4.0 Bottle. Very dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is hard roasted malts, chocolate, whisky, light coffee. Big sweetness, roast, woody, smoky, whisky. Well done.
4.0 Bottle at home. Pours a very dark brown a coffee coloured head. Aroma has some light soy meatiness, slightly cakey too with a hint of vanilla.Full body, light carbonation. Coffee, treacle, chocolate, dark fruit, prunes, booze, a light mustiness - the leathery peaty whisky comes through quite strongly towards the end before going into a dusty bitter espresso finish. A touch harsh maybe, but it’s really tasty.
3.8 A very interesting beer. With a strong aftertaste. Dark and heavy. An aroma of coffee and chocolate. The Whisky finish is Balanced. A good beer to heavy food.
3.9 Sehr dunkelbraunes, fast schwarzes Bier mit geringer bräunlichen Schaumkrone. Geruch sehr röstmalzig, Kaffee, Schokolade, holzig. Geschmack intensiv röstmalzig, holzig, Kaffe, Schokolade, leicht alkoholisch.
4.0 Bottle sample at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks Tom L. Pours black with a beige head, aroma of chocolate, coffee, wood, lots of peat, flavor of peat, wood, smoke, coffee, whiskey, malt acidity, full bodied, great
4.2 Quite black. Bubbly head. Aroma us rich, intense, full of chocolate, treacle, biltong, light molasses, and muscovado. No particular Bowmore aroma. Taste is full of peaty smoke, molasses, again biltong and dark sugars. Warm with a slight salty accent that feels Islay but not especially Bowmore. Finish is sweetish, a shot of espresso and the umami of a bloody ribeye. Fun stuff.
4.3 Bottle at home, 15th March 14. Pours black, with a light tan, small head, eaked out from high pour. Aroma of liquorice root, some slight peat and whiskey, taste is sublime, liquorice, perfect blend with the barrel, slight oak, a little alcohol, palate is thick and luxurious. This is superior to the Bowmore BA from De Molen, due to balance. A pleasure.
4.0 Bottle (330 ml). Pitch black and thick with a thick medium mostly lasting brown head and good lacing. Aroma is mostly of peat (but not overpowering) along with roasted malt, smoke, caramel, light vanilla and hints of fruits. Taste is only slightly sweet and dominated by peat. There’s also roasted malt, caramel, smoke and light fruity notes. Medium body. Medium carbonation. Peated finish. Very good BA RIS. I was afraid that it would be too peated, but it’s not bad at all actually. Impressive balance considering the barrel treatment. Not too heavy for an 11% abv beer. Alcohol is well hidden. Quite complex and tasty too. I enjoyed it a lot!
4.1 Black with well retained, dark, creamy head. Aroma of bitter roast malts and also sweeter whiskey-esque malts. Flavours of dried fruits, bittersweet roasted malts and light smoke. Very thick texture with low/moderate carbonation. Very good stout-versus-whiskey balance.
4.3 Bottle. Pours dark black, nice head with little bubbles, stays during drinking. In aroma mainly peat, whiskey notes, some chocolate, coffee, roasted malt and licorice. Full bodied, oily, medium/low carbonation. In taste same notes as in aroma, nicely balanced bitterness, alcohol slightly noticible with nice warming effect. Great drink.
4.5 Bottle 33cl. Black witt mocca creamy head. Looks very nice. Nose: Peat, vanilla, dark chocolate and hints of concentrated espresso. This is promising... And what a taste.... Creamy, concentrated, and extremely rich. English liquorice is as well present. Waht a great beer this is.
4.0 33cl. Bottle. Pours black with tan bubbly head. Aroma alcohol, vanilla, coffee, chocolate, whisky, roasted malts, licorice. Taste chocolate sweet, burned smoked bitter, smoke in the finish. Mouthfeel thick, oily, creamy. Amazing brew.
4.0 Bottle 330 ml at home, into a snifter. ABV 11% Totally black in colour, with a big brown head on top, thick and with very good retention. It insists and leaves a quite thick film on the beer’s surface after most of it has collapsed. rings of lacing formed around the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, whiskey, smoke, some chocolate, Taste is good, roasted malts and coffee, along with its bitterness, alcohol well hidden, a touch of whiskey and its burn on the finish. Great mouthfeel, very thick body, the carbonation on very good levels. Sticky on the palate. Overall very good, my expectations for some reason were higher and although it didn’t meet them, I can’t say I am that disappointed, is a great beer.
