3.4from Erzbierschof - cloudy copper-orange beer with a little but long lasting foam; hoppy aroma with notes of tea and red fruits marmalade; slightly thick and full-bodied, low carbonation, some sweetness and a late fair bitterness; some residual sweetness in a long hoppy finish where notes of red fruits and flowers appear; slightly soapy
4.233 cl. bottle @ home – left-over from RBWG 2012 – not sure who brought this, I think Rene/Benzai – thx. a lot to the one who brought this – hazy fox red amber with a creamy head – smell is fruity bitter grapefruit hops, slight earthly/floral/… touch – taste is bitter grapefruit hops, grapefruit peel, kid’s vitamin pills, bitter with a dash of spices & yeast, caramel malts – full bodied, nice
3.0Sampled on New Years Eve 2012. Label claims 11 percent. Clear amber pour with fishegg clearish head. Very old musty hop aroma and lots of caramel malt. Flavor has the pale and caramel malts with old citrusy hops. Feels old and flat on the palate, but not that exciting. Does hide the abv very well, but pretty blah otherwise.
3.8Nice, hoppy, and smooth double IPA. Good malt balance and tangy sourness from the hops.
3.3Bottle 30 cl from erzbierschof.ch. Red amber with small foam, fine crackling. Aromas of hop grapefruit, malt, herb and note of dog rose bush. Taste rather soft. Pale Ale without much flavor. Bitterness is present but less aggressive than expected. Dry mouth, acidulity, floral, a little astringent. Good lenght on citrus, herbs, pine.
2.6Bottle.
Amber with a white head. Is this really a DIPA? A simple question, where were the hops? Sweet with a lot of caramel and malt. Drinkable but its not a DIPA according to me.
2.3Sample from a bottle at PIB. Pours clear orange with a thin cream lacing. Aroma of heaps of caramel, no sign of hops. Flavour of dark roasted caramel malts, some light bitterness. Not good. Doesn’t display enough IIPA characteristics to bother with again.
1.8Sampled from bottle at PIB (bottle reads 11%, not 9% - hopefully this is the right place to put the rating), pours dark orangey amber with a small beige head. Aroma of heaps of caramel, barely anything else, even hops. This is a mess of a beer - how is this an IPA? Absurdly sweet, cloying in every sense, with a load of caramel, no hops, with a nastily sweet finish. Terrible.
3.8Sampled on draft at house of 1000 beers this beer poured a dark orange0-caramel color with a large foamy orange-beige head that lingered and left great lacing. The aroma was sweet table sugar, grapefruit and faint pine. The flavor was sweet and tangy with notes of table sugar, pineapple, grapefruit and lemon. The finish was long, tangy and had lingering pine and fruit cocktail Full bodied. Nice.
4.0Bottle from bierkoning, thank you. Copper color with thin white head. Aroma of, lemon, grapefruit, pine. Taste, grapefruit, honey, pine, lemon. Nice bitter finish. Excellent.
3.4Copperbrown beer with a very weak, blond head. Aroma is quite simple tropical fruits, toffeeish maltyness and some berries; I would except more from double IPA. Taste is strongly bitter, pine forest, some fruits and dry woodyness in the end. Nicely slippery to drink. This beer not convinced me, clearly worse than brewer’s IPA and far away from best of this style. Too simple beer without any personality.
2.5With apologies to Fat Tony, "what have I done to deserve this flat, flavourless Double IPA?" Smells great, like super great and I was excited. But the flavour is just meh, no hops, no nothing. Also it’s kinda oily somehow in the mouth. Overall pretty disappointing. I did buy a second one though, so I’ll re-rate once I’ve tried that.
4.3Bottle 33 cl, Alko Arkadia, Helsinki. Pours cloudy red amber with a nice bubbly tanned head leaving nice lacing. Aroma is sweet malty, piny, caramel, citric, bread and spicy. Fantastic velvety lean mouthfeel, almost like Sahti. Flavor is round malty, hoppy, piny, citric, sweet and fruity. So lean and thick cons., excellent. Very nice lean malty and bitter palate. Finishes peppery pungeant and longlived bitter. Just love this one.
4.1Tasting at ABC Beers, Den Haag. Golden amber clear pour with small off white head. Aroma has grassy hops and caramel which is matched in the flavour along with a nice bitterness
3.5Hazy dark orange color, white head that leaves lacing. Smell just a little bit hoppy and bitter. Taste very nice. Nice hops, bitter and lightly sweet. Soft carbo, too soft in my opinion. Pretty low body as well for 9%ABV.
