Evil Twin / Crooked Stave Ryan and the Gosling

Evil Twin / Crooked Stave Ryan and the Gosling

Hey girl - just listening to you talk about how the CMY-1, CMY-5, and CMY-7 Brettanomyces yeast, along with the Pale 2-row, Munich II, Oats, Wheat, and Honey malts, together with citrus peel and juice added at KO, followed by fresh zest with balanced citrusy hop characteristics at whirlpool - makes me wanna drink this beer just for you. An all-Brett pale ale brewed with citrus peel and with citrus juice added.

3.5 Aroma is clove, lemon grass and straw. Taste is sweet malts and bittering hops. Well balanced overall. Wild barnyard character. Appearance is a hazy gold with a thin pearl head that retains fairly well.
3.3 650ml bottle pours a hazy pale golden color with a finger and a half of white head that retains well and leaves some spotted lacing on the glass. Aroma is orange zest with some fruits and yeasty notes. Taste is a lemon tartness with the orange zest and a fruity and malty sweetness and a citrus hop bitterness. Light bodied with good carbonation. Overall, this is quite a sour ale, but well balanced and tasty.
3.6 Draft at Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2014 - Session 2. Pours hazy, pale yellow-gold with a creamy, white head. Moderately funky in the aroma, with light poo, grass, melon and dried citrus. Pretty tasty, lightly sweet, with some citrus rind, cereal and poo. Light in body, with average carbonation. Finishes with light sweetness, some pithy and rindy citrus, mellow funk. Good one.
4.0 Nearly exploded from the bottle but then poured normally. Pours a medium gold. 2 finger white head. Lots of brettanomyces notes on the nose along with bright tangerine and orange zest. Taste is dominated by brett notes with undertones of citrus. The beer reminds me so much of sitting in Crooked Stave’s taproom. Finish is crisp and clean, leaving a tingly refreshing note on the tongue.
2.5 Tap@Wine Spot, Cleveland, USA. Light/medium aroma of slightly over aged currant and a hint of malts. Yellow color with small artificial head and clear liquid. Light/medium earthy unbalanced taste with moldy currants. Narrow taste spectrum and short aftertaste with some currants. Light body with medium/light carbonation. Overall, slightly earthy but low quality product.
3.5 Sample at the Evil Twin tasting at Crafted Drafts on 2/12/16. Pours clear amber with a medium white head. Aroma of tart fruit, slightly tropical with citrus and herbal notes. Malty flavor with funky brett before a spicy yeast finish.
3.6 Lots of Brett aroma and taste. Citrus additions didn’t come through for me. $16.99 was expensive IMO.
3.8 Bottle. Pours a relatively clear gold with a thin white head. Musk and lemon on the nose, a bit of orange pith. Medium-bodied, soft grain and wheat, a bit of musk and a hint of papery funk. Musk and citrus into the finish, very down played from what was on the nose. Not sure if I was supposed to get any acid, but if I was, it never showed. Soft bretty funk and yeast into the finish. Easy drinking, nice musky character.
3.8 Bottle sampled as part of the beer pairing at Luksus with Linh on November 27th, 2015. Pours a hazy golden body with thick white lacing. Nose is oak, brett, soft fruits and wood - almost reminds me of an older vintage of Jolly Pumpkin. Mouthfeel is medium and juicy with a soft tart character balancing out the sweetness; notes of peach, oak, wood, brett and soft spice.
3.9 Pours a hazy yellow golden with two fingers of white foam. Lots of citrus and grain with some layers of barnyard funk and vinous acidity. Backbone of wheat and a soft creamy mouthfeel add nuances of vanilla and sourdough bread into the mix. Tasty.
3.6 Aroma is moderately phenolic, with lemon notes coming through gently. Crystal clear straw colour. Light body, crisp and refreshing. Could be more carbonated. Overall a very interesting brett beer.
3.7 Clear golden pour with no head to note. Smell is light brett with some floral fruit. Flavor is a little thing with nice touch of brett.
3.6 Burnt orange appearance. Bright juicy with white wine aroma and no bitterness. Good dry mouthfeel. Lemon, orange, good thick kitjfeel. Nice Brett presence. I could drink a lot of this.
