Epic Hop Syndrome Lager

Epic Hop Syndrome Lager

This wonderful hoppy lager is a new addition to our ever-expanding Exponential (Seasonal) Series. The Crystal hops give it a clean spice while the Calypso hops give it a pleasant, almost fruity aroma. Easy to drink, perfect for a summer day out.

2.7 Poured from can. Smells a bit sour when opened. Pale, cloudy yellow. Mild hops, more than a typical pale lager. Just an okay beer.
3.9 quite the nice pilsner, 12 ounce CaN .. . gold yella .. good foam, lacing is awesome .. light corn, cereal, dried leaves .. mouth and finish are on point .. medium crispness .. a solid example of the style, well balanced .. .. . no one wants your moth eatin clothes grandma!
3.4 On tap at VCBW Festival 2016, pours a clear pale yellow with a large white head. Aroma is very herbaceous, with lots of grassiness, herbal hops and crisp crackery notes. Flavour is along the same lines, with lots of herbaceousness upfront, followed by grassy hops and crisp biscuity malt. Quite a lot of depth for a lager. Very nice stuff.
3.5 Solid lager, quite leafy, but really nothing to give it an edge. Lot better Lagers out there.
3.3 Can from Acton Wine and Spirits. Pours a slightly hazy deep yellow color with a smallish bubbly white head that dissipates quickly. Citrus earthy mineral spicy aromas and little else on the nose. Citrus and orange fruitiness in the flavor, lightly herbal or earthy . Faint bready maltiness, lingering hop bitterness. Somewhat reminds me of Tang at times. Different take on a lager interesting, but not enough for me to buy again.
2.3 Bottle pour from Andover Liquors. Aroma is floral hops over European malt base. Appearance is very pale yellow with greenish tinge (sort of urine-like) with trace sparkle, 1/2 finger-width fleeting white head with fair lacing. Taste is traditional pilsner malty sweetness with fruity hops, but both are mild. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with thin texture and average to lively carbonation and crisp finish. Overall, a decent enough idea with hints of what it could be, but is pretty pedestrian.
2.8 Canned at Tin Can. Nothing special. Tad hoppier than your average lager. Not sure if have it again.
2.7 Can. Medium gold, average white head. Grainy aroma, faint fruity undertones. The palate reflects the nose exactly. Moderately bitter finish. Underwhelming considering its name.
2.9 12oz can. Pours a pale yellow with a thick white head. Watery, grassy and bland. Not offensive but not all that good either. Meh.
2.6 Crystal blonde, well-carbonated, and with a decent, creamy wheaty head. Leafy hoppy with some greenness to it and light, fresh-milled grain nose. Watery grain body with muted hoppyness and some green notes. Sourdough and mild tannin grain finish.
3.8 12 oz can. Aroma is bready, chalky candy, earthy hops, minerally. Pours hazy golden with a thick white pillowy head with good retention; leaves some creative lacework. Taste has a nice medium-level bitterness alongside a mild fruity sweetness (kind of cantaloupe-like) with flavors of wheat cracker, light hay. Nice American-style pils.
3.0 355ml can. Pale straw yellow with a small creamy white cap. Nose has straw, grains, bit of fruit. Taste has grains and straw, citrus and some fruitiness. Grassy aftertaste with light hops hanging around. Drinks alright.
3.1 355ml can pours a pale straw color with a finger of white head that settles down to some spotty lacing. Aroma is grassy with some light fruits and a herbal note. Taste is a grassy hop bitterness with a light fruity and malty sweetness finishing with some herbs. Light bodied with decent carbonation. Overall, an interesting brew for the style, full flavored and respectable.
3.5 355 ml can as “Epic Hop Syndrome Pils Lager” bought at HK Brewcraft in Central. Looks: Translucent pale golden colour; Less than one-quarter finger head with residual soapy white foam which fades in 15 seconds; Fair sticky lacing and barely notable slight carbonation. Aroma: Very fragrant Pils malt, with strong floral, fresh grapefruits, strong melon, pear cider, strong molasses, candy, light biscuits, yeast and light grass. Taste: Mid to light sweet moderate Pils malt, with grapefruits, floral, honey, molasses, cinnamon, lemon, strong bitter hops and sharp grass. Body: Mid to light body. Slick palate. Mouth Feel: Moderate Pils maltyness in a solid thick background. The fresh grapefruit araoma carry onto the taste, very citrusy and lemony plus fairly good cinnamon and woody spices. Touch of honey and