3.7 Tap. Poured black color with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Medium to heavy toasted sweet malt aroma. Medium to full body with a creamy texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy sweet malt flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate duration. This is a smooth solid beer.
3.7 Draft to taster at Dutch’s. Pours a dark cola brown color with a small to medium beige head. The aroma is spot on creme brulee; vanilla, caramel, and custard. The flavor has light roast, caramel, vanilla, custard, thinner body but the nose and flavor are good.
3.8 (Bottle) Very dark brown with reddish tint and tiny tan head. Very pleasant aroma, if rather unusual for a beer - vanilla, toffee and cream - very creme brûlée. Fantastic mouthfeel - creamy smooth, with some stickiness and gentle carbonation. Like the aroma, the taste is very pleasant, and very unusual for a beer. There’s a lot of toffee / burnt sugar sweetness up front, with plenty of interesting complexity - vanilla, vinous notes, yeast. This steadily develops into some good bitterness in the finish, however that’s much more of a burnt sugar, black treacle bitterness than hops. This extremely long finish retains vanilla and vinous notes. Very unusual beer, very impressive, but maybe a bit too unusual.
3.8 Draft sample at Dutch’s pour opaque dark brown with minimal tan head. Nose caramelized brown sugar, egg custard, fresh cake batter. Taste fairly sweet up front, with good representation of creme brulee. Lighter mouth feel. Minimal bitterness in the finish, but mostly creme brulee.
3.7 On tap at Dutch’s. Dark brown, near-black color. Thin khaki head, leaving decent bits of lace. Nice creme brûlée type vanilla in the nose, and caramel. Not nearly as sweet as the famous Southern Tier example, thankfully. Bigger sweet, and a good moderate bitter balance to the taste, too. More burnt sugar here, less vanilla, I dig it. Medium-plus body, lightly slick. Lighter kind of crisp lighter carbonation. Touch of smoke. Tasty, balanced, unique and interesting stuff.
3.8 From a 330ml bottle on 25/3/2015. Pours a very deep brown with a smallish head. Has a very distinct aroma of vanilla and (you guessed it) creme brulee. The flavour features heaps of milk chocolate, vanilla, and caramel, along with more creme brulee, some toffee and praline balanced by a pronounced quite spicy, slightly roasty bitterness. The texture is creamy and the carbonation soft. It’s full of flavour and character. My only criticism is that it comes across as a touch artificial, which detracts slightly from the overall experience.
4.0 330ml bottle. pours an opaque dark brown almost black colour with thin brown tanned head. aroma is vanilla, coffee, chocolate and sweet toffee. does indeed smell of creme brulee. taste is smooth, vanilla, bitter coffee, chocolate. quite sweet with a dry finish. really nice.
3.7 330mL bottle from International Beer Collector Picture perfect looking stout; jet black opaque body, dense creamy tan, espresso-like head holds atop. Aroma is sweet & delectable - vanilla, milk chocolate, butter caramel, weak instant toffee - all seems just a tad artificial - red vinous undertones & burnt malt roastiness. Body is rich beyond its strength; thick, oily, slightly syrupy with a moderate creamy carbonation. Intense on the body - chocolate & caramel syrup, burnt toffee, bitter black coffee, blackcurrant & berry, burnt nuts and toast. Bitterness is high, lingering on finish, a bit out of whack. Uniquely flavoured and rather tasty, but just a tad artificial tasting.
3.5 Bottle. Dark cola with a thin tan head. Aroma is creme brulee and cream soda. Taste retains the cream soda aspect and adds a light roasty note. Medium sticky mouthfeel. Good but very sweet.
3.3 From bottle. Black with nice, long lasting, beige head. Sweet and rich aroma. A bit like chocolate milkshake. Taste of chocolate, pralines with alcohol, note of vanilla. Perfect carbonation, full body. Good one.
3.6 Dark brown coloured. Has an off-white head. Heavy sweet aroma, sugars, burnt sugars, butter. Even heavyere in the flavor, lots of creme brulee
3.8 Pours dark with a nice mocha coloured head. Smells like creme brulee, very sweet with vanilla, toffee and sugar. Flavour is much more subdued and less sweet, malty bitterness up front followed by smooth toffee, caramel and vanilla flavours. Nicely balanced, interesting and not too sweet.
