3.4 Bottled. Pours hazy brown with an average off-white head. Aroma of caramel, dark fruit, yeast and a hint of smoke. Sweet flavor that ends up more dry with a little bitterness.. Medium bodied, oily texture and soft carbonation. A nice Quad.
3.6 330mL bottle from International Beer Collector 2014 vintage. BB 12 2016 Pours a near-opaque bronze body, with a small ring of tan head. Aroma is rich - dark sugars, dried fruits, Candi sugar earthiness, roast nuts, port-like undertones. Thick stuff, chewy, creamy, subdued carbonation, very rich. Big dark sugar sweetness, porty dried fruits,, savoury spices, dates and prunes, nuts and caramels. Moderate bitterness, smooth luscious finish. Rather rich, delicious.
3.6 bottle, 2014 vintage (from beergium.com). Pours red copper with beige head. The head doesn’t stay. Aroma is very sweet, caramel, fruits, malt. Flavor is sweet, malt, caramel, candi sugar, some spices and fruits. Finish is mellow burnt sugar bitterness with hint of alcohol. Overall: very basic quad, but I kind of like it.
3.5 2014 vintage. Deep hazy red pour into my tulip glass with small yellow-beige head. Sweet candi sugar aromas, with caramel, marshmallow, booze, spicy phenols, very lightly grassy. The taste definitely has a strong candi sugar hit straight away, with almost a rye spiciness, then the grassy bitterness comes in and then a burnt caramel and marshmallow flavour and light smokiness. Warming alcohol. The grassy bitterness lingers. Full bodied and slick. Quite enjoyable but I would?ve liked just a little less grassiness.
2.9 bottle sample, poured a hazy darker brown colour with a tanned head. nose of sweet caramel, roasted nuts, almond, candy sugar, and sweet ripe dark fruits, wet raisins, and spiced, pretty weird emelisse beer. and not balanced at all
3.4 Bottle. Pours a hazy dark brown with a short off-white head. Aroma of caramel, raisins and dark fruit. Flavor was quite sweet with caramel, brown sugar, toffee, raisins, dark fruit and had some subtle spices.
W odczuciu pelne, oleiste, wysoko wysycone. W smaku sporo slodyczy, karmelu, orzechow wloskich, przypraw, troche chleba, jest tez sporo alkoholu, ktory balansuje slodycz pianek. Goryczka niska, ziemista i mietowa.
3.2 Bottle. Pours a clear light brown producing a small head. Malty sweet aroma with hints of nuts, caramel and a whiff of alcohol. Taste is fairly sweet as well. Hints of alcohol and vinous, dried fruit notes. Medium to full bodied with soft to avg co2.
3.8 Donkerbruin bier, cremekleurige schuimkraag. Geur van mout en caramel. Smaken van mout, caramel, koffie, kruidig. Ondanks de naam winterbier is dit een verrassend fris bier, die door z’n hoge alcoholpercentage je lekker warm maakt. Wederom een goede Emelisse
3.0 Bottle poured into a Trappist glass. It is a dark murky brown having no head and with an aroma was ripe stone fruit and molasses. The taste is sweet and oily while the finish is a dry bitterness. Overall I was expecting a little more.
3.5 Opaque dark brown, light brown lacing foam head. Bittersweet aroma, definately some candy tones present. Light bittersweet taste, again some candy there. NIce warm feeling this beer. (Velp 201503)
2.8 2014 version. Aroma of dark malt, caramel, candy sugar, raisins, some hoppy notes. Flavour is sweet with a moderate bitter finish. A bit too much of candy sugar sweetness, but the bitterness does seem to balance things out... somewhat.
3.5 Taste would lead you to believe hat this had a higher ABV. Deep and dark, pit fruits and figs, oily and slippery. Robust enough to let stand and sip over time.
3.4 Quite a snap of oakiness at the finish of this one. Pours cloudy maroon without much head or lacing. Some prune or raisin. Bitter wooden finish. Tap at pizza paradiso Dupont.