sweetness. Light but joyful! Hoppiness: Impressive aroma with strong Lemondrop influence as in strong melon and hard candy. Calypso’s pear cider nose also came through, not to mention fresh grapefruits. Taste is grapefruits plus Crystal’s cinnamon and spice; Bitterness is notably strong for a lasting, high astringent citrus-spicy finish. After Taste: Quite dry. Fruity and hoppy to mouth. Comments: With or without the “Pils” alias or not, this is a compact yet seriously hoppy Lager - excellent aroma of hard candy, melon, citrus and pears, Solid hoppy taste in grapefruit and cinnamon. A bit thin in the end but that match a tight 4.5% Pilsner. If all Lagers are made like this, I just can’t get enough. Yes!
3.6 Hazy pale yellow, minimal head, with a pungent floral and citric aroma. Taste is medium bitter, gets the lager malts and tasty hops that gives it a dry balance. Hints of citrus. Very nice lager, as every lager should be. Shame on macro corn lagers!
3.6 Where and how: tasting, can 355ml Aroma medium plus intensity, floral citrus, softer follow-up. Nice malt base. Soft golden creating solid back up. Appearance : Top: smallish, snow-white, lasting with some lace on glass. Base: pale gold, clear Palate : medium thinner body, smooth and easy going, delicate. Taste: balanced in approach. Leafy, grassy, herbal hop combination with sweet golden malt backbone. other notes nice refreshing new-wave lager. Helles with American hops? Why not!
2.9 Pale, straw and bright, with a medium head. Light body, saazy taste with clean, slightly doughy pale malts. A little too timid on the hop for a body this light...it invites Bitburger comparisons and doesn’t live up.
3.7 Aroma is hops/hop resin, light tropical fruit and lager yeast. The flavor is hops/mild hop resin, tropical fruit, malts and a medium bitter finish.
3.0 12 oz can pours clear yellow with a white head. Fruity aroma, maybe some pears, and the usual sharpness of a pils. Definitely happier than your average pils which is quite nice. Light, fruity, and clean.
3.4 Can: Pours almost clear, yellow-gold with a frothy white head. Grain, citrus aroma. Slight pils-like taste....mild grainy bittering, barley malt, grass... Pretty nice.
3.6 A good lager hopped up a bit, but not overly bitter good flavor easy to drink smooth no hoppy after taste
3.0 Can at Craftissimo opening. Aroma is slightly hoppy pils. Taste the same. Very crisp but tastes like Tsingtao with hops added. Fine but not worth it. Luckily this can was free.
3.8 12 oz can- Pours slightly hazy light golden with a frothy white head. Aroma is clean malts, peppery spicy hops, grass, no flaws. The taste is smooth, nice and citrusy, lemon, quality grains, light malt, spicy hops, dry finish. Easy drinking slightly hopped up pils, very good.
3.3 Pours really light with a good head. At first the citrus taste is overpowering, but after letting it settle, it is a really good lager.
3.2 12 oz can into a pilsner glass. Can info: PACK ID DEN 2330 No idea when it was brewed and unable to find info. A: Slightly hazy medium gold color. Minimal head with sparse lacing. S: Pilsner malt biscuit/cracker smell. Light hops barely noticeable. Nice smell overall. T: Sharp crispness of cracker malts hit with a light herbal hop note blending in nicely if subtly. Simple taste but very nice and refreshing. Not as hoppy as I expected. It’s no Prima but pretty good. M: Light body, average carbonation and a slight oiliness. Foam has a nice refined feel. O: This wont revolutionize anything but it is good enough to warrant a purchase or two. I wish Epic would make up their minds what they want to call this. Points taken for shitty job of date coding.
3.3 Golden pour from draft at uncle mikes. White head. Some fruits and hops, pretty average, easy chugging. Thought it was gonna be a session IPA but definatley not
3.2 Can - definitely more Pilsner leaning than ipl. Clean and crisp, with moderate spicy hops and a hint of sweet fruit. Nothing too exciting, probably a one timer.
3.3 Six pack from HomeBrewStuff. Nice alternative to session IPAs and APAs. Light with mild hoppiness, clear golden with soft, foamy white head. Mostly lager characteristics in aroma and taste, with hop bitterness at the tail end. Perfect summer brew.
3.0 Can->lager. Pale straw with small white head. Aroma and taste have lager yeast, grains, lite pine hops, citrus. Plain, at best.
3.5 Poured from a bottle. Clear yellow color, small white head. Slight musky aroma. Medium body with a light crisp slight hops flavor and a medium finish.