4.0Nice amber-ish colour. Some fruit in the taste and smell. Nice mouthfeel. Quite okay double IPA.
3.00.33l bottle. Hazy amber color. Aroma has sweetness and not so much hops I was hoping for. Medium body with thickness in texture.
3.7slight alcohol taste. good color, amber-orange. Not much head. Ester on the back. Cereal, breads, nuts, fruit, dark-fruit, really nice mouthfeel. Overall, delicious, and citrusy flavor. Good stuff.
3.00.33 l bottle. Hazy amber color. Sweet aroma of toffee, raisiny caramel and flowery citrus. Initially toffeish and nutty flavor which turns into strong hard bitterness. Strong tart alcohol note. Slightly flowery but otherwise, surprisingly low on hop flavor. Very full body. More like a barley wine.
3.1330 ml bottle. Finland.
Dark amber colour with tiny white head.
Dark bitter hops, sweet malt and some alcohol in aroma.
Flavour is caramel sweet, dark fruity hops, mint and alcohol.
Quite mild bitterness. Oily and slightly flat. Short aftertaste.
3.1Nice aroma. Peach, apricot that is also in the taste. Head was gone quickly. Slightly dangerous because it doesn’t automatically feel like a heavy nine percent. Tart afterfinish, not like a real ipa.
2.5On tap at the Bilbo Baggins Stilwater/12% Imports dinner on Friday November 12, 2010. Served in a wine glass.
Pours a really nice ruby color with an off-white, single-finger head. Some spotty lacing on the way down. The nose is sweet amber malt plus some light booze. It’s also mildly fruity.
The taste is quite a bit of alcohol that gets heavier as the beer warms. Burns my cheeks. There’s some sweet malt there as well with a light cherry flavor. Some light earthy hops in there as well. Mouthfeel brings some booze and a slight bitterness. There’s some cherry cough syrup character in the finish and it’s a bit astringent. Overall, I’m not a fan.

4.0Murky and light filtered brownish ale with small head that doesn’t hold. Doesn’t scream: drink me. Heavy on the hops with grapefruit, selery, grass maybe some dough. A bit overwhelming. Luckily a fairly smooth mouthfeel for the hops present. Still dry, especially in the aftertaste. Taste brings what you expect from a double IPA, nothing new. Like ththe drinkability and nice to see a real double IPA from The Netherlands! (33cl bottle)
3.6Bottle. Pours a hazy orange color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity hoppy grapefruit aroma. Fruity malty hoppy bitter grapefruit flavor. Has a fruity malty hoppy bitter grapefruit finish.
3.6On tap. This had a nice sweet maltiness. Definitely not a hop bomb compared to the better American double IPAs. Ruby-ish color with steady foam head. Enjoyed it but wouldn’t seek it out.
3.4330ml bottle picked up at Alko Arkadia. Cloudy, apricot coloured body. Ring of bubbles, fragile lacework. Smell of sappy hops. Succulent oranges in flavour supported by grapefruits and pine, and offset by honey sweetness. Rather heavy, bittersweet ending, long-lived. Pleasant IPA (hotel room, Helsinki 06.02.2011).
3.3Tap at RNH. Deep amber pour with a thin white head. The nose is kind of odd. Sweet and toasty with a lot of cooked/caramelized wort flavour. A bit of soft chewiness on the palate. Earthy hoppiness but a really sweet brew in the back. Maillard character - it’s a very odd duck. It’s not really bad - but it’s not what I was expecting. Well-hopped, but no IIPA.
3.2Hazy orange colour. Thin bubbly head. Hoppy aroma, some lemon, apricot and fresh grass. Light in resins. Some currant leaves and harsh vegetables. Slightly yeasty. Sweet caramel, medium sweetness. Not particularly malty. Some sourness in the finish. Not bitter enough to be true DIPA. Rather short and harsh finish. Low carbonation, oily texture. Slightly flat.
3.5Bottle. Amber, cloudy, very small and fully diminishing head. Moderate malty and sweetish aroma, some bread and light fruitiness, grassy – light citrus hoppyness. Body is medium to full, malty and sweetish flavor with fruitiness, citrus hoppyness. Finish is average, malty and sweetish and fruity, citrus – grapefruit hoppyness. OK IPA, malty bread in the aroma is bit odd for IPA, could use more hoppyness.