3.7 this beer went higher than my expectations. Very sweet, some vanilla, notes of Creme Brullee, full body, thick, very enjoyable.
3.8 Bottle. Pours in dark color body with low tan head. Aroma has a typical creme brulee character, caramel, toffee, light hints of vanilla. Taste has high harsh caramel bitterness, some roasty sweetness in the background. Body is full, high carbonation. Interesting as I love creme brulee.
4.0 33cl bottle served in a snifter. Pours almost black with a thin whitish head which clings admirably to the side of the glass. Aroma is powerful vanilla, milk chocolate and bread & butter pudding. Taste is strong sweet in the forefront followed by a nice bitterness which is quite harsh when cold but almost disappears once up to temperature. Taste is just like crème brulee but even better and probably more calorific. Absolutely fantastic and rich just like a dessert in its self.
3.8 Vanille, Zucker, Creme Brulee in der Nase. Wahnsinn. Geschmack kann nicht ganz mithalten. Edler Kaffee und Schokolade, etwas dumpf. Nice.
3.7 330ml bottle. pours an opaque dark brown almost black colour with thin brown tanned head. aroma is vanilla, coffee, chocolate and sweet toffee. does indeed smell of creme brulee. taste is smooth, vanilla, bitter coffee, chocolate. quite sweet with a dry finish. really nice.
3.7 Bottle at home, 24th December 14 pours dark, aroma, molasses, burnt sugar, sweet. Taste is smooth, you get burnt caramel on the finish, good take on the stout. Smooth, and very nice
3.4 frothy average light brown head. fair lacing. mostly diminishing. flat thick black body. aroma: chocolate ice cream, vanilla essence, candy sugar, heavy malt. if: moderate sweet bitter. ff: moderate sweet heavy bitter; long duration. palate: light medium body, medium carbonation, watery texture, metallic light alcoholic finish. Baunilha no paladar. Amargor excessivo balanceia o forte dulçor. "Creme brulée no aroma; no paladar, apenas no começo", de acordo com Luiz F. M. Cavalheiro.70S
3.7 Bottle at home. Black pour, thin tan head. Aroma is full of milk chocolate, caramel and cacao. Flavor is full of caramel and chocolate, very sweet and very much like a good dessert. Really impressive authentic creme brulee aroma, although it is a bit strange to drink.
3.9 October 28, 2014. Bottle at home. Black with a tan head. Aroma is very sweet, caramel, vanilla, milk chocolate. Taste is milk chocolate, vanilla, caramel, medium to full sweetness. Finish is lots of vanilla and caramel. Medium creamy body, soft carbonation.
4.1 Bottled@AIH40 (from biernavigator). Pitch black colour, small brown head. Aroma is vanilla, chocolate, some coffee, mild liquorice as well as some alcohol. Flavour is very similar, and once it gets warmer than fridgecold the palate does get really thick and the flavours really intense. Very pleasant brew, although a bit strong on the ashy side.
3.4 Bottle 330ml (AIH40) Dark brown color, small beige head. Creme brulee aroma, vanilla, caramel, cocoa. Medium-bodied. Toasted flavor. Sweetish vanilla, cocoa. A bit burned maltyness. Interesting.
Finale secco e persistente. Grande birra!!
4.5 On tap at 10 East - Whew...what a beer. Liquid dessert is more like it. I can’t imagine how many calories were in this beauty but it’s a stunning beer. A chocolatey, vanilla, scorched marshmallow aroma with a healthy dose of chocolate icing/cake mix thing going on. The flavor doesn’t detract very far from the aroma, and it center’s it’s focus on the sweet factor. Not sure if it’s cloyingly sweet, but it’s sweet. Lots of lactose sweetness getting noticed. Almost like a chocolate ice cream sandwich that’s been condensed into this beer. Chocolate, vanilla, caramalized sugar with just enough of roasted malt bitterness to notice. Whoa..
