Epic Mayhem

Epic Mayhem

We have set out to wilfully maim and cripple the palates of the most extreme hop head. This act of wanton destruction is in the true spirit of what festive brews are about, to create something unique and fun. It is our intention to create a violent and needless disturbance in your olfactory senses. The riotous confusion, from the unnatural quantity of dry hopping, will leave your palate satisfyingly violated after having just one taste. Only the brave can be assured to tame this hop insanity.

3.9 Keg@the Malthouse, Wellington 7/1/13 Mid-amber with slight white head and hop hazy with a resinous pithy nose, clean hop profile and bite with balancing malt and a long resinous finish. Epic seem to be the Kernel of the southern hemisphere
4.0 It's like drinking toast! Amazing toasty red malt flavours dominate with big but balanced hop profile and body. Epic are uncannily genius.
3.5 18th August 2011 Clear bright amber beer, good size off white fluffy head. Crispy palate. minerals. A little creamy malt. Mildly bitter tangerine - orange giving way to sweeter tangerine and then quite a bitter minerally finish. Nice but could do with more intensity.
3.7 Striking colour- bright orange with good foam. Smells great, some stonefruit sweetness.. there’s hops up front and on the back palate- lovely lingering finish goes on. Flavours were dominated by grass/spruce for me. Great beer, if somewhat underwhelming
3.8 Pours a three-finger off-white head that fades very slowly to a thin layer leaving a good lace. Crystal clear amber/copper color. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Resin/bready nose. Flavor is malty, bready, some caramel like an IPA without the hops. $8.92 for a 500ml bottle from Tully’s Beer & Wine Wells, ME.
3.7 Love the hop aroma, Burst of tropical fruits, passionfruit, grapefruit, resin, and pineapple. Colour is amber with a medium head, lacing. Flavour is bitter, fruity, but a little short. Mouthfeel is good. T: enjoyable.
3.0 The grassy hoppy aroma doesn’t seem to hang around, and I get some malty richness. There is tangy on the tongue, but it seems "thin" and transient, ambivalent. Not exactly mayhem or an ambush, and unlike the Cilla Black song there is "nothing there to remind me".
3.0 Deep golden pour with a small off-white head leaving a decent amount of lacings. aroma is floral english hops and taste is mellow hoppy and caramel. could have benefitted from abit more carbonation, but all in all a decent IPA.
3.4 Bottle, shared with BBGTC. Deep clear coppery orange body, small white head. Aroma is grass, licorice, peaches, hints of parsley mango and herbs. Taste is mild peachy grass tones, licorice, herbs and hints of water melon and wet leaves. The load of crystal/caramel malts is present and could have been reduced IMO. A bit low on carbonation, but smooth and nice mouthfeel. A good IPA all in all, but maybe a bit straightforward. Not so Epic, in other words.
3.2 pours a semi-hazy amber-orange with a medium size beige head, and great lacing. smell is of a little citrus, caramel, and some spice. taste is of grain, caramel, malt, some citrus, and a little spice. ends a little dry, and somewhat bitter.
3.5 Bärnstensfärgad. Kraftig humledoft. Humlen medföljer även i smak och möter en balanserad maltsötma. Inte direkt en kioskvältare men klart godkänd
3.6 0.5l bottle @ BrewDog, Camden. This is a clear caramel-colored one with a nice medium sized light bubbly and heavy lacing off-white head. On the aroma it’s light malty and sweet with hints of fruits and red berries. Smells not extreme, but quite nice. It’s a bit thin in texture, and it’s average carbonated. The flavor is light caramelly - some burned caramel as well and I get a nice hoppy-bitter flavor. Not extreme or anything, but quite tasty. A bit strawberry-sticky towards the finish perhaps? Almost so much that it could have been a barley wine. Tasty indeed. 22.07.2012
4.1 A - Pours a clear amber-orange with a finger of frothy white head. The head fades down at a normal pace leaving behind some nice lacing. S - Aroma is a mix of grapefruit, tropical, citrus, and floral hops with some sweet caramel malts. T - Starts off with a mix of grapefruit and other tropical hops, some bitterness, and some sweet caramel malts. Through the middle, some floral and piney hops come through with some more bitterness and some bready malts. The finish is a mix of pineapple, grapefruit, and pine hops with some sweet bready malts. M - Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a dry and bitter finish. D - Very drinkable. Good hop and malt balance with some good bitterness and body for overall balance.
3.9 Bottle from Brewdog online shop. Pours clear dark golden with a big creamy beige head. Aroma of pine and grapefruit. Taste is moderate sweet and bodied, with an easy smooth mouthfeel. Fruity hops take over towards the end, moderate bitter tropical fruity hops initially, end is stronger bitter, with a good hoppy bite at the finish, lingering aftertaste. Very good.
3.9 Pours clear amber with a medium head. Aroma is malts and plenty of fruits. Flavor is malts, some fruits and lots of hops. Pretty good for a hophead.