3.7 bottle. Hazy golden with one finger head. The Brett here is mild and adds some funk without really being tart. Hops are fairly citrusy with a medium bitterness. Good stuff, but probably not worth the pricetag.
3.5 I had this at Global Brew. Pours gold with a white head. Taste Brett, citrus, lemons. I thought this was good. I could drink this again.
3.5 4 oz pour on draft at Churchkey. Poured a golden color with a small foamy head. Aroma was light funky notes, light tartness, touch of earthy spice. Flavor was light funky. Light funky notes, hay, barnhouse. Light citrus.
2.7 Hazy golden color with a medium sized, white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of brett, toast, and citrus. Taste of toast, sweeter toffee malts, some citrus, lightly wild. Overall just too subtle all the way around. Leave it to evil twin to make a Crooked Stave beer suck.
3.3 Bottle. Hazy white gold. Yeast elements come and go throughout. Some hay, fruit, and herbal notes. Nothing special.
3.1 Bottle. Hazy gold with white head. Citrus and floral notes with a plasticy aftertaste. Medium mouthfeel. Ok.
4.1 Bomber poured a clear gold with a small lasting creamy white head. Aromas of straw, fruitiness, horse blanket and yeast. Palate was light bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of straw, horse blanket, earthiness, yeast and a hint of fruitiness with a smooth dry lingering funky finish.
3.8 22 ounce bottle This bottle had yet to go completely over to the brett side but the signs were there. While it would not age too terribly well I imagine it could be fun to sit on a bottle for a few months to see how it transforms. Depending if I can find a pre-aged bottled maybe I will do that myself. Aroma / Appearance - A carbonated golden body shines like the midday sun. Crisp vibrant white head surges and never collapses. Dry yeast, oranges, zest, and lemons tickle the senses. A light fruity champagne wafts upwards with ease. Flavor / Palate - Fluid and refreshing, the first impression leaves a mark on the memory. Lemon zest, orange peels, and a tickle of brett lend this a balanced mixture of fruit and champagne. Maybe it was the low key profile or maybe the low ABV but the bottle emptied more quickly than most.
4.0 KRS 11102014. Golden colour with an off-white head. Aroma is brett, fruit, peaches, orange. Flavour is dry, brett, malt, fruit, orange, peaches, citrus, cellar notes. Very nice beer.
3.6 Bottle..pour is golden with a bubbly head...Nose is funk, crooked stave brett, hay, spice..Taste is spice, crooked stave brett, fruit, dry, hay, funk..
3.4 (bottle - 22 oz) Cloudy gold pour with a fizzy white head. Dry aroma with a lot of grass and yeast and some earthy tartness underneath. Flavor is more dry and hoppy than sour, but there is some of that coming through near the finish. Could’ve used a bit more of it.
3.0 the description pretty much says it all. not much i can add to what is already there.
3.5 Bien bretté. Amère, goût d’orange et citron. On sent aussi un côté légèrement épicé et mentholé qui fait penser à du persil.
4.1 This beer pours a slightly hazy yellow color with a large white head that fades somewhat quickly. The aroma blends heavy Brett with lemon zest, wheat, and a hint of orange juice; the taste blends a mild sourness and mild sweetness, and the Brett flavors arise in the initial taste but linger through the entire finish. The palate fuses a light body, lively carbonation, and a slick texture.
3.7 Bottle from Wine Club. Pours crystal clear orange, medium creamy white head, dissipates slowly, nice lacing. Aroma is Brett forward, citrus, lemon, orange, lime. Flavor is dry, medium funk, Brett, light citrus zest, light bitter, basement must. Light body, medium carbonation.
3.7 Bomber from the Pary Source in Cincy/Kentucky. Yellow pour with a thin white head. Aroma of nice funky, tart, citrus, wheat. Tastes are grass, straw, citrusy fruits, light peppery spice, lemon zest, wet wood. Only light grainy tartness. I always like more sour in my sours, but if you stuck this in a six pack of cans it would be a killer beach beer.
3.9 Pale golden colour, white head. Aroma of citrus, malts, yeast, light banana. Fresh citrus flavour, malts, hops, very refreshing. Quite light bodied, citrus, barnyard. Nice and refreshing! (From draught @ CBC blue session, Copenhagen 2014)
