Epic Pale Ale

Epic Pale Ale

You can only drink so many beers in a lifetime, so you better make each one count. That’s where we can help. Because at Epic we’re obsessed with creating big hop-fuelled beers. This takes a shed-load of skill. It also takes a shed-load of hops. In fact there are 15 crammed into this bottle. Many brewers would call that insane. We call it flavour.

3.8 Poured from bottle. Answer in color with a large head. Slight fruity aroma and purely hoppy taste resembling cardboard
3.3 resiny and hoppy despite the fact that I don’t think this is very fresh. Seems older than the ipa and lager with hints of cardboard. Still pretty good, which keeps me curious...
3.8 330ml bottle from Valhalla’s Goat. Clear orange brown, reasonable head. Resin pine hop aroma. Hoppy resin malt flavour. Bitter hoppy citrus aftertaste. Bitter hoppy aftertaste. Solid pale ale.
3.5 Draught @ Beer Deluxe, Melbourne Pale copper beer, creamy white head. Hoppy nose; melon, papaya, citrus, nice touch of light caramel biscuity malt. Med-full body, moderate carbonation, some sticky resiny texture there. Plenty to enjoy here - tropical fruity, fragrant hops, backed up by biscuity toasty malts. Bitterness somewhat restrained, hops seem to accentuate malt sweetness. What you would come to expect from a good NZPA - good stuff!
3.9 Light bodied example of an excellent pale ale. Citrus and spice forward floral hoppiness that opens into a moderately bitter palate. A great example. Highly recommend, this is the beer that got me into craft beer.
3.6 On keg at the Bow Bar. Appearance - not particularly pale. More a deep amber. Decent head. Nose - a bit elusive. Citrus and pine. Resin. Dried fruits. Taste - toffee and red fruits. Definitely raisins on the end. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy yet tangy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - tastes stronger and more complex than the ABV. It’s hard to put this in the pale ale category.
3.2 A nice session able American Pale Ale. Nothing leaping out but overall good quality. A balanced beer and very enjoyable.
3.8 It was a big hoppy drop, a touch too much hop component for me (15 different varieties is a lot of flavour to deal with) it was good, but a bit unwieldy.
4.5 Tropical fruits and floral notes, some spiciness and hints of grapefruit. There’s another flavour I can’t pin down - apricot, maybe? This is so very different from any beer I’ve ever tried. Real nice balance, with the malt backbone just there to compliment all those hops. World class pale ale.
3.6 28.2.2015. Pale amber, clear. Floral aroma with slight pine, pineapple, slight toffee. Aromatic flavour with grassy and floral notes, decent malts and hops, slight toffee but not sweet. Solid.
4.1 I know, I know, I’m a hop bore. I don?t care, hops are delicious... and this is a mighty hoppy beer. Nom
3.7 I tried this a year ago on tap and it rocked my world. Now it is merely a very good beer. The first aroma is hoppy goodness, but it faded a bit to become a malt-dominant beer. Lashings of caramel and a balanced bitterness that fades like a girlfriend who moved away and you never quite got around to breaking up with. I’ll try this beer again tomorrow, as I have a 4 pack, but I doubt I’ll be chasing this girl around the world. 2nd bottle a few days later was better aroma - I think it was a few degrees warmer this time, so don’t over chill it
3.7 this poured golden brown with a fluffy head lingering laciness & a fine aroma of hops the taste is smooth yet bitter bit spicy caramel malty & full of hops
4.1 Deep, clear copper, small off-white head. Malty aroma with hints of dried fruit. Flavours of tropical fruit, apricot, pine, marmalade. Medium bodied, moderate to high carbonation. Lovely.
3.7 330ml bottle, pours clear amber. Toasted caramel malt with heavy pine and sharp citrus zing. Body is light, finish is crisp and bitter. Nice and hoppy Pale.
3.7 Bottle from Drinkmonger. Clear amber body with a thin off-white head. Steady carbonation. Light lacing. Aroma of herbs, fresh hops and kiwi fruit. Flavour of lemon, pithy orange and tonic water. Thin body with an oily texture. Soft fizz. Crisp and hoppy.
3.6 3rd March 2015 Bright clear amber beer, decent pale cream colour head. Palate is light and semi dry and mildly crisp. The pale malts are clean and present a little sweetness. Hops are light pine with traces of lime and mild marmalade. Little hop spice. Semi dry finish. Clean and pretty drinkable.
3.5 Bottle. Hop Hideout, Sheffield. Clear amber. Thin, bubbly, off white head. Nice, fusty orange hop. Sweet, toffee malts. Hint of spice. Hint of blackcurrant. Taste is soft sweet. Lightly spicy dry. Chewy, zesty bitter. Decent body. A bit too much fizz. Finishes long bitter, and a bit of spicy dryness. Easy drinking.
3.4 330ml bottle, BB Oct 2015, 5.4%. Clear dark orange / brown, a few bubbles, small foamy off-white head, decent lacing. Aroma is orange, rosewater, soft pine. Body is medium to light, pretty foamy, tingly carbonation. Taste is flowers, soft toffee malts, some elderflower, tangy crisp finish. Middling pale ale.
3.9 Bottle from stirchley wines. Copper beer with small head. Aroma of grapefruit and pineapple with malts. Taste is grapefruit, some citrus and hops. Very good.
3.8 Bottle shared with SarkyNorthener cheers Martin; clear light copper and a thin off white head, assertive hop aroma, taste has light caramel, some tangerine a hint of pine, citrus, pale malts, light bitter finish.

3.4 Keg at spitfire. Pours clear amber, nose is pineapple, toffee, taste is dry, sweet toffee.
3.7 On tap at O’Riley & Conways, pours a clear dark amber orange with a thick white head, the aroma has a pretty good amount of citrus and fruit with a nice malt touch as well, the flavor has a nice citrus front end with some hops and fruit in the finish as well, balanced, good stuff.
3.8 330ml bottle at Shawty’s Cafe, Twizel. Pours clear brownish amber with a large head that quickly dies and leaves a beautiful residual foam. Underwhelming nose compared to the great taste.
3.7 Pours an orange colour with an off-white head. Aroma is malt, fruit, citrus and hops. Taste is medium sweet leading to a big hoppy finish.
3.3 Keg at craft beer calling.. Soft sweet floral fruit.... Soft sweet fruits.. Soft hop.... Juicy fruits as American pale ale
3.2 I’d been avoiding this beer, until of course it won a medal in a recent beer awards thing, at which point I thought I was being contrary and picky. Turns out not so much. Although this has a lovely hop aroma and a great colour it is a bit thin and really needs some food to bolster and prop it up. In its favour it is easy drinking and the aroma and bite are always welcome. Finishes towards dry.
4.2 bottle new world cromwell. muted nose but dirty rusty orange. good colour. decent full bodied palate with refreshing hops and a little bit of citric acid twang and nice and dry on the finish, has good weight and flavour for 5.4% which i think we ALL like . only 6 bucks a bottle so a good regular of mine
