffee. Taste is basic porter, lots of coffee, and a slightly weird aftertaste. Had on tap at the brewpup.
3.7 Draft. Poured a dark brown color with an average frothy light brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate toasted dark malt, smoke and sweet chocolate aroma. Medium body with a smooth slick texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy toasted chocolate sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate to long duration. Solid complex brew.
3.6 Hazy brown color with tan lacing. Mild roasted aroma. Slightly smoky on palate. Not too heavy of a body. Good for the style.
3.8 Bomber. Notes from tasting session. Mild chocolate nose. A bit of chocolate on mid-palate. Some roast, burnt flavors grow on the finish and lasts. Very smooth and well balanced stuff.
1.9 On tap at Elysian Brewhouse, Seattle. Normal dark color. Boring and uninspiring aroma/taste...
3.2 Tap at Elysian Fields, Seattle - 09/11/12. Very dark mahogony brown with a thin tan head that retains as a small pond and at the edges. Nose is roast malts, leather, liqourice, molasses. Tastes of roast malt, chocolate, molasses. Medium bodied, light spritzy carbonation, dry finish. Touch above average.
4.1 A rich flavorful porter. Heavy espresso aroma and flavor. Starting to really like Elysian.
3.6 Light and tasty, very easy drinking for a porter. Dark brown with a small head. Nice malty aroma with some caramel and chocolate. Flavor follows suit. Almost a lawn mower porter.
3.7 Draft at the Khyber. Poured a very dark red brown that was opaque except under bright light. Frothy tan head. Nice dark malt character without being overly sweet. Dark chocolate. Charcoal. Surprisingly creamy texture though there are some nice dark pops on the tongue at the finish.
3.7 650ml bomber pours a dark brown almost black color with a finger and a half of light beige head that leaves some good lacing on the glass. Aroma is roasted grains with chocolate and coffee and a hint of smoke. Taste is roasted grain and hop bitterness with hints of coffee and a chocolate malty sweetness. Medium bodied with some modest carbonation. A little on the bitter side for the style, but still quite a good brew which I thoroughly enjoyed tasting.
3.6 Draft at the brewpub in Seattle. Pours a very dark brown color that’s completely opaque with a two finger light beige head that very slowly fades into a thick lasting ring.  Streaks and spots of lace left behind. Slightly smokey, deeply roasted dark malt aroma with hints of sweeter malts for balance.  Coffee bean, dark chocolate, coffee bean, smoked meats and oatmeal countered by sweeter chocolate, toffee and caramel.  I’m picking up some faint earthy hops as well. Lighter bodied than expected with a slightly smokey flavor.  Decent roasted malt presence with dark chocolate and coffee bean along with toffee and oatmeal.   Sweet and robust notes balancing each other out with some earthy piny hops toward the finish.  Pretty tasty but a bit light for my preference.
3.5 170712. Tap at elysian fields, seattle. Pours blsck with a nice medium head. Aroma roasted malts, chocolate. Medium dry bitter taste. Not Bad.
3.7 Draught @ Elysian Fields, Seattle. Pours deep dark red color with medium head. Aroma of dark fruits, chocolate and toasted malts. Flavour of toasted malts, chocolate and dark fruits. Smooth and dry palate. Nice. 4424
3.4 Location: Draft at Iron Monkey, 6/28/12 Aroma: The nose is pretty heavy on the dry roasted coffee malts, with little else present Appearance: It pours a dark brown color with medium sized beige head, and some lacing Flavor: The taste is pretty much the same as the nose, pretty much all unsweetened coffee Palate: This one is quite smooth, with a light-medium body, and a fairly dry finish Overall Impression: I thought this was a good (if maybe a little bit one-dimensional) porter. It felt a lot like a coffee stout to me, and the coffee was pretty much all I got out of this one. Still though, I enjoyed it. Elysian certainly makes some nice beers, and this fits that category.
3.7 On tap at Elysian Fields. Pours dark with minimal head. Smell is roasty chocolate, coffee. Taste is bold roast and a sweet finish. Very good porter.
3.2 From the tap poured a brown color with a fair amount of head. Light toasted malty flavor with a quick finish.
3.7 Draught at Terra Plata Seattle. Creamy porter with some roast. Not too heavy body. Slight lactose milk stout taste as well.
3.4 on tap at brouwers, man i I will this place!!!!nice smokey flavor and chocolate kick. aroma was strong of chocolate and hint of hop. nice brew, good time
3.3 Tap at Paradiso Georgetown. The pour is clear deep ruby looking near black in the glass with a medium, tan head leaving impressive sticky, webby lace. Nose is savory with small beef broth, heavy chocolate milk. Nothing too obvious but certainly not bad. Taste is richer than expected for 5.4% with chocolate ice cream and vanilla along with some creamy slickness in the finish like cream topped real yogurt. Thin palate overall. I think it’s time Elysian hired a new graphic designer.
3.5 Draught at St. Augustine, Vancouver Black color; creamy, beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, some yeast. The mouthfeel is quite smooth, with strong flavor of heavily roasted malts, but also a delicate fruity vein to provide some balance and complexity; the bitterness is quite strong, suspected mostly from the roasted malt; the late final gets a bit ashy. Pleasant.