4.2 Black color with small, brown head. Aroma: roasted malts, whisky, coffee, dark chocolate, chocolate and coffee liqueur - nice. Exellent complex and smooth taste with notes of coffee, whisky, dark chocolate, wood, vanilla, alcohol. Warming long finish. Nicely balanced between bitter and sweet. Good RIS.
4.2 Ink black colour with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, dark chocolate, coffee, peaty notes, wood, whiskey, a little smoke. Flavour is roasty, whiskey, with a long bitter aftertaste. Another stellar BA brew from Emelisse.
4.1 33cl bottle, bb 09/15. Black colored, brown thin head, nearly flat. Strong peaty aroma, tar, roasted malt and some vanilla chocolate. Flavor has peat, vanilla, licorice, roasted malt. Mouthdrying finish. Lingering finish with peat and licorice. Slight alcohol warmth. Love the peat here, the barrel has realeased its magic into this beer. Great.
3.9 bottle at home. poured a black colour with a thick long lasting mocha head. roasted malts, caramel, burned sugar, milk chocolate, oak, small peat hint, strong alcohol feeling, had better imp stouts from emelisse
Venature wiskeyanti. Direi una imperial russian smoked stout...
3.9 330ml bottle. Pours jet black with a medium head. Aroma is smoky, peaty and salty. Taste has smoky roast to start with peaty liquorice finish.
3.9 Bottle, 01/01/2014. Pours black, frothy dark tan head fades to a splotchy haze on the surface, thin ring of lacing. Aroma of salt, smoked peat, intense dark roast and overripe dark fruit underneath, charred barrel. Taste is creamy chocolate, sweet dark fruit and peat, charred bitterness with vanilla, smoke and whiskey in the finish. Heavy body, smooth. Quite nice.
4.1 Bottle. Black with medium dark brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, chocolate, coffee and whisky. Flavour is roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, liquorice, medium sweet, whisky and quite bitter.
3.9 Bottle sample at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks Tom L. Black with a tan head. Aroma of whiskey, roastiness, a bit of vanilla, wood, chocolate, cookie notes, peaty notes and some smokiness. Sweet flavor, smoky, somewhat peaty, with chocolate, whiskey, wood, roastiness, and a finish with some coffee and a bit of alcohol notes. Rather full-bodied, kinda silky.
3.6 Thick black full oily beer with an incredible brown head with lacing. Roasted coffee flavours with a little smoke. Sweet beer. Warming alcohol, nice winter beer.
4.6 Black, brown head. Superbly balanced imperial stout. Full bodied, smooth, with soft roasted malts mild coffee and the right amount of bowmore.
4.1 Shared this bottle. Pitch black oily and very smokey. Full body and the smokiness from the barrel is incredibly intense. But still a good beer.
4.3 Black body, small brown head. Excellent alcoholic malty aroma with caramel, dark chocolate, licorice, whiskey, hints of strawbberies. Incredible, smooth, warming palate. Excellent, balanced roasted malty flavour with dark chocolate, whiskey, vanilla, honey, a great bitter finish.
4.0 A dark brown beer, with a good light brown head. In the nose there is peat, roasted malts, coffee, sweetness of the alcohol and coffee. It is full bodied beer, with a nice carbonation. In the taste there is peat, oak, tanine, coffee and alcohol. The aftertaste is peated, dry and light sweet of the alcohol. A nice BA version of the IRS.
3.7 Bottle @ home, from Mitra Beukenweg. Pours, thick dark brown, near black. Big bubbled chocolate brown head, which quickly fades. Nose is charcoal, liquorice, marshmallow. Full taste, thick mouthfeel. Quite bitter and smokey, with sweet undertone. Boozy. Nice.
4.6 Deep oily black color, with beige foam. Aromas of wood, whiskey, smokiness. Roasted malts, a hint of vanilla, smoked malts and whiskey in taste. Strong long alcoholic aftertaste. Very nice beer, but for sure a one to share,
