Aroma: huge peated notes (mainly hospital-like ones),roastiness
Appearance;pitch black,small brown head,nice lacing.
Taste:sweet, flavour of peat,roasted malt,coco nibs and coffee,milk chocolate finish,bitter peat afterataste.
Palate:full body,nice thick texture, boozy,low carbonation.
Overall:One-dimensional but still tasty.
4.3Black. Aroma and flavour are both rich, with lots of roasted barley, liquorice notes, smoke, whiskey and wood. Full and somewhat pungent taste, with solid sweetness. Dry and medium bitter finish with a bit of alcohol. Full body and a creamy mouthfeel. Overall, a wonderful imperial stout. Complex, due to the huge malt profile and evident barrel aging. Ardbeg complements it very well. It does become a bit cloying toward the end of the bottle, though.
4.3Bottle 330 ml. Aroma: peat, iodine, creosote and caramel whisky. Taste: a bit sweet, roasted malt, cigar ash, smoked whisky.
Who knows ?? 🙂 0,33/7€ aus dem CRAFT BEER STORE HH. BOTTLE.
3.8Bottle at arendsnest. Pitch black, good beige head - long lasting. Monster medicinal sweet peat aroma, with lots of malt and bonfire smoke. Pretty full body, light carbonation. Immense peat hits you on tasting, with moderate sweetness. Medicinal theme continues in a roasted, burnt tar like, boozy long finish. Decent
3.7Bottle shared at Murphy’s Law, The Hague. Pitch black pour with a nice tan head. Notes of peat, smoke, whiskey, dark chocolate, raw cocoa powder. Full body, medium to low carbonation and a smokey bitter-sweet finish.
3.8330ml bottle. BB 2020. Pitch black colour. Beige mexium head. Smoke, peat, raisins, sourness of the berries, hints of bread in the aroma. Smoke, peat at first. Lots of whiskey. Alcocholy notes. Hints of chocolate, raisins. Hints of smoke, oakiness and very light notes of cocoa. Whiskey and alcochol in the aftertaste. Makes warm inside. Rather heavy bodied. Rather heavy bodied, bitter, tart peated and alcocholy palate. Ardberg barrel tends to bring out lot of smoke and peat. Alcochol here makes it too harsh. Otherwise quite interesting brew.
330ml bottle. BB 2020. Has been in the cellar more than two years. Pours black colour. Medium beige brownish head. Peat, whiskey, smoke in the aroma. Peat, smoke, cocoa, whiskey in the taste. Cocoa, whiskey and peat in the aftertaste. Has gone mellower. Quite good balance.
4.4Nez: Tourbé, café, fruits secs
Bouche: Café, chocolat noir, noisette, whisky tourbé, vanille, fin de bouche sur le whisky et la noisette
Un petit "wow effect" !
C’est excellent !
3.7Draft 0.15l at Proeflokaal Arendsnest Amsterdam, The Netherlands. 03.06.2016. Taste with cika Boban. Pour it dark color with small black head. Aroma of coffee, some red fruits. Taste starts with maybe too much smoked woody feel for me, continues with coffee, at the end good balance, long finish with sourish after taste. Good
4.0Arômes de chocolat, robe noire, mousse beige stable, faible carbonation. En bouche, cacao, amertume et grains torréfiés. Corps onctueux qui soutien le tout.
3.7330ml bottle BB Dec 2020. Impenetrable black with nice foamy persistent mocha head. Oak and peat smoke immediately apparent in the aroma, along with vanilla, roasted meat, leather, dark chocolate. Very smoky and oaky in flavour too, with big molasses, dark chocolate, espresso, vanilla, dry oak tannins. Quite dry and roasty in the finish. Medium to full bodied and lightly acidic. Really good but would’ve benefited from further aging to round it.
2.5Smokey burnt wood aroma. Dark brown colour great head and lacing. Smokey malt flavour. Smooth lingering palate.
3.7Tap. Black, rocky head, tan foam, medium bitterness, light sweetness, medium body, oily feel, soft carbonation, & long finish.
4.4On tap at Arendsnest in Amsterdam. Pours a murky dark brown, almost black with a strong beige head. Aroma is totally like Isle Whiskey with peat notes. Taste is very complex: dark fruits, burnt malt, peat, smokey. Burnt malt, peat aftertaste. Amazing!
4.1Soft and creamy in mouthfeel, a lots of smoke in the taste. Good blending with the very nice imp stout
4.1330ml bottle (thanks FatPhil). Pitch black color. Huge size, brown head, stays. Peat, smoky, woody, oak, whiskey, sweetish in aroma. Peat, bit earthy, oak, smoky, woody, sweet in taste. Smoked peat is everywhere in aftertaste. Long lasting pleasure in mouth. Soft carbonation. Tannin-like "bitterness". Drying mouthfeel, but then again awakes saliva glands. Fantastic brew! More!
