Epic / DC Brau Fermentation Without Representation
Brewed on: October 10, 2011. Packaged on October 25, 2011. Our first ever collaborative beer has all the familiar flavors of the season, but done with Epic style. To a base of strong, roasty, and chocolaty porter, we add 200 pounds of real pumpkin per batch, five spice and whole Madagascar vanilla beans. As you pour this deeply ruby brown beer, you’re greeted by the aroma of fresh cut squash, followed by rich chocolate. The flavor starts sweet with marshmallow, vanilla, and some pumpkin pie, then yields to a coffee roast and dark chocolate dryness. This beer is a great introduction for curious drinkers and a special holiday treat for fans of the style.

3.5Bottle shared with Erzengel! A dark orange brown beer with a small off-white head. Aroma of herbs, cinnamon, orange fruits. Taste of herbs, cinnamon, dark malt, toffee, nuts.
3.5Keg at the Denver taproom. Pours clear red-brown with a dense, creamy tan head. The nose has some burnt pumpkin pie, hints of roast, dried berries. Medium sweet flavour with mellow cocoa, some meaty pumpkin, lightly tangy dark berries, molasses. Medium to full bodiednwith fine, massaging carbonation. Sweet finish with low warmth, some burnt toast, more dried berries, toasted vanilla pods, earth. Nice beer.
2.822oz bottle. Poured a dark brown with an off white head. I like my pumpkin beers less spice and more pumpkin - this was not that. Some chocolate and vanilla, but the spices...
3.9Bottle. Very dark brown, amber highlights, average beige head. Spicy chocolate, vanilla cookie, hints of pumpkin. Very well balanced with a nice proportion of flavours, not too much of any one thing. Surprising!
3.4Bottle. Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of pumpkin, chocolate, nutmeg and vanilla, Flavor of roasted malts, chocolate, vanilla, pumpkin and light coffee.
3.9Bottle: Poured a brown with bubble tan. Aroma is malty and pumpkin spice. Taste is a pumpkin and spice with strong malts.
3.5Tap at Clubhouse BFD. Pours black, tan head. Aroma is chocolate malt and some pumpkin spice. Flavor is mostly chocolate, with a slightly pumpkin-y presence. Flavor is chocolate, roasted malt, some cinnamon, mild pumpkin spice, but not much in the pumpkin department. Coffee finish is nice.
3.6650ml bottle pours a deep amber brown color with a finger and a half of light beige head that leaves some spotted lacing on the glass. Aroma is pumpkin, chocolate, roasted grains and a range of pumpkin pie spices. Taste is a chocolate malty and pumpkin sweetness with a light roasted grain bitterness and the pumpkin pie spices. Medium bodied with good carbonation. Overall, a very tasty pumpkin ale, could be one of the best I have ever tried. Recommended.
3.7Bottle. One of the best pumpkin brews I have ever tried. Really well done. Perfect balance of roasting and spices.
3.4Tap at Hair of the Dog, Phromh Phong. Poured a murky light brown with a thin broken white head. The aroma is pumpkin, chocolate, yeast. The flavour is light grainy sour witn a dry earthy coffee malt mineral light fruit palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Great on the nose then it all fell apart.
4.0September 15th, 2014 - Apparently this brew was so good that I couldn’t even be bothered to take a photograph of it between greedy bouts of frenzied quaffing. But my notes tell part of the story, describing a heavily malted nose, layered with chocolate and chocolate mousse, and dotted with raspberries covered in chocolate. The aroma is smooth, milky and enticing. Sugary sweet, the flavor opens up, feigns modesty at first, and then kicks in some pumpkin flavors in the mid-taste. The aftertaste, though, is the real kernel of brilliance, with some black pepper and sweet potato, and ending with a dry kick, including canned pumpkin and a small sachet of herbs.
3.7Shared bomber poured to snifters showing a black/brown hue, with light ruby highlighting at the stem, off white/ light tan head foam, and dots & dashes of lacing. The nose was roasted, coffee & cocoa, spice & vanilla, some malt sweetness, pumpkin patch earthiness, a good deal of vegetable & greenery. Medium bodied, with soft carbonation, the taste added a roasted & earthy bitterness, a bit of booze, and finished dry. Decent seasonal brew.
3.6Epic imperial pumpkin porter 8.3% abv ... Deep brown/black pour with a nice ruby hue, off white head and sticky striped lacing .... aroma of vanilla, pumpkin spices, roasted malts, chocolate, coffee and some earthy pumpkin .... taste is of vanilla, spices, roasted malts, chocolate, coffee and earthy pumpkin .... aroma is better than the taste which is kind of subtle .... mouthfeel is a little slick ... body is thin .... sessionable and decent.. abv is hidden well
3.5One of the better pumpkin beers I’ve had it still gross for me. Nice malt and dessert esque profile. A bit of spice up front with a nice little vanilla and allspice back bone. Not sweet at all but rather quite rich with a delicate hop and light alcohol presence. Malt isn’t overly roasted not robust. Well balanced and enjoyable.
4.0An herbal spiced aroma. Immediate flavor is sweet but creamy with a strange mixture of spices. This beer is all over the place. Not sure what to honk of this. Need to have again.
3.7Pours a dark brown. Aroma and taste are pumpkin, spices, and dark chocolate malts.
2.8Bomber. Red brown with a decent tan head. Watermelon bubblicious, light smokiness, alcohol and cardamom aromas. Fruity candy flavor with a slight ashy aftertaste. Lighter body with a fizzy feel. It wasn’t bad, just unexpected.
3.7Bottle sample at a tasting at Beer and Beyond, Tel Aviv. Release #24. Deep brownish with beige head. Spicy aroma with some roasted malt, sweetish fruits, pumpkin and coffee. Sweet flavor, light bitterness, spicy with notes of clove and vanilla, some roastiness, a bit salty, some coffee and chocolate, alcoholic. Medium to full-bodied. Rich and pleasant.
3.4Dark and roasty and vegetal and spicy. Pretty good balance and not overly sweet.
3.2Deep red colour. Spotty lacing white head. Chocolate and squash aroma. Very eathy flavor. Heavy vegetable influence in the taste and mouthfeel.
3.1Draft. Dark brown pour. Pears and gummi bears and some nutmeg. Weird shit here.
3.1Pours a dark brown with a tan fizzy head, looks like coca cola. Aroma is weak but has a little bit of pumpkin and vanilla. Flavors of pumpkin and vanilla with lightly hoppy finish. Maybe a mix of other spices but they’re difficult to place.
3.8From a bomber. Pours black-ruby red and makes a nice tan head with good lacing. Aroma is of malt, cinnamon, chocolate and nutmeg. Taste is of malted barley, cocoa, and pumpkin. As others have said, it is more of a real pumpkin than a sweet pumpkin pie taste, which I prefer. Very good ale!
3.8At SG 75. Poured in a snifter. Dark dry chocolate notes with a hint of pumpkin. Slight caramel sugar finish. APV= 8%.

3.7At the brewery during GABF week, 2015. Imperial pumpkin porter. Dark brown, mild roasted malt aroma. Real pumpkin flavor rather than the frequent pumpkin pie character. Earthy, but some lightly sweet malt. nice lacing head on top. Good.