3.3 Tap @ Viisi penniä, Helsinki. Pours a dark auburn brown with a good, yellowish-brown head. Aroma is sweet with caramel, sweet malts, syrup, dark fruits, earthy, spicy, some clove. Taste is sweet with caramel, syrup, dark fruits and marzipan. Somewhat spicy. Full with good carbonation. Too sweet.
3.6 Bottle picked up at SuperMarket Liquors Pours cloudy dark brown with a small beige head, light lacing. Aroma of dark fruit, caramel, brown sugar, toasted malts and mild smoky. Flavors of toffee, sweet malts, dark fruit, brown sugar, dry finish Nice, I had to keep changing my rating as it warmed up. Let ’er warm up and enjoy.
2.6 Bottle, 2014 version, 9.2%. Pours red brown with a thin off white head. Aroma: candy, raisins. Taste: cotton candy, marshmellows, nuts, raisins, caramel, spices. Very sweet, little bitterness, slick texture, medium thin body, average to lively carbobation, pretty long finish, leaving the taste of sweets. Balance is way off on this one.
3.0 Version 2014 with 9.2% ALC. Poors a murky Brown beer with weak foam that instantly disappears. Aroma of sweet malt and ripe fruit. Taste of sugar, candy and a bit boozy. Flat beer that is missing something here.
3.2 (Emelisse Winterbier) Bottle 330 ml t home, vintage 2014 with the ABV being 9.2%, served into small trappist glass. Faded brown colour on the body, clear, with a small tan head, disappearing quickly. Aroma has caramel, toffee, toasted malts. Taste of malts, caramel, toffee, light dark fruits, alcohol is notable. Medium body with carbonation on the high side. Good sipper but taste-wise nothing special, maybe a bit too boozy too.
3.9 Drank with Tijs, Rik and Thierry at home 21-12-2014. A nice beer. Strong taste. Like spijs, or something, also alcohol. Similar to a bok beer, but more expressive taste. Good one.
3.6 2014 - 9.2% - medium to small mokka coloured like head, dark chestnut coloured body, alcohol raisins vanilla malts sweet herbs vanilla smell, medium carbonation and bitter caramell some alcohol herbs vanilla smooth taste some oily texture liquorise in the end
3.6 Light brown colour with no head. Strong aroma of candy malts and yeast. Has a very fragrant and perfumed taste. Floral fruity sweet and yeasty.
3.4 Chocolade bruine kleur met een matige kraag. Ruikt zoetig, kruiden, snoep. Smaakt zoetig, kruiden, speculaas. Zoetige afdronk.
3.4 Brown colored beer with a small white cup, low carbonation. Smells spicy. Taste is also spicy, sweet candy, caramel and raisin. Not a bad beer but there are better Emelisse beers.
3.4 2014 bottle. Brown color with a thinnish head. Boozy nose. Creamy, full texture; mild carbonation. Notes of wholesome bread, grains, toffee and nuts. Sweet marshmallow flavor gave it some depth without being too sticky-sweet. Warming alcohol. Pleasant winter warmer.
2.9 33cl bottle Winterbier 2014 -9,2% ABV Appearance: Mahoney coloured body with a smal ring and a few spot of lacing. Aroma:Sweet candy sugar, banana and spices. Taste: Moderate sweet start o candy sugar, more spice bitter inish with some alcohol. medium body, soft carbonation. A bit disapointing for the Emelisse.
3.0 330 ml. bottle. Cap with a thin layer of yeast build up. Pours a thin, poorly retained, light beige head, over a hazy, particle laden light brown (SRM 20) body.....nose is dried fruits including plum, fig, raisin, light brown sugar, hints of treacle, hints of wintergreen, minimal hops, balance to the malts.....taste is sweet with brown sugar, molasses hints, treacle, plum, raisin, finishing with a mild spice/hop bitterness......mouth feel, light of medium body, alcohol warmth present, carbonation low. This is obviously an older bottle which has been stored on its side in the past. The beer contained therein is a lighter take on an Abt/Quad, with relatively low complexity in both aroma and flavor for the style. It is not a bad beer, in spite of the appearance, it is just a bit too average. BJCP 7/2/13/4/6
