Epic Spiral Jetty IPA

Epic Spiral Jetty IPA

Spiral Jetty India Pale Ale is the launching point in our series of hoppy IPA brews. Spiral Jetty IPA has an aggressive hop profile (five different hops used here with two in the dry hop) presenting citrus, floral, resinous or pine aromas and flavors typical of American hops and a nice pleasant, cleansing bitterness on the finish. The dominance of the hops helps to balance the complex malt flavors and the higher alcohol content. Spiral Jetty is our strongest Classic Series ale at 6.6% alcohol by volume, but certainly not our strongest beer.

3.3 Bottle. Pours golden yellow with a frothy white head. Aroma of pine, citrus, caramel and floral hops. Flavor of pale malts, pine, caramel, grass and grapefruit.
3.2 22oz bottle. Hazy golden color with one finger head. More of a wheat aroma. Taste is also like wheat and a little pine. Not like a typical IPA.
3.3 Golden color with a nice frothy head, off-white coloured. Aroma is very fruity, aminly peaches are present, some citrus hints and resins. Flavor is mild caramelish, good maltiness slightly bittery. Smootha nd light creamy on palate with a mild bitterness.
3.4 Piney, citrus hops are very balanced and smooth. One of the more balanced ipas and not overpowering. Great bouquet of hop aroma.
3.5 Bottle from Utah liquor store park city. Pours orange with a half inch of foam. Leaves lots of lacing. A bit of floral on the nose. Slightly resinous on the tongue. Has some solid hop bitterness on the finish. Solid but not spectacular.
3.1 "Reminiscent of a good English iPa. Not my first choice but this has redeeming qualities. There’s an ever so slight aroma and flavor of cedar in the background which is this beers saving grace. For all the hoopla of the different hops and double dry hopping, it’s very tame for an iPa, more like a pale ale. Good balance and a hint of fruit. Maybe hopper fresh-no bottle date. Bottle courtesy of Travis."
3.5 22oz bottle. decent IPA, perhaps a tad past fresh. grapefruit citrus, resiny, pine. good flavors, nice mouthfeel. malty backbone. decent
3.8 Bomber form Pace High Carryout. Hazy orange pour with a thin foamy white head. Aroma is pine, grapefruit, floral. Tastes are along that line - heavy on the grapefruit with grass, little wheat, caramel, little yeasty. Yeah, like this one.
3.4 Poured from a bomber with no drink by date. Aroma - Orange peel dominates the aroma, not my favorite. Other tropical fruits are coming thru, but after the orange. Appearance - Poured a finger’s worth of creamy eggshell color head. Cloudy golden color. Lots of bubbles coming up from the top. Taste - Definately lacks an IPA mouthfeel that I like. Too light, not enough mouthfeel. Plenty of carbonation - just doesn’t have what I am looking for. Palate - Iight/oil body feel...very thin. Overall - Glad I tried another Epic brewing beer, this one didn’t live up to the last one. OK beer, not great. Would need to seek it out again
3.3 Clear golden under a thin foamy white head. Nose is a bit piney and floral, with little else besides a little resinous bitterness. Flavor was the same; light pine, medium resinous bitterness, some leafy and floral hops, and a clean pale malt and kinda piney finish. Just ok.
3.3 Bottle. Amber beer with a nice cream head. Citrus and floral aroma. Citrus flavor with light pine and light floral notes. Medium bodied. Decent bitterness. Citrus and floral lingers.
3.5 Bright clear copper amber pour with decent near white head and some sticky lacing. nose of butterscotch and light citrus hops. Flavor is more floral, with a foresty/piney hoppiness and a citrusy twinge that leaves a clean green hop bitterness on the finish. pretty solid ipa.
3.5 Some time back we had a number of visitors staying with us. For fun, they took turns going out and picking up varieties of beer. I kept notes about what we thought about each, but can not find them anywhere. I did find a bag of empties from that time period, so thought I would at least record those w/o commet and ratings from memory. This is one of those. (When I do find the notes it will be interesting to see how close I came)
3.7 On cask @ Beachwood BBQ. Slightly hazed orange pour with some soapy white foam. A bit of caramel, lots of floral hops, and plenty of orange. Pretty heavy on the pine, a touch of tea, and some grapefruit peel. Good orange, grapefruit peel, and pine on the palate. A touch of malt sweetness and a nice bitterness on the finish. A bit of herbs and tea. Not bad.
3.2 Pours a clear golden yellow. Frothy white head. Lots of pice citrus and caramel on the nose. Flavor follows but is slightly tart. Nice beer.
3.5 Bottle. Rich yellow with spongy beige head, floral hops aroma, tastes a bit like lavender, very balanced, low carbonation, slight bitterness at the end, medium finish. A good IPA.
3.7 Bottle - Amber colour with frothy white head. Aroma of orange, hops, pine and sweet malt. Flavours are nice bitter hops, pine, orange, good bitter finish. Medium body, slightly oily mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Nice stuff.

3.5 3.99 bottle from Wine Warehouse, CHO. Pours cloudy golden amber with a large frothy off-white head. Smells of grapefruit and pine. Tastes of grapefruit, pine, passionfruit, and orange rind.
3.3 Bottle at the first Kinki Beer Tasting. It pours a light cloudy honey gold with a muscat, herbal/floral hop aroma. The flavor is mostly bitter pine. It’s a solid IPA with a dry finish though not so complex.
1.6 Bottle thanks to pussypete, I guess. Pours a slightly hazed orange (light pinkish when held up to the light) color with a white head that fades into a ring. Aromas of some watery indistinct melons or some shit. Pretty flaccid. Mouthfeel is also flaccid, like a penus that refuses to get erect no matter how hard the fluffer (@@ron) tries. Fuck you. This beer sucks. Pretty sure this is at least a year old.
3.5 Bottle at Den Tatoverede Enke, København, july 18th 2013. Hazy orange body with a staying medium white head. Looks really nice. Light citrus aroma with grain and pine, taste is stronger, with oranges and pineapple, nicely balanced caramel. Long bitterness, with a bit grassy finish.
3.6 Bottle shared thanks to iphonephan. Pours hazy golden with an off white head. Aroma of citrus, grass, grapefruit, caramel. Flavour is light to moderate sweet and over moderate bitter. Medium bodied with light carbonation.
3.3 From a 22 oz bottle shared at home. Pours a clear copper with an off white head. Citrus hop nose. Grassy flavors. Bitter finish.
3.9 Cloudy pale color, good hop aroma, taste a little weak. Good beer but far from Epic’s best.
3.2 Medium offwhite head. Clear amber body. Earthy citric spicy aroma with funky. Dry-sweet earthy resiny spicy taste with citric notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dryish earthy funky resiny aftertaste with spicy toffee and caramel notes. Nice, drinkable, pretty good. (0.65l bottle, from Kihoskh, Copenhagen.)