3.9 Botella de 500ml. Vaso Tumbler. Saboreada en may´12. Color ambar profundo y apariencia cristalina. Retrogusto resinoso. Refrescante y de buena asimilación. 500ml bottle. Tumbler glass. Enjoyed on may´12. Deep amber color, crystal clear appearance. Off-white, creamy froth. Lasting & spotty head. Flowers, yeast & mildy malts to the nose. Gentle maltiness at first sip followed by dry bitter hoppiness. Medium body, moderate carbonation. Some astringency & quince notes into the finish. Resiny aftertaste. Refreshing & nice drinkability.
3.6 Pour is deep amber with big beige head. Aroma is a pleasant pine hoppiness. Flavour is initially hints of apricot and some breadiness before the hops come in and do their business coating the palate with resinous hops. Finish is quite long and enjoyable. Top stuff!!
3.5 500ml bottle pours a pale amber orange color with a finger of creamy white head that retains well and leaves some soapy lacing on the glass. Aroma is pine and citrus with some light fruits and grains. Taste is bold pine and citrus hop bitterness up front balanced nicely with an underlying malty sweetness. Medium bodied with some good carbonation leaving a nice feeling on the tongue. A pleasing and bold india pale ale that is recommended for a tasting.
3.4 Bottle from Brewdog shop. Amber color, small white head. Taste: caramel, citrus, hops and herbs, nice bitter finish. Very enjoyable beer.
2.9 Pours a clear and bubbly orange. Nice lacing on the glass. Very sweet on the nose. Methinks some of the hop bite got lost in transport. But if you are in a non west coast hop mode this would really work. Really sticks to the palate without scraping it to death. Getting some orange taste at the very end.
3.8 500ml Bottle (from Brewdod.com): Lots of bitterness upfront along with a sweet pine and strong hops smell. There is also a little vanilla and dark malts but the hops dominate along with a general bittersweet aroma. Clear amber & a foamy, centimetre thick and foamy white head with good retention. Hops and pine kick things off here, along with some piney bitterness and a good malt presence. There is a little citrus and some summer fruits along with a lingering bitterness. Light in body and as mentioned before there is tonnes of hops in this one. The feel is a semi-smooth one with medium carbonation and a lingering bitter finish. Very hoppy and quite like an IPA is a some nice pine hops and a few malts thrown in for good measure as well. The taste is surprisingly refreshing and nicer than I had imagined. 1001 Beers To Try Before You Die:
3.2 en botella.color dorado cobre.cristalina.aromas a malta, medio floral notas a lupulo.sabor parecido aunque no estaba en muy buenas condiciones, un largo viaje supongo,
3.5 En botella,color ambar muy bien filtrada,aromas a caramelo,maltas y lúpulo moderado.Muy facil de beber,espero algun dia probarla mas fresca q hoy.
3.5 Lite tunn kropp men med en bra balans. Smaken är fruktig och humlig men lite för försiktig för mig.
3.2 Bottle 50cl. A clear orange colour with a small, off-white head. An aroma of malt, caramel, toast, hops and citrus. The taste is medium sweet and light bitter. A medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation and a medium long duration.
3.8 (Bottle) Amber colour with frothy beige head, leaving traces of lacing. Fruity, hoppy nose with apricots, orange, tea and fresh floral hops. Fruity, hoppy taste with notes of orange peel, dried apricots, hints of tea and resin, floral hops in the finish. Medium body, with just a touch of sweetness. Very aromatic hop character, with a well balanced bitterness. Very nice beer.
3.4 Bottle pours clear amber with a small white head. Citrus and pine hop aroma and flavor with just a hint of caramel malt sweetness.
3.3 Pale amber with a small white head. Fruity with hoppy tones. Malt, bitterness and fruit ( grapefruit ? ) Medium body with afresh, bitter finish.
3.8 Not sure what qualifies this as an American strong ale, clearly a pale ale. Pours amber orange, no head. Huge hop aroma, citrus, soap, pine, resin, caramel malt. Taste is similar, quite a unique hop flavour, grassy, piney, resin, lots of caramel malt. Quite sweet with a slightly bitter finish, lingering sweetness. Very good
3.5 Bottle 50 cl tasted @ Karhisma Birroteca (Piedimonte Matese - Caserta, Italy). Clear orange/rust with just a finger of foam that vanishes immediatly. Citrus and piny aroma, leaf and something concerning a young orange when it’s green still. Some chemical notes like solvent. Light to medium fully carbonated body, and the flavor it’s like the young orange as above-mentioned as well. Carbonation is high, man, nearly disturbing. Anyway, hoppiness it’s seriously a BLOW; I don’t know which kind of hops, but could bet it’s the Cascade due to the resinous component. Finish literaly draw mouth, tongue and palate like a vacuum cleaner. You know, it has the same bitterness that of Stone or other West Coast IPA; the only pity - surely not minor - is the body, so weak. Malts vanishes in front of the hop, and that’s no good at all. Aroma has the same fault, it’s overwhelmed by hop. Too bad, it has a remarkable potential.
