This tawny-orange ale immediately assults the senses with the character of hops from the Pacific Northwest. An aroma that combines grapefruit pith and pine resin foreshadows a strongly bitter beer. The flavor is spicy and juicy with citrus dominating over honey and floral notes, then giving way to a dry, chalky bitterness. The almost sweet finish is accentuated by the strength of the alcohol.

3.722 oz. bottle, shared by Albert. Release #49, 9.6% ABV. Light yellow pour, with a small, off-white head. The nose is resin, butterscotch, strong floral notes, and basil. Sweet flavor up front, with a mild and very easy bitterness through the finish. Medium body, creamy, lightly bubbly, and easy. This is a straightforward IPA, but wonderfully aromatic. Showcases hoppiness in an unusual way, subtly and elegantly.
4.3Bottle from Belmont Station, Portland; release #42, 9.9% ABV
Hazy dark blond color with generous compact head. Strong aroma: orange peel, hop resins, hints of mango, earthy too. Full bodied, fairly sweet but not cloying; the paler color of malt does a good job, no caramel stickiness; the strong hopping blends in very well, carrying loads of quality, sweet oranges and a bit of mango overall, with some grapefruit pungency in the final.
Excellent.
2.9A bit yeasty, even on the first pour. May try this again. ---Rated via BeerBuddy for iPhone.
3.4Release #34 - Pours a medium gold with a thin white head. Aroma, the best I can describe is a floral, resiny spicy smell. Its a different smell and the taste follows the smell and is hard for me to describe.
4.0Clear golden colour, white head. Aroma of hops, tropical fruits, passion fruit and resin. Bitter hoppy flavour, grapefruit and citrus. Bitter finish, hops and pineapple. Nice.
(from 66cL bottle @ ZZT XII, ’Getting Joes’d to it’, Oirschot. Thanks for sharing, Benzai!)
4.0Thanks! to Benzai. 650 ml. bottle sampled @ ZZT XIII. Clear orange, little white head. Nose is huge herbal orange peel, hop oil. Taste is herbal & pine resin oil, very oily, light fruit. Average body. Decent, touch too herbal. Not exemplary but solid for sure.
4.5Bottle @ ZZT XII. Clear orange golden color, medium sized white to off-white head. Aroma is malts, superb hops. Taste malts, hops, resin, pine, more hops, sticky hops and sticky hop bitter. Medium to full body, medium carbonation. Fantastic imperial IPA! Spot on!
4.2Bottle @ ZZT12. Slightly hazy yellow to orange colour with a small white head. Smells hops, fresh, fruity. Tastes hops, fruity, fresh, quite nice. Full body, soft carbo.
3.3Upfront taste of honey and citrus with a clean finish. Not overly hoppy or bitter. An off-season option for hopslam like flavor.
3.5Bottle at the brewery. Pours clear amber with a fizzy white head. Tastes like caramel, strong hop resin, light grapefruit, light nutty malt. Light body and low carbonation. Smells like hop resin, caramel, and light grapefruit.

3.4Release #25 - 1 of 1800 bottles
Aroma - very orangy, tropical
Appearance - Hazy golden pour.
Taste - Very tropical. The taste follows the aroma almost exact. If this beer were to age too long, I don’t think I would like it as much, but this is pretty good.
Palate - Huge mouth feel. Coats the entire tongue. Not a lot of bitterness, but solid.
Overall - as long as it is fresh, I would seek this beer again.
3.9Bottle @ home. Aroma is big hops and malt, fruity, piney and citrussy. Flavour is caramel malt, quickly overtaken by huge amounts of hops. Very nice.
4.0Taster at the brewery. Pours a clear amber color. Aroma is piney hops, caramel. Taste is hoppy, pine, resinous, solid bitterness. Caramel sweetness brings a good balance. Palate is balanced, medium body, medium carbonation. Very good.
3.2Bottle, release 36. Pours a lambent gold with a high, coarse-grained, off-white head. Nose is surprisingly subtle -- mostly floral (lavender) with herbal and lime notes. Massive bitterness up front with a very slight soapy overtone; prickly on the tongue, and the hops bitterness never really lets up. Some orange and toffee malt notes, but they’re hard to pick out. That soapy note mars the balance. Great mouthfeel. Good, but not great.
3.8Release 37 (bottled mid April). Pours a hazy, dark gold going toward amber with a fair cream colored cap that settles pretty quickly to a thin ring with some larger bubbles, leaving plenty of spotty, soapy lace. Nose involves plenty of sweet toasted barley, some floral notes, light pine, tropical and stone fruit, some spice. Quite sweet, decently bitter. Full bodied, pretty oily, fair action, slippery, with a lengthy herbal bitter finish. As constituted, pretty good, drinking like a blonde barleywine. Not that it hasn’t held up well, because it has, but I just get the feeling that, at pushing 6 months old, this had to be more vibrant when it was younger.
4.1A full bodied IPA with tons of dank hops in both the nose and in the mouth.
4.1"release #14 - good stuff! dark dank aroma slightly reminiscent of Avery Maharaja. Full flavored and full bodied, thick and chewy, bittersweet citrus and pine. "
4.022 oz Bomber. Tasted on 9/23/14. Bottle from Total Wine Lewisville, TX. The beer has a strong pine & some citrus hop aroma. The flavor is also piney with a medium citrus to it. It also has a nice dry finish for a 9.8 ABV. Overall a very nice DIPA.
4.2Bottle from Total Wine, Summerlin. Hazy yellow pour white head. Aroma is very fruity, resin, pine, citrus and floral hops. Flavor is quite bitter and very fruity. Very smooth and with a thick body. Lovely IPA.
4.1All those yearly release stats are very cute. Its a copper beer with a spotty white lace. The atoma is bitter and has traces of orange rind. The flavor is bitter and has traces of tangerine pulp and pine. On the whole its mellow, easily palateable and delicious. Cheers to the fourth tastebud group!
3.4A good hoppiness, though covered by a strong level of booze. Still pretty drinkable. Good head.
3.922 oz bottle. Golden with a good sized off-white head. Aroma is of dank hops, pineapple, mango, pine, and light grass. Tasters of pine, resin, dank tops, some citrus, caramel, and booze with a sticky mouth feel.
3.7Bottle. The look is an off white head, copper orange, hazy. The smell is hops, pine, alcohol, fruit, caramel. The taste is the same.
3.7Bottle from Hazel’s beverage world. Hazy copper color, white head. Bitter taste with grapefruit, resin, hops, pine, mango and a bit of peach. Bitter finish with grapefruit, resin, hops and mango. Excellent imperial IPA.
3.9Aroma of lots of pine, some grapefruit. Taste is grapefruit, piney, lots of caramel malt that leads into a nice finish of alcohol warming. A great DIPA!
3.822 oz. bottle. It ours a bright orange color with a dense white head. The aroma has oranges and pine with a little spice and florals. The flavor has more oranges with a touch of tropical fruit and a super piney bitter finish. Maltiness is subdued with maybe a touch of honey on the palate, although the mouthfeel is pretty full and oily. Very good stuff.
4.1Bomber. Pours a golden/orange color. A good layer of white foam leaves some nice rings of lacing all the way down the glass. Aromas of grapefruit, tangerine, pine, and caramel malt. Taste is sweet caramel, pine, spice, and some citrus. Medium bodied with a fruity, resinous hop finish. Nice, even if a little sweet.