3.7330ml bottle (Uba ja Humal, Tallinn)
Black, tight persistent tan head. Really deep dry peaty burntness in the aroma, Tarry, smells like there was a fire here a week ago. Super rich full palate, hugs the tongue, pleasant carbonation stops it being heavy. Taste rich and burnt, a proper seriously stout stout. But a massive burnt tarry peatiness too, Sweetish, but not sugary or sticky. Lots of heavy in this, but amazingly it’s not that heavy. Don’t get 11% from this - in fact it’s remarkably mellow. Finish a pleasant burntness, no astringency, and some peatiness. Such a contrast against the Bruichladdich one, which was a booze bomb monstrosity. Still beer with stuff added, but good beer, and good stuff.
4.2Bottle from Uba ja Humal. BB 12.2020. Pours somewhat reddish dark brown with a huge tan head. Looks stunning! The aroma is dominated by the peated malts, almost difficult to get any beer from it, but later on the sweet chocolaty and roasty base starts to come through. Tastes sweet, with the peat and roast giving it a somewhat black bread sourish character too. The finish is rather bitter. Silky smooth mouthfeel, subdued carbonation... So nice and soft in the mouth.... Good drinkablitiy, dangerously so - the alcohol only comes across as enjoyable heat in the throat. Superb stuff.
4.4Bottled in Frape, Thanks Peter! Pitch black color, average coffee brown head. Peated nose. Aroma is peated malts, smokey and roasted malts. Flavour is peat and smokey whiskey notes with low stout sweetness. Very balanced, excellent beer!
4.6Shit weather, job applications. Time to get one of the proper beers out of the ’cellar’. 330ml bottle at home as ’Emelisse White Label Imperial Russian Stout (Ardbeg BA)’, 2010 vintage bottled at 11%. Totally opaque black, bubbly brown head. Aroma is dark chocolate, smoke, ash, fruity, nutty, Neapolitan icecream. Layered and lovely. Can smell it from across the room. Body is medium, oily, smooth, rounded. Taste is peaty, smoke, dark chocolate, coffee, salty finish. Smokey linger. Rounded and lovely. So drinkable for the ABV. Outstanding. Pretty close to my perfect beer.
3.7Black beer, small brown head. Nose is boozy, malty, peaty, smoke, mild acetone. Flavor is malts, roast, smoke, peat, some salty notes, chocolate. Finishes with peat, roast, coffee, booze, dark chocolate. Lighter palate, must be the barrel ageing. Hides the booze pretty well.
4.1Bottle (from UJH). Pours black with brown head. The head stays for a long time. Aroma is peat, roast, sweetness. Flavor is sweet and bitter, peat, roast, dark chocolate. Finish is peat and roast bitter with chocolate thrown in. Alcohol is well covered. Overall: great brew.
4.0Bottle @ deTolly, Tartu. Pours dark brown with nice brown head. Aroma is roasted, coffee, dark chocolate, dark berries, slight smoke. Taste is medium bitter, coffee, dark chocolate, burnt oak, slight smoke,Medium to full body. Bitter finish. I liked this beer.
4.1Thick, almost black brown. Smoke, peat, mocca, booze, earth, wood, complex and explosive. Backlog from 2014/10/18.
4.0Aroma:
Medium/heavy aroma of malts, caramel, dark fruit, chocolate, roasted malts, coffee and peat.
Appearance:
Opaque black beer with a slight/medium dark brown head.
Taste/Palate:
Starts medium/heavy sweet with malts, caramel, dark fruit and chocolate; ends slightly bitter and dry with roasted malts, coffee and peat.
Overall:
This beer is intense, complex and balanced. The aroma has too much peat for me, but the beer only tastes more complex thanks to it. It always make sure to get that great coffee flavour in the beer.
3.030-OCT-2015, bottle @Ulkløbben meeting, @Sonni.
Black with a lasting, creamy Brown head.
Peated, roasted. Too peated for me. The stout is hidden by the peat. Nice try but for me over done.
3.7330ml bottle, bought about 18 months ago. pours jet black with no bubbles. aroma is charcoal, ash, burnt toast, licorice, oak, dusty books and a little whisky/alcohol. taste isn’t complex but very nice. smooth if a little thin. charcoal and burnt toast with a very oaky/smoky whisky after taste.
2.8Couple of years Old bottle. Completly flat. Don't know if it's age or just this bottle.
First whiff from the glass was like smelling a glass of Arbeg, fantastic. Was extremely promising. This faded fast:(
Whisky notes are still there but have faded on the palate. The wood character from the barrel is more prominent than the whiskey. There are still some dark notes like coffe and maybe some prunes.
Mouthfeel is a bit weird. Almost earthy, some tannins.
First 20 seconds the points would be somewhere around 4.2.
Think this have not aged with dignity
