3.6 Bottle, train on route to the Cotteridge Convention. Thansk to Fergus with this old-timer. It pours clear deep red-brown with a small white head. The nose is big smoke, 1 metre distance from a bonfire sort of aroma, rich, juicy and honey-glazed ham. The taste is bitter-sweet, earthy, dough, subdued smoke, meaty, gammon, grainy and toasted brown bread. Medium body and moderate carboantion. Really nice punchy aroma to it. Decent.
3.8 Amber brownish appearance, medium to rich head. Heavily smoked, typical smoked meat aromas. Very light sweetness, medium bitterness, balanced. Very good smoked beer.
3.6 Bottle: Dark brown color, off-white head. Aroma of smoke, malt, bacon, light sweetness. Flavor is also malty, caramelic, light sweet, medium smoked, bacon, barrel notes, roasted malt bitterness. Good Rauchbier.
3.7 Bottle at the St Albans Beer Festival 2012. Poured copper, with a large off white head. Aroma of smoked malt, cured ham and toffee. Nice balance of slightly medicinal smokey notes, caramel and biscuity malt. Finish was dry with peat and with some sweet fruit rind.
3.7 Couleur brune trouble, col beige.
3.8 "nice balanced aroma and flavor of smoked and sweet malts. little hop presence, but none really needed. a little on the steep side, but i’d have again when the mood strikes."
4.0 Botella de 33 cl, adquirida en Slainte. Color marron. Sabor a malta tostada, bacon ahumado, ligeramente a caramelo.
3.9 Couleur brune , forte mousse blanche.
3.5 Fantastic, well balanced beer with lots of smoke, and a perfect fill to it.
3.7 Bottle, 33cl. Brown colour, thin white head. Medium carbonation. Aroma with notes of dark fruit, caramel and smoked meat. Well balanced. Nice rauchbier.
3.3 0,33l bottle. Hazy brown color with beige head and nice lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, caramel and smoke. Taste is medium bitter. Medium to full body and dry finish. I expected more smokiness in both aroma and taste.
2.5 aroma: smoke, honey, sweet, alcoholic, cognac, pine appearance: dark brown colour, nearly no foam taste: smoke, ham, bitter, roast malt, alcoholic, bitter aftertaste
Espectacular
3.8 Cloudy brown color, average sized off white head. Medium to full body, soft carbonation. Lots of lacing. Smokey aroma, ham, some fruitiness. Medium sweet taste with some light bitterness. Strong smokey finish. Very nice.
4.0 Bottle 330ml from a trade with Countbeer, thanks Kamiel! Into a snifter, ABV 7% Dark brown red colour on the body, tan head, almost two fingers tall, good density, good retention. Minimal lacing on the glass. Aroma is full of smoke at first, with red and dark fruits being traceable on the back. Taste of smoked meat, peat, dates, dark fruits. Really nice. Medium thin body, good amount of carbonation. Overall good beer, as smoked a s a good whiskey. Great.
3.7 Bottle from Beautiful Beers, drunk at home. Light reddish-brown, medium carbonation but not a lot of head. Complex aroma of smoke, chocolate, meat, hints of citrus and sarsaparilla. Taste is a simple but satisfying light bitter with a long bittersweet finish. Aftertaste is more heavily bitter. Thin palette. Lovely beer, maybe slightly too heavy on the alcohol for what it is. Shame this is retired. O Emilesse rauchbier, I hardly knew ye!
3.6 Bottle @ DØE Meeting. Pours amber with a small offwhite head. Aroma of malt, caramel, meaty smoke, peat, light fruit. Flavor is malty, caramel, meaty smoke, ham, peat, bitter wood. Medium to full body, soft carbonation, dry finish. 210514
4.1 Deep red in colour. Strong aroma of smoked ham but with sweetness in the smell too. Taste is charcoal, bacon, malts, caramel, with a nice dry bitterness in the finish. Nice full bodied. Overall, very enjoyable.
3.2 Bottle, picked up off the shelf three days ago. Pours a cloudy brown color with a moderate off-white head on there. Nose is definitely smokey, yet has a bit of sweetness (caramel?) underneath; however, the nose is somewhat light, to it’s a tad hard to tell. Taste is slightly bitter and strongly smoke-filled, like there’s a bit of charcoal in there. All in all, not a bad drink, though.
3.3 Draught at Arendsnest, Amsterdam Deep copper with an off-white head. Leather and tar, in the aroma. Rather light body with a slitly harsh bitterness. Leather and tar in the flavour as well.
Geruch leicht rauchig, Karamell, hopfig. Geschmack leicht röstmalzig, Karamell, leicht rauchig.
4.5 Bottle, 0.33l. Hazy amber orange color with small creamy off-white head. Aroma of smoked sausage, ham, leather with some earthy hints. Taste starts with moderate sweet malt supported with strong smoke character, following is umami with some fruity notes, warming mouthfeel and moderate bitter finish. Full body, oily texture and lively carbonation in palate. Liquid smoked sausage :)
3.4 Pours a hazy light brown color with a very nice cream colored head with decent retention. Aroma is part roasted malts and part like a sort of smoked cheese - I like it. The taste starts bittery, quite bittery really and is complemented by some roastiness and coffee feel. Quite nice, I must say.
Aromat: wyraźnie wędzony i właściwie nic ponadto.
3.4 Bottle shared at a tasting at Dancing Camel. Pours red hazy with a medium head, aroma of sausage, wood and some fish, flavor is smoked, fish, sausage, wood, malt acidity, medium bodied
3.0 Bought this as part of my beer education. I can see how you could get hooked on this but it’s not for me. Outrageously smokey, not like a stout, REALLY SMOKEY ! Like smoked sausages, or peat, yeah, peat ! Smells like a good irish whiskey. I guessed it might taste strong so drank it out of the fridge to take the edge off. I’m drinking as I’m reviewing and it’s growing on me. Glag I bought two now. Very interesting indeed.
