Big Bad Baptista is inspired by traditional Mexican coffee, Café de Olla, which is served with cinnamon and piloncillo, an unrefined sugar. The Cinnamon adds another layer of complexity and accentuates the earthy character of Mexican Coffee, but more importantly, it captures the essence of a place and its culture. As beverage geeks we wanted to pay homage to that rich tradition and offer our unique take.
Big Bad Baptista is a combination of Vanilla, Cinnamon, Mexican coffee roasted by Blue Copper, and Solstice Chocolate cacao nibs. It’s luxurious to say the least, with a pleasant warming sensation generated by the cinnamon and alcohol. Enjoying the interplay of chocolate, malt, oak, and spice is the perfect way to spend a cool evening, with friends around a fire.

4.0I haven’t had an Epic beer in awhile...
Epic Big Bad Baptist’s 10.8%
This spiced Mexican coffee stout has an increasingly soft body and exceptional balance featuring chocolate buns with molasses/brown sugar, soft spiciness and velvety coffee notes. It hides the ABV incredibly well and is super drinkable.
4.5Bottle from Telegraph brewery in Santa Barbara, though I also see it at Total wine in Cupertino. 10.8% 2018 release whiskey barrel. Pours thick black with no foam, medium to low carbonation. Rich rich coconut barrel aroma. Some cocoa nibs chocolate. Dry finish. Thick body. Lightly sweet. Quite delicious. Abv well hidden. Excellent.
Darált fűszerpaprika pikáns vonalaival meghintett jegyei a felsorolt összetevők mindegyikének lenyomatát magukon viselik, különösen lecsengése erősíti fel a kakaós, tonkababos elemek játékát. Egyedül a whiskys benyomások intenzitásának mértéke hagy némi kivetnivalót a számomra, ebből a szempontból ugyanis meglehetősen visszafogottnak tűnik. Mindemellett érthetőek a pontszámok, én is elismerően bólogattam a kortyolása közben.
4.2Great. With a strong chocolate nose. Big flavors of roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon and coffee. Full and heavy.
4.4On tap at Epic in Denver. Pours jet black with a dirty tan head. Aroma is fudge, coffee, chocolate, cinammon. Taste is a big rich chocolate fudge cuddle, cinammon kicks in. Bit of coconut and booze on the finish but drinks nowhere near the 11.7%. Lovely stuff

4.4Pours a pitch-black coloration with a large, fluffy, mocha-colored head. Smells wonderfully of roasted, caramel malt, freshly roasted black coffee, dark bitter chocolate and lighter notes of vanilla, cinnamon, bourbon and oak. Taste is an exceptional balance of roasted, caramel malt and quite expressive roasted coffee and dark chocolate notes, as well as slightly lighter notes of vanilla, cinnamon and quite a mellow bourbon presence, with just a hint of licorice, tobacco and oak. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and bourbon lingering in the aftertaste. Full, creamy mouthfeel with a very rich body and light/medium carbonation.
I have to say that I had high expectations of this after Big Bad Baptist and was somewhat afraid of being disappointed by this more adjunct-heavy variant. However, I could not have been more wrong, This just has such an incredible balance to it, with the coffee and chocolate being quite expressive and the vanilla and cinnamon supporting that nicely without feeling too overpowering at all, as well as a great and quite mellow bourbon presence that's rich and sweet but without a hint of sharp booziness to it and lighter notes of licorice, tobacco and oak adding to the overall complexity. There's also a certain roasted bitterness to this that does a great job of balancing out the sweeter notes. I enjoyed this a lot more than Barrel-Aged Abraxxas, there I said it. I'll take a perfect, mellow balance instead of overdone "bold" flavors any day of the week.
4.0On tap at Pinocchio’s. Dark pour, smallish head. Liquid chocolate, hints of red wine. Some roasted coffee and notable cinnamon sweetness. This had tons of character and deliciousness to boot. P good.

Taste: very complex and delicious...dark chocolate, vanilla, dark roasted espresso beans, cinnamon, nutmeg, chili peppers, muscovado sugar, molasses, whiskey, oak, roasted chestnuts, umami, soy sauce, caramel, toffee, sultana, plums, dates, raisins, cacao powder, gingerbread, speculaas, cacao butter, nougat, café au lait, chocolate milk, licorice. 4.1Flaska från Beer Republic. Vintage 2018.
4.2Incredible stout, layers upon layers of goodness, with a massive dark chocolate front tempered by anise, molasses, caramel, coffee, and roast, leading to a decadent cinnamon-vanilla finish drenched in whiskey. Deep, complex, and indulgent without being cloy or boozy. Brilliant.

Aroma is really neat with peanuts, chocolate and chili. Also alcohol. Flavour has chocolate, nougat, spices, chili. Also cardamom. Excellent.
3.2Big beer, no shocker there, but not my favorite. Mexican stouts for me are hard to get right. Too easy to go hard on the cinnamon and all the other spices. I mean, it was FINE. Put down your pitchforks. Bottle shared courtesy of CMNS at Beerble Study
